We had DS1's second birthday at a park. It was awesome. We had a picnic, and everyone brought a plate and the kids had a great time playing. Then there was no messy house to tidy up.
However his birthday is in February, so it was a lovely warm day. But I still think it would work in May.

We had Jacksons 1st Birthday at the local park. I made and organised all the food, and we put on a BBQ with only Sausages to keep costs down.

We did combine it with a mum from our mothers group as it was her DD's 1st as well and she did her own food too, but we ate from each others if that makes sense?

I made a birthday cake, Rabbit shaped biscuits (peter rabbit theme), club Sandwiches and of course sausages for the BBQ.

Do you take him to a playgroup? Quite often you can use the facilities at a playgroup and only pay $5. Or hire a church hall usually thats only donation.

Otherwise instead of a big party maybe have two or three special friends round? If alot of it is about space. A park is fine but the end of May you need to be prepared for wet weather. i have picnics at the park beofre. i had edens first at one tree hill we did my step sons there as well. i have been invited to pinincs for birthdays too.

I have been to a few park birthdays.

You can buy those little boxes at the $2 shop. Packs of 6 maybe or even 12. Those ones Chinese can come in.

Then just make a cupcake for each one. Chuck in some lollies, mini choc bar,fruit(maderins,grapes) etc. You can really put anything in them. Because you are giving each child a limited amount of food to eat it works out quite cheap. We did fish n chips at the playground for my twin DDs 3rd birthday. Hi,

We had Roo's 1st birthday in the park. We live in an apartment and there's just no way on earth we'd be able to have all our friends over with their kidlets.

It worked really well. I'd made a cake, but apart from that, we kept it quite casual and everyone just brought a picnic.

Having the playground there worked well, as the older children could go off and play and everyone else hung out on picnic blankets

The down side is that there was no wet weather option. Okay, so I cant afford a birthday party for Thomas with all his friends to come along, so I was thinking about just inviting people to the local park which has the most excellent playground. Its a child safe park too (all enclosed etc). My question is, has anyone done this or been to a party at a playground before? Its a the end of may, so it's the beginning of winter and stuff, but I really cant do it at my house!
