I've been to Thantakit International in Bangkok thrice(OP, filling and root canal) and was always happy with my visits. The dentists were professional and they've been trained abroad. It's also great that they don't continually upsell. Be very careful in picking a dental clinic overseas. The great part is that you'd get to travel and explore the country's attractions. Always do your research first.
I had to have a root canal due to an infection on one of my front teeth. Both my top front teeth are capped due to an accident when I was a teenager. About a week after the root canal I noticed a crack in my crown- I had to have it replaced. Also, he'd be tempted to use gold, as it's stronger, even though it doesn't look pretty, but due to my overbite...

Soooooo now I think the decision I've really got to make is:
* Do I get my jaw fixed for my overbite?

As far as I can tell, if I'm going to get this kinda work done, it's better before the crowns.

*sigh* I don't know what to do. I'd really love a great smile and to fix my overbite, but I guess it's the cost which is holding me back.

I'm now also looking at America, as you get those places which specialise in full mouth restoration. That said, I don't want veneers.

Sem... it was a chap in Newmarket that this dentist would refer me to. She had a filling the first morning and the second morning she found out it had been done by a trainee and wasnt right and the proper dentist had to redo it. But that was the only downside. She had a whole bunch of fillings, veneers, a bridge made all for $800ish NZD. Apparently she refused other work such as braces and full veneers (because they would remove her teeth and she would have to spend a day teethless before having the new ones fitted so maybe they didnt do temporary ones!) but better being teethless in thailand then at home where you'd run into everyone you know i reckon! It takes about 5 - 7 days to make the crown anyway.
They do have warranty, but you would have to travel back to Bangkok to get it fixed. Crowns do have a life span, but that is for anywhere you get it done. You have a choice of what sort of crown you want. I had porcelain fused to metal which was cheaper.

My dad had some implants done in KL. He travels frequently so it worked out well. Author: JD
Subject: 40227
Posted: 19 August 2011 at 9:45am

I didn't go through a company, I just organised it myself. I went for about 2 weeks by myself. Because I was getting crowns, I need to be there for at least a week and I also wanted to have time at the end of the proceedures to go and check out Phuket. I needed two root canals, plus posts put in (something for the crown to attach to since my teeth were so filled with filling) and 2 crowns.
I was very happy with the quality of work I had. They had a different dentist for each of the different stages. The different dentist specialised in certain areas and some of them were lecturers at the university.
They were very kind and gental, but they did have some weird things...like the bib thing they put on you actually covers your whole face with just a circle for your mouth. I didn't like the feeling of that over my face so they were happy to adjust it for me. There were lots and lots of westeners there getting alsorts of work done. I had this done about 5 years ago and still no issues whatsoever with the work they did.

I went to Bangkok Smile Dental clinic. They have two branches and most of my work was done at Sukhumvit 21 which was not far from where I was staying. (one stop on the mrt or about 30 mins walk). I stayed at Classic Place which was cheap as chips (about $25-30 a night). Im not sure what condition the hotel is in now since I went about 5 years ago now. The rooms were very spacious and it was literally 2 mins walk to the mrt. There was also a nice massage place next door that I would go to after treatments to cheer myself up. You pay for the massage (cheap as) and you get free internet after. It was cheaper than getting 15 mins internet time at the hotel.

All up, the entire trip including flights, accom, food, dental treatment, sightseeing etc cost about the same as the dental treatment alone her in NZ. I also lost a bit of weight there since it was hot and I drank so much and ate so much fresh fruit. They have these little stands on the side of the road with fresh fruit. They would cut up a watermelon, pineaple or whatever right in front of you and it would cost about 10c. It was safe to eat because they were cutting it right in front of you...it wasn't just sitting there. They have the fruit sitting on ice and it is delicious!

Let me know if there is anything else you want to know :-)

So I booked in there for a teeth clean & was happy with it. It's the dentist inside the Patong Merlin resrt in Phuket. Wish i'd seen them earlier in the holiday as they said I need to replace a crown which over there costs about half or 1/3 price of NZ. Think the dentist in Thailand quoted me $18,000Baht which is $700NZ or just under. My teeth cleaned & scaled over there came to NZ $60

Hubby & I have decided next time I need dental work we will just go back to Thailand. If you search the thailand forum's on Tripadvisor search for Dr Joy and Dentist Patong Merlin.
