We didn't do much for the kids at Andrew's 1st party as there was only 3 young children - the rest were adults and we had a BBQ.

I'm taking the easy option for Andrew's 3rd birthday and it's going to be at McDonalds with 4 other children from daycare.

Jake loved pikelets and cream for his birthday - and as we in japan and they'd never had them before, all my japanese friends and their kids loved them too. Lewis' mum made a neat layered jelly cake. the kids enterainted themselves with bubbles mostly. I'm in the process of pinata making at present. We will play "Blues Clues treasure hunt". For jake's we didn't have much in the way of games, but we did have a book that everyone signed. Hmmm toy library is a good idea, I never thought about that.

When Hannah's 2nd birthday came around (her 1st got joined with Christmas plans) I put together chippies, cake and juice and joined with another family for a small afternoon tea. Didn't want to overwhelm her! Although I'm starting to wonder how far to go with 3rd birthday this year.... Someone suggested pass the parcel, Hannah would easily get the idea of that. I find food ideas easy but that's about as far as I've got with how many to invite and activites to do lol

that place in palmy called fun-to-go toys, is great - you can hire slides, baby stuff, little cars all sorts, very reasonable and you get em for a week. their website is the same.. fun-to-gotoys.co.nz i think.. lol

doesn't take much to entertain 1 yr olds, blow up a few ballons and have em on the floor and that creates enough of a distraction for a wile... that's the nice thing about having 1 yr olds.. they don't take much to distract most of the time. you could also put different things in the balloons like rice, stones, water, material, string, which makes it interesting cos they bounce differently and make noises when you shake them. but just watch, cos if they burst there's the potential for alot of mess and possibly stuff going in little mouths that shouldn't.

I find anything mini-sized great for parties cos otherwise they just don't eat it, or leave half of it, so you could make mini pikelets - (i think you can buy them too - pikelet bites) mini choccy chippy bikies or mini meal mates and snax.. sammies etc.. pretty much the stuff you'd give them to snack on, so maybe some fruit cut up, some packets of raisins.. heaps of other stuff.

and cake. gotta have that.

We were lucky in that I hired Maya's daycare centre for the afternoon so that kept the kids entertained. But they were mostly older kids. Maya wasn't fussed with being entertained so much, she just wandered around and got lugged around by various family members and friends.

I think you could have, small samies, sausage rolls, mini pizza, spring rolls, those small sausages (what are they called?)....small maffins and cake ofcourse.

OK I know there have been previous threads about these, but there are a few coming up and I can't be bothered searching for them!

So its Hannahs first birthday party in a week and a half and I need to decide what food to have. There will probably be around 15 adults and 4 or 5 one year olds. Its going to be at 3pm so not a main meal time.

Also, what to do to entertain the littlies?
