How's that itchy breast going?

I don't know if this will help but before I got preggers I had an issue with my right breast twice in one year where it was always itchy, and sometimes dry, or if I put moisturiser on it, the skin was so aggravated it would burn! It could be anything from the soap you're using in the shower/bath, or the laundry powder you're using, to an infection.

For me I knew it wasn't the soap as I use a soap free body wash which I'd been using for years, and the same with the laundry powder. I went to the docs and she said it was an infection (similar to thrush) and said to use canisten on it for a couple weeks.

I've also read that it can be quite common for babies (newborns in particular) to get oral thrush, which can pass on to your breasts during BF, so it might pay to check with your doc and see if it's an infection and if so, what creams are safe to use while BF.

i had itchy nipples/breasts at the start of my pregnancy for a couple of months but now that has mostly stopped and my belly is itchy instead.. much less embarrassing for scratching in public !

I have really itchy nipples now. well actually is mostly just one nipple. I had people telling me left right and centre to soften up my nipples!

Anyway I also had itchy nipples too, I wasn't sure what caused it and was too embarrassed to ask the mw but I was also leaking a bit round the time it started happening and I think it may have just been the colostrum irritating my skin if that makes sense? Like leaking onto my bra and my nipples rubbing against it sorta thing. The old story about needing to toughen up your nipples before bf is a myth/old wives tale.The opposite is infact true -they need to be moist and soft as the nipple gets pulled and stretched a long way into the baby's mouth in the correct bf position when baby is latched well. If the natural oils that lubriate the nipple/areola are removed -by trying to toughen then up, there is more likely to have cracking/spliting and nipple damage when bf.

So if using olive oil or baby oil helps the itch, then do it!

I had super itchy nipples throughout both my pregnancies. And a good friend did too.

Hope this is not TMI, but wanted to know if anyone else has this, what to do about it, and do you think it's a MW thing or should I see my GP?

So, my right breast is itchy. Itchy, Itchy, ITCHY!!!! I mean the areola and to a lesser extent the nipple.

It's been going on for a little while, it comes and goes. I've been using my facial moisturiser on it because I wonder if it's a dry skin thing (and I figure that's more gentle than body moisturiser). It helps a bit. However, I have my doubts it's a good idea because I don't want to soften up that area before trying to BF IYKWIM.
Last night it was driving my crazy about 2am, so much it was keeping me awake and I've scratched a graze into one side.

When I tried to BF DS I found my right side to be the one that actually had some milk in it, which is why I'm thinking this one sided problem might be pregnancy related.

Any ideas?
