I recall DS doing a similar thing, talking and watching his hands and not sleeping. I used to feel a bit guilty leaving him in there for 30mins+ if he wasn't sleeping, but decided that if he's happy then the time alone must be what he needed.

Edited by Mealz79

    Author: Rainbow
Subject: 38903
Posted: 23 April 2011 at 10:29am

I remember my DS1 doing this too and so I am thinking it might be a normal phase but wondered what other 3-4 week old babies are doing. For the last few days DS2 has been an insomniac for his first morning nap. He is quite content so don't think it is a hungry/discomfort/pain thing - he just lies in his bassinet with his eyes wide open for ages - like over an hour after I put him down today he is still lying there! It will soon be time for another feed and therefore he will have missed this nap altogether. Could it be that he wasn't tired enough - put him back into bed after he had been up for just over an hour from his night's sleep.

I suppose if he is happy then I don't need to stress but it bothers me that he isn't alseep when I think he should be!!

His other naps are usually ok with the odd exception.

Any ideas/advice? I don't really think I can sit and rock him etc when I have a toddler to look after too.
