It doesn't hurt them & it would rule out the true allergy, which then puts you in to the food challenge arena.]]>

Thanks :) I was talking to the doc about testing DD for dairy intolerance and he wants to do a skin prick test, but I couldn't work out how testing her skin would work. Guess I was right. ]]>

People who are allergic to certain foods can be kissed on the cheek & have a reaction either small or big. <br /><br />"In the evaluation of IgE-mediated (true) food allergy, the skin prick test identifies specific IgE antibodies to the suspected food."<br /><br />so it's testing if you antibodies in your blood/skin to the allergens]]>

Forgive me, but I'm struggling to see how a reaction on the surface of the skin is meant to indicate the abilities of the digestive system...
