Thanks for all the info. Is physio treatment free if you get referred by your midwife?

Eassa, one thing that made sleep more comfortable for me was using a pillow for support. If you sleep on your side, put it between your knees - it helps the hip area relax. If you lie on your back, put it under your calves. sarasal - I see you're in Chch... get your MW to refer you to the physio at Chch Women's... It took them nearly 3 weeks to contact me after MW sent the referral, but the woman I saw there was amazing! Plus any of the back/belly belts that you need they lend you for free. And they can help with alternative ways of doing things and other exercises that may be able to help you. I have quite bad SPD, was given a belly belt, which did help somewhat.. went back a second time and ended up with a thicker belt to wear as well, as back and hip pain had gotten worse. It's weird the way our bodies compensate!!

Before I ended up at the physio, I also went to an osteopath twice.. Had immediate relief in my lower back, and it helped the pain I was having in my upper back as well. Pity we can't afford for me to keep going...

Or the good old wheat bag/hot water bottle/hot shower/bath etc work wonders too...

I have a smiley belt that I got through the hospital physio for free. Mine is for lower belly pain - kinda like a really bad stitch in the wrong place. It helps a bit but doesn't fix it, but I certainly couldn't walk anywhere without it. got a belly support belt through my physio - makes all the difference am in such agony without one - it's an Oppo - similar to a smiley but more heavy duty

wear it so the back support bit is under my belly as I have less pain that way (it's my belly/hips that hurt not my back)

I have just brought a prenatal cradel. They are really good. $95 new on trademe but I picked mine up alot cheaper second hand.

I brought a smiley belt and found it to be good. I just had lower back ache and it helped to take some of the pressure off. Has anyone tried any of the products available to provide back and belly support in pregnancy, like the bellybra, belly belt or smiley belt? I'm having terrible back pain with this pregnancy and I'm just wondering how well these devices actually work?
