thanks for the replies. It's nice to know that Tom isn't the only baby/toddler who doesn't eat much.

Guess I will just go with the flow and hopefully when he is a bit older he will start to eat a a bit more

My DS is 8 months, and won't eat anything except Arrowroot biscuits (he sits at the table with us at dinner and eats one). And bm of course. He's above the 97th percentile for length and weight, so I know it's not affecting his growth. It's just frustrating, I had hoped he'd be on solids a little more by now.
We've tried baby led weaning, he'll put anything non-edible in his mouth, but if I give him a piece of pumpkin or apple shaped like a chip he'll try it, make a face, and it won't go anywhere near his mouth again.

DS is almost 14 months and barely eats anything either.
It does worry me from time to time, especially when you see what other children his age eat and when well meaning people keep pointing it out, but generally I just go with it. You can't force them to eat and as long as he's still getting plenty of breastmilk I'm sure he'll be fine.

M2ET, my niece was like this, just didn't really want to eat much, she stayed almost exclusively on the bottle for 9-11 mths, my sister never forced the issue and now at 19 mths she eats like a horse.

So I'd say just continue offering food but not forcing the issue and eventually it will just "click" and he will be off!

He has finger food as well as food on the spoon- have tried so many ways of giving him food but nothing is that successful. We started off BLW and now we do a mixture.

My DS was the same up until about 10 months. He LOVES boobie He started eating better around then, but it was nothing I did. I night weaned him to see if that helped, but it didn't make any difference.

I think just try to go with it (although it is hard!) and if he is happy and healthy, all is well. He won't b/f when he is 18

I also agree with myselfonline, try just giving him bits of food to eat. We did that, and although DS mostly played with it, eventually he would put things in his mouth. He now even eats off a spoon

Random question, and don't mean to be super condescending if you have already thought of it, but just noticed you said 'teaspoons' of food... what happens if you just give him a piece of toast, or crackers, or bits of cut up (or tinned) fruit? Will he just pick it up and eat it himself? I know my girl never really ate anything off a spoon (we did decide to do BLW, but I think we would have been forced to anyway!).

My DD was exactly the same and still can be at nearly 3. I totally understand the frustration
She was never into food until she weaned off the breast at 18 ish months and even then never ate loads.

She does eat quite well most days now although she has her moments but that's toddlers for you.

I know this isn't much help and I foud it hard to believe when I first heard it but if he is gaining and happy and settled the he is fine. He will eat one day You can't force the issue.

As long as he is being BF he will be sweet just make sure you keep up your fluid intake and eat really well. And make sure you are getting some rest I found it really tiring.

ETA my 14 month old DS is the same he has 5+ BF a day although he is getting more into food now that hasn't decreased his BF.

Tom is nearly 11 months and has absolutely no interested in food. He has never been interested in food and most days barely eats anything. I don't think he is fussy eater just not interested in food and doesn't seem to understand that when you are hungry food fills you up. He is still b/f and LOVES this millk. He will cry/grizzle if he is hungry but if I offer him food he will eat maybe 4-5 tsp and then refuse to eat anymore and grizzle until I give him a b/f. He has 3-4 b/f during the day and a couple of overnight (I am working on cutting him back as I am hoping this might help him eat more food during the day....but TBH I don't think it is going to help).

He is gaining weight well- tracking along the 50% pencile and has been since birth - so that isn't a problem, I am just concerned that he should be eating more food and its getting quite frustrating.

So my questions are. Has anyone got a baby/toddler who doesn't really eat? Did they eventually outgrew it? How do I get him to understand that food fills you up?
