I'll add in my two cents re IUD....I'd wait a little bit to get it put in, I got mine in at 6 weeks & it kept shifting & then I got it taken out. If I did it again I'd wait til at least 12 weeks for the cervix to recover. IUD is minimum 6wks after birth because cervix needs a chance to recover.

Yeah take your time with getting the snip - friends of ours had 2 kids and she was pretty unwell both pregnancies. They made the off-the-cuff decision to get the snip right after #2 was born and not even 6 months later they were gutted and totally kicking themselves. She blamed him, he blamed her, it was a big mess and took them ages to work through. They were in their mid20's too. Dh and I have agreed we'll give it a minimum 2 years after our 'last child' before we make any permanent decisions like that (though DH thinks him getting the snip is a terrible decision fullstop ).

We've found natural planning (basically charting so as not to get preg) and uhm :whispers: the withdrawal technique is what works best for us. SMS, my GP said it was about $55. It's now heavily subsidised by the Ministry of Health. I was told today i wouldnt get Mirena subsidized.

I was also told that 3/5 women that go on the Jadelle have irregular periods/bleeding. Now i forgot to ask this but since i am exclusively bfing & bfing often i must say lol i wouldnt expect my period to return anytime soon. So going to this would it make my period return sooner or not???

Does anyone else have any experience on Jadelle good or bad??

Also Rachelsea how much did yours cost to get put in?? I was told it would be $240 at my doctors & thats not including however much the Jadelle is.

Just on the Mirena requirements side (just in case you are interested in it), I didn't even realise I would have got it subsidised.

My GP mentioned it and all I had to to was get a blood test done (I wanted my iron checked anyway so it wasn't a bother). She called me two days later to say yes my iron was low and I was approved for the subsidy, she put through a request and a week later I went and picked up the prescription for it and made an appointment to have it fitted. Hi SMS, I have the Jadelle implant and it's great so far for me. Have only had it for a week and a half though lol! Am not having any side effects from the hormones. *touch wood*! The great thing is it is effective for 5yrs, but can be taken out easily if you decide you do want another baby (which isn't gonna happen here either lol).

ETA: I asked about Mirena but it has quite strict requirements to get it subsidised, and I couldn't be bothered getting tested to see if I met those requirements so went for the Jadelle as it is subsidised.
I could have got another plain copper IUD but that did cause me issues so didn't want to go there again

I just got a Mirena IUD put in a couple of weeks ago at 3 months post partum. I could have had it done earlier but just didn't get round to it.

We want DH to get the snip, but wanted to wait a year before doing anything permanent which my GP advised also. My GP clinic does the procedure and I was told the Dr would also want us to wait at least 12 months before doing it. The IUD was the best solution for us so we can just forget about it now until we want to do anything more be it 1 year or 3 years. Plus it was subsidised which was a pleasant surprise, I was going to get it anyway so that was just a bonus.

I had it ages ago (pre-baby) not sure if it makes a difference hormone wise afterwards. Was fine for me. Was going to get it this time around but i could get depo right then and there and would have to come back for the rods later. I cant take any pill because they both give me severe migraines so its just not worth it.

If you can take the mini-pill, Jadelle (the implant) is also an option. Depo has the same hormone as the mini pill just 1 hormone.

Tradition pill is combined pill of 3 hormones


I was on the mini pill from 4wks after DD2 was born and didnt affect b.milk feed her till 9months when I had to stop to go on another medication for varicous veins which you cant take whilst pregnant/feeding. Then I went on standard pill.

I have seen a new pill safe to take whilst pregnant advertised in either little treasures or littlies magazine just cant tell you the name at the moment.

Maybe check with GP or local family planning might have more up to date knowledge than MW?

Umm the mini pill is safe for BFing but you've expressed you don't want to go on it. I have been tossing up the normal pill as it's now safe for me to take but I can't take the normal funded one, I have to get this expensive one because I suffer migraines

Depo was 100% effective for us though. I'm not on anything atm.
