Its only around lunch time and only one feed really when we are out. She'll happily eat solids (I tend to give her the fruit ones) and drink water so she's not hungry.

She drinks pretty heavily (makes her sound like a drunkard) in the morning and before she goes to bed.

I've tried drapeing a muslin over us but she plays with it.

He just gets too distracted - he might have a few sucks, but that's it. Using a muslin doesn't work (he's just really interested in it and wants to play with it!) and I've taken to wearing necklaces just for him (the things you do for love ) but they don't help in public.

I just figure if he needed it, he'd drink. I usually take pots of baby custard to feed him when we're out (becuase he loves it, and as he often doesn't eat when he's distracted either, I know I can get that down him!), and I give him some water - I figure he's getting something a little bit milk-like in the custard, and it won't hurt him.

I have to use a feeding cover now as it's just far too embarrassing to be exposed constantly!

Some things that have helped have been:
- Using the car or parent's room (though the rooms can be as exciting as the next place)
- Using a breastfeeding cover - I got a good one on TradeMe that has an opening so I can still see Ollie
- Wearing a necklace that he can play with while he drinks

However, it dawned on me last night (so funny that you should post this today) that now he'll take some solids, I can just do that while we're out. I don't think missing a couple of feeds a week will hurt him and chances are he'll make it up later. Given how badly he drinks when we're out, it hardly seems to be worth the hassle.

I'd only be concerned if it were every day and/or you thought she wasn't compensating later in the day.

I guess it depends how much time you spend out and about. If it's a lot of time, you might want to try feeding her somewhere more quiet like in the car or in a parents room if you can find one, if only to make it more comfortable for yourself and to keep your supply up. I don't think you generally need to worry too much about babies' feeding habits - they eat when they're hungry and let you know when they want the boob.

Edited by sarasal
