Somewhere around 9 mths I started leaving one arm out and it started working (whereas before it hadn't)and then not long after that he started pulling his arms out of the swaddle almost immediately after wrapping him which he hadn't been doing before so we stopped then and he was fine. DD was swaddled until 10 months. DS1 was swaddled for ages, think it was around 12 months. I had to make larger swaddle cloths for him and all. I bought sleepywings and they are great! Yip we try the cold turkey approach every now and then and nup he won't have a bar of it! If he s tired he ll sleep till midnight before swaddling him again and I not so tired he won't even go to sleep without it... So we ll just keep trying till we get there... Though lol just had a thought .. We were in the same position and just went cold turkey one day when the wrap wouldnt fit and she was fine!!!

I was swaddling DD for quite a while, from memory around 1.5yrs, and I wondered the same thing Snugglebear, but it was never an issue for me, she got to sleep easier and wriggled out of it pretty easy after she fell asleep so just kept swaddling and every so often tried it without to see and one day it just wasn't needed anymore. It'll be fine as long as its ok for you and safe. I honestly wouldn't stress, if you don't mind, he likes it and it's safe. I had to wean Jacob cold turkey because he started rolling on his front and not being able to get his face off the mattress when he was younger, but a 9-month-old wouldn't struggle with that. It will be a battle now, why fight it if there's no real need to? We swaddled to 12 months. As soon as he turned 1 we stopped cold turkey and it was fine. I had fears of her never weaning but someone pointed out to me that no adults get swaddled!

I wouldn't worry about it. I was still swaddling DS until about 15 months when all of a sudden I thought I'd give it a go without and he was fine.

so ds is still being swaddled at 9 months of age and its not really a problem but honestly i have visions of still swaddling him when he's two!!

so this is what we've tried so far, he is in a sleeping bag so we've tried just wrapping his body, one arm out, both arms out, tucking a sheet tightly around him and using a dummy/cuddly,

but what happens is that he sleeps on his side/tummy so he wriggles to the bottom of his cot and basically gets very very very upset until i come in and swaddle him back like i did when he was a newborn!! (minus the legs)

soo my question is do i really need to wean him, will he just magically grow out of it one day??
