When we were renting we had a nasty cheapo foam mattress on our bed and that was rancid to sleep on, so that made up our minds on the mattress.
The other deciding factor for us was that Baby City in Henderson had just opened and was doing a "buy one item, get second item 1/2 price". We had a VERY lengthy discussion with the sales lady (good on ya DH-just what I needed when I was 8mths preggy!) we decided that each have their pros and cons, so it's just down to personal choice/budget. In the end we spent the same on a flash osteo innersprung mattress as we would have done if we were going to buy a foam one

We got innersprung- the lady in the store was very passionate about proper support etc etc and they just seem better quality. I would never sleep on a foam mattress myself so thought I should get the same for bubs. I went with innersprung, out osteo reccomended it over foam, something to do with how fast lil ones grow and how innersprung is less likely to mould to one shape as foam? there isnt too much price difference due to the package deal they are offering - hence the dilemma - didnt know about the bacteria inhibitor though so will check that...the cots come with the foam but upgrade to the innersprung is not very much at all....
might go back and see if they have the bacteria thingey...
cot converts to a bed for later so would probably buy a new mattress anyways later on i think if a 2nd one.

Jake was/is a heffalump and a lot heavier than other kids his age. I just wanted a foam one (treated) and if she ever gets uncomfortable I can throw down another mattress. I was going to chuck the mattress out after Olivia (as the rate of cot death significantly increases with the number of children that have slept on it). But I got a Sprott mattress cover instead which I will be using for (hopefully!) #2. i brought an innersprung from the warehouse... but it has to last a while, thru two kids at least. oh and the innersprung was thicke so i t brought the height of the cot up a bit.. less bending down cause i am lazy.

Maya had a foam mattress and I've bought foam for the twins as well. Way cheaper, and they are pretty firm so I figure just as good. Well we finally found a cot we like today and need to decide whether to go with the foam mattress or the innersprung one - can anyone fill me in on pros and cons of either / both??? Im not sure which way to go on this one...
