We did the whole nudge thing but the trick is to go in about 5-10mins before he would normally wake and just enough disturbance to make him flinch sorta thing but not fully wake up or open eyes so takes a couple of practices to get it right!

As he's only 5 weeks I wouldn't worry about creating bad habits tbh, you can work on 'fixing' said bad habits when he is older say 4 months+.

Also babies do change there sleep habits a lot (well some do) but basically it seems once you get used to something they change it all on you!

There is another current thread about this that covers a lot of advice, plus try searching the forums for 45 minute sleeps or catnaps, as I know I've commented on this before too.

Also check out the Sleep Store website and facebook page, they have lots of helpful advice about this and other sleep issues.

Good luck!

Edited by _Rilla_

He might just need the help to go back to sleep for now.

What I've heard (but never tried) is to try going in just before you think he's going to wake up, and then tickle/pat/nudge him. Not enough to wake him up, just enough to get him to "notice", if you know what I mean. Apparently it resets their sleep cycle and they go on to sleep for another cycle. Hopefully someone else who knows more about it can come in here and give you better advice about it!

And babies change their sleep habits a lot, so be prepared if that does happen. It is completely normal! Chloe slept through the night for a couple of weeks, and has never done it since. (She doesn't sleep that badly, by the way, I'm not trying to scare you! )

Edited by MissShell
