Everyone used to say Jack was teething and he got his first tooth last week. He didn't even get red cheeks or dribble that much when his teeth finally came. But if she is dribbling heaps watch out for dribble rash cos he did get that real bad when his teeth came.

Of course it is developmental (You know that the developmental part of them chewing on their hands is so that they can learn to not choke on things), but it can also be teething. Your babies teeth move up and down in the gums months before they break through. There are obvious signs like red cheeks and grizzles that are the difference between development and teething.

Ok well no offense to anybody (yes, even as a first time mum), but if it's not teething, then what the heck is wrong with her ?? *Something* has got to be up, because this baby is not my usual placid, cuddly, smiley Erin. Instead she's been replaced by a grumpy, tired, grizzly, dribble monster - and did I mention the fire engine cheeks ??

And if you couldn't already tell, it's making *me* grumpy too - so again I apologise, but I reckon there's a good chance of it being teething. Can't hurt to try and treat it even if it isn't, right ?

Little babies also have more feeling in their tongues than in their fingertips, that's why everything worth exploring (in their opinion ) goes in there. I've heard all the saliva is actually a good thing because it gives its own personal disinfectant lol

But as for when they start teething, the earliest I have heard is just before 4 months. Now you are going to have every granny on the North Shore telling you Erin is teething Jax! Hanah started dribbling and chewing her fist about the same time and EVERYONE said she'll have some teeth out soon - well she never got any til she was over 10 months! I knew that its probably jsut a developmental stage but noone listens to a first time mum about stuff like that. Jax i asked the plunket nurse about this about a month ago coz ella is the same and was doing it heaps (and still is) and she said they are at the right age to dribble like no tomorrow and also explore with their hands and munching on them. With the munching on the hands its stimulating the saliva glands making her dribble more.

Ella has jsut recently started dribbling with no hands in her mouth but i dont know if that is related to her reflux or her possibly teething.

Jake got his first four top teeth at once, then all four bottom at once, then all four canines and then all four molars...not fun

Tain got his first two bottom teeth, then got the far top tooth----which i thought looked really weird, i was ready to go to the dentist and have him fitted for braces - and then the three other top teeth are in. Ah ha ! Just the thread I am after. How early is it possible for a babe to teethe? I know I've txt a couple of you ladies about this already, but Erin is still dribbling like a waterfall and constantly has her fists in her mouth - even when she has a full tummy. I'm not sure if there are any 'lumps' in there, feels fairly gummy to me, but then again since this is my first... how am I supposed to know? Paris didn't get any teeth till 2 weeks before she turned one, she then got her 4 front ones, all her molars, and FInally.. ages later, she got her eye teeth.

Ayja didn't get any till about 14 months i think, she still only has the 4 front ones.. and that's all.
