What about creating a little basket of everyday objects like measuring spoons, wooden spoon, material, cardboard tube, pinecone, pegs, river stones etc.. we had one for DS at that age and he loved it (idea was from SPACE). He also was a very active little boy.

If it's a nice day DS also liked to explore outside and crawl over the grass, look at ants running around pick up leaves etc... could entertain him for ages!

They do get frustrated right before they learn to crawl. It was much better once mine got crawling sorted - for him at least. For the mum, it's chaos!

I started taking mine swimming when he was 4 months - you don't have to pay for lessons, just go play with him in the pool. Maybe take a couple of toys that float - they like it when you hold them on their bellies so they can chase the toy around.

Do you ever wear him in a backpack or sling? They often love the opportunity to watch everything you do as you go about your normal daily stuff.

We do mainly music and swimming plus try and do a playdate once a week. I rent toys large activity toys for a month at a time so she always has a toy to play with. At our Space programme it didn't matter when you joined - it caters for up to one year old. Some groups separate the ages out - it just depends how many are in your area. Play groups are a great idea and usually founder 1 's they are free. Loads of other kids to look at and new toys to ay with. Weehee, yes he is such a people person he loves talking to all kinds of people, he gets upset when people don't take notice of him. High maintenance anyone? lol. Yeah I think getting him to more classes is a good idea. We tried wriggle and rhyme once when he was smaller and he was a bit overwhelmed but I think with the way he is now he would like it more.

All great ideas, thanks, I am browsing trademe for exersaucers as we speak.

Des- when I say bored I guess I mean fussing yeah, but it is solved by doing something else so I tend to figure he's bored.

There is SPACE in my area so could try that too does it matter than he's not brand new anymore? Are you able to get to any groups? I think he sounds like a people person. Ring all your local churches and ask if they have a music group or play group. He is def old enough to get something out of it    (we've had babies start at our music group much younger than him).
Also if you check on the Mainly Music NZ website you will find a list of all the Mainly Music's near you and a person to call.

Nathan loves to go on nature walks - just around our garden looking at leaves blowing in the wind.

A visit to a resthome? (you could call up and see if there is someone who is quite (for want of a more kind term) with it who would like little visits from a baby)

exersaucers are a fantastic investment! esp when they are really moving and you need them contained for a moment to go to the loo/hve a shower/hang some washing!!

When you say bored do you mean that he is fussing?

Perhaps he is just frustrated that he can't move as much as he wants yet?

We do the same range of activites + the exersaucer - when DS starts fussing we rotate onto the next activity.

You could also try:
Dancing
"Flying" (I think my son thinks he's a rugby ball :-) )
Making noise (pushing a coke bottle with rice in it or banging pots, DS likes playing with plastic cups which he bangs on things).

Or just doing those activities in different places - a blanket on the grass - crawling practice on the bed and playing on the deck/patio with toys.

My DH reckons babies are like fish - they can't remember what they were doing half an hour ago so just do it again!

Toy LIbrary is also great - we hire an exercauser for 2 weeks so don't need to worry about buying one. They also have great musical toys etc.

I also have a very active physical boy and need to distract him every 10 mins! Loves bubbles (just bought cheap supermarket ones). you could try going to one the wiggle & rhyme sessions at the libraries (for under 2's) or rhymetime (all ages).

Also if you are worried about buying new toys and getting too cluttered you could always try a toy library- most of them should have toys from 6 months old and at our one you can hire excersaucers.

My boy is nearly 6 months old and he's extremely physically active, he is constantly kicking, grabbing, moving in some way and he's commando crawling everywhere and very nearly crawling.

He loves to play but he gets bored easily after about 10 mins. At the moment he has his jolly jumper, playmat, various toys, we read books together and chat, he sits in his bumbo chair, I take him outside sometimes and we go for walks. He also loves to go places like the mall and supermarket. He loves music so I sing to him as well.

Have been considering an exersaucer as he loved one he tried out but I can see myself just buying more and more toys and having the same problem lol.
