Author: millemama
Subject: 39686
Posted: 02 December 2011 at 9:22am

Hi everyone, just checking in, got date yesterday for CS, 15th December, yay, just 5 days short of EDD. And I'm having her in Tauranga, not Waikato (bit of disaster there, saw OB there the other wk, but hated the ward, hospital etc, so antiquated so got changed to Tga. It works out better anyway cos Dad lives there and DH and DD can stay there and take 5mins to visit me instead of 1hr to Hamilton. With only 2wks to go still got lists running through my head of things to do, guess it doesn't help having Christmas up soon either. But what a cool present!

Hope everyone is fit and well.

Oh, another thing that was laughable bout Waikato OB visit. A large portion of visit was taken up by her "talk" about getting my tubes tied, seems a big issue, I guess cos of age (43). MW only asked me once and that was that, but even tho I was quite precise with my answer "thanks but no thanks" OB went on and on about it, then when the penny dropped I wasn't interested, she carried on about what sort of contraception I was going to use afterwards. I couldn't believe it, wanted to tell her where to stick it and that it was none of her business, lets just get this little puppy out first, but wow she was insistent, guessing again that it was age related and maybe she found it hard to believe that it wouldn't be a tragedy if I did fall PG again, even tho not planning on it. She would have been about 10yrs younger than me or more. I have not had any issues with either PG (first one at 39) compared to lots of ladies I know who are much younger. I wholeheartedly believe that its more health related than age related. But there you go, can't change everyones mind I guess. Had anyone else had any funny/annoying PG/age related stories this time?

I am so looking forward to the end of the school year so I can relax and look forward to our little girl arriving end of Jan/beg of Feb. I'm excited about having another scan in little over a week which was unexpected. MW said it's because I had CS last time and I'm probably going for one again this time the obstetrician wants to see a new scan. YAY. Good luck for all those getting towards the end of your pregnancy.

All is good with me, this has been my best trimester, feeling good and lots of energy, and just found out the other wk had only put on 7.5 kgs, which I found really odd, cos feeling and looking bigger than with DD. She had her 3rd birthday a mnth ago and I had my 43rd birthday a wk ago! So the old girls have still got it, lol

I'm having an elective this time round so should be interesting to compare. I was 1mth off 40 first time and went 5 days over with no-one mentioning any prob with that, thats why I was surprised. I did birth in Oz so wonder if thats the diff.

I just feel that sometimes the medical profession push the older mum 'boat' out a bit far, and it really has more to do with general health etc than your physical age. I have had friends who have been told horrible things by Drs etc re her age, which is just not correct, whereas others are seemingly fine with it. My GP's wife just had their last one at 46, I was quite surprised. Sorry don't mean to rant or get on the bandwagon, just don't like being told certain things like that when I know its just not always the case. We had a wonderful OB in Oz and we came across a bloody horrible one that happened to be on call, 2 totally different approaches and opinions. Needless to say I kept my legs crossed until my Doc came on. lol

I find it hard to choose the good foods all the time, unless they are there, quick and available with an instant energy hit. Comfort food seems to always hit the spot! Make sure you have some good healthy snacks on hand for when she is born and vitamins too. Instant gratification is what its all about when BF, for them and us. lol

Edited by millemama

Sorry don't know a lot about CVS but if you really want to do it then book it when you book your nuchal, but book it at the earliest possible timing as it can take up to 10 days for results, unless somehow you could fast track it. Then book CVS for last possible timing and then when result are found out and you have talked to a few more people then make your mind up to take the test or cancel appmt. That way you have covered all bases.

I had DD at 39 just before my 40th birthday, and am now PG at 42, will be 43 when DD2 is born. I had NT with both and result were good odds. But have had friends younger with not so good odds that have also turned out fine too. If you read up on google its surprising how few births are downs and how many initial results beat the odds.

My personal opinion is it has a lot more to do with your health and wellbeing more so than your age.

But follow your heart and if you really feel the need to do it after researching it all then thats what you need to do

The way I looked at it, this is our last and there is a slight risk of miscarraige. I decided that I could live with down syndrome but not loosing the baby because of the CS. I believe the amnio is a tiny bit safer. This was just how I felt though. It is totally your choice and I can understand wanting to find out. It would be a hard wait but all good things in life are worth waiting for. Pregnancy has a way of teaching us to be patient.
Good luck with your decision.

So like you JD, had boundless energy compared to this time and its got better 2nd tri, but only just. Surely a couple of years is not going to make that much different. I reckon its got to be the running around after a toddler thing. You just don't realise how much time is spent on it. I think you just have to change the goalposts really.

I found as soon as I got a ringbinder going with 'to do lists and shopping lists, etc etc I started to manage my time better and felt like at the end of the day that if I had ticked a few things of the list I was happier. Oh and I am trying harder to drink more water, which has helped me, and taking floradix iron, and spirulina tablets which also give me a boost. Don't you find almost all pregnancy 'stuff' is geared towards younger parents? Especially photographs. I was feeling much older than my 41 years as a result!

We have a two year old and the new baby is due April Fools Day. Both cloma babies.
Finding this pregnancy much more tiring. Last time I sneered at all the tips about daytime naps etc and didn't take any of the special leave preggy women can get. This time round can't get enough sleep - day or night! Could be due to working, wrangling a toddler and trying to fight off a bad cold. Could just be my age!

Also, with 2nd pregnancy - don't you thicken up around the waist fast? Actually losing weight due to morning sickness, but couldn't do up my jeans at 10 weeks.

Sorry about the random spill of thoughts but we decided to keep pregancy quiet until after the week 12 test results come in and it just isn't as much fun (or as real) if you can't talk about it.

Edited by JayDubb

I read about it the first time and thought it was a great idea, some pre-made dinners for DH and me when we are both feeling exhausted after baby comes. But somehow only managed to make a lasagne. Well the theory was there anyhow.

Will try better this time round, but yay! will be BBQ & salad season soon.

Know what you mean about feeling big Happygal, but Choco's right, bubz is only going to get bigger! I complained to MW that I felt bigger, more heavier this time round but hadn't but on anymore weight than the last PG, so far. She said it was pretty normal to feel bigger 2nd time round. Oh joy!

I can feel the waddle coming on soon.

Have been feeling lots of little kicks this last week and half and yesterday actually saw them thru the layers of clothing, late for me cos placenta is in front. So thats cool cos it feels that much more real now. And feeling like a house some days, harder to bend down to pick something up and have felt a little sleepy during the day which not used to, didn't happen first time round. Must be to do with having a toddler to chase and gettin older, lol.

Choco not long to go, and don't worry about not feeling ready it will come, sometime around their 21st I'm guessing, lol. No really I actually didn't feel ready last time until I knew the nursery was up and ready to go, clothes and equipment were bought and bag packed, then I felt ready. Remember having a little "is this labour" scare which turned out to be nothing but got me really panicked because things weren't in place, so sorted that then when labour did start I felt a lot calmer. It's like clearing your desk at work before a holiday (yeah right!!).

Welcome back Happygal, tell us all about the trip, the food, the shopping, the sights. How was your 28wk scan is bubs still ahead on size?

I love the whole setting up the room thing. Not quite as exciting this time round as renting at the mo, so only room available is to share with DD, and with lack of storage space in house there are a few things in the room that need to go out before I can get baby things out of storage, which will be exciting. Bassinet needs to be set up in our room too.

Looked at old photos of us setting up DD's room and it was an empty room with a lot of bought stuff and some handcrafted stuff dumped in the middle of the floor until about 3wks prior, then it all came together beautifully. GL Cinderella. I just felt relief at hearing the heartbeat, as that was the first time. Apparently I'm anterior, which for those who don't know (I didn't!) means placenta in front, baby behind = can't feel any kicks, still can't, although have felt just a couple of movements, thats it, so hearing that heartbeat every 4wks is reassuring. I was never this worried the first time round, don't really know why now, probably hearing other peoples stories online. Sometimes too much knowlege is a bad thing, lol.

My anatomy scan is booked for the 11th, can't wait, hope all is ok and I get to see which 'flavour' we have

My NT scan is this friday. One day off 12 weeks but can already hear the heart beat on a doppler so that is positive. Was so much younger with my other kids never had to worry about DS. It never even crossed my mind. Not that I think there is a problem this time but I am a little nervous.
We are going away early Oct to rarotonga with the boys. We were there at easter for 5 days with out the kids. Working 7 days a week and being a full time mum is really wearing me down this time.

On a positive note the last 3-4 days I have started to sleep better at night so I am not quite so exhausted during the day. It got to the point I wouldn't drive anywhere in the afternoons because of fatigue.

I will be 37 when Baby2 arrives. Although advanced age is a risk factor for many pregnancy events/outcomes, I agree that what's more important is individual health. Personally, I'm counting on good genetics - there's many women in my family who were/are successfully popping out babies into their 40s.
