Any good midwife will still have all that sorted - I'd make appointments to see a few, and chose one you click with. If for some reason she isn't all you wanted, you can always change - although hopefully you won't need to.

And congratulations on your pregnancy! Try http://www.mamamaternity.co.nz/ - they can send you a list of midwives in your area.

I dont know where you live but you could also consider going with a hospital based midwife team. Because of your age you may benefit from this as you are shared care between doctors and midwives. I am doing this because of my weight. The only issue is you dont get the same midwife for delivery - you get who every is on duty. But that doesn't bother me. And I am enjoying the care of the hospital midwives because they are really onto it. PM me if you want more details.

There is a list on here somewhere where people recommend their midwives. The best thing you can do is 'interview' a few midwives and see if you click with them and if they share a similar point of view to you. If you do this early then if you dont like them after a couple of months you can always find someone else.

Hi everyone,

I'm pregnant due on my 42nd birthday December 8th. This is quite bizarre for me as I had my first child at 21, second at 23, third at 24 and 4th at 25 (he was a c-section). So I've always been considered a young mum.. and now I'm at the other end of the spectrum. First (and only) baby for my second marriage. The problem I'm having is that for the first children, I had an excellent mid-wife who basically managed my entire pregnancy. I didn't have to think about specialists or appointments or scans or anything like that. She just had it all booked in. She has now retired and is no longer in NZ and my doctor has given me NO information whatsoever. So now I'm at a loss in terms of what to do. Can anyone help?
