I wondered where everyone got to!

30 minutes a day is still a really good effort; your baby (and your midwife) will thank you for it.

How's everyone else doing? Good I hope. The heat doesn't help things but I'm lucky in that I'm at the gym so it's nice and airconned.

I had a bit of a break over the christmas period (only had one workout) but back into it last week. Today's workout was 6 rounds of 200m run, 10 thrusters (10kgs - front squat with a shoulder press at the top) and 10 pullups (assisted). Reasonably happy with it.

I have been slowing down a bit, partly because I have been doing a lot more being away from work and on holiday, so less time/energy/need for formal "exercise". Done with running though, and even walking is a bit of an effort, but still enjoying the pool- and wishing I could justify hiring an elliptical for at home! And going to preggy yoga too.

Just had a look at my workout log for the last few months, and figured out I'd averaged about 30 mins a day since getting UTD. Not a lot given I used to average more like 90 mins a day (of much more intense exercise), but every little bit counts. Hopefully I can keep that up for the next 4-9 weeks!

I gave birth 14 weeks ago to my wee man and exercised through pretty much the whole pregnancy. I Crossfitted like MrsH, just scaled down my workouts and took it easy. I think its fine to give anything a go - just listen to your body cos it'll definitely tell you when it's getting too much. I found I got out of breath really easily so had to slow right down. And some exercises like squats I stopped fairly early cos they just felt too loose and running with my boobs was a no-no!
Even though my boy arrived 4 weeks early by emergency C-section, I truly believe exercise throughout pregnancy helped in my recovery (I was walking around upright the day after surgery which shocked the nurses) and my body has bounced back post pregnancy. I never did weigh myself but I'm wearing my old clothes and my tummy is flat. I've just started back at the gym which is great, albeit humbling to start right at the beginning again!
I wish everyone a healthy pregnancy.

Was happy with how I did- kept it sensible, but still pushed a little, and was faster than some non-preggo (though, to be fair, they'd done the swim and bike too). Now I'm ready to give up- it's just too hard on the legs, and I want to work on getting my hips nice and loose.

Swimming is getting harder again, which is annoying. I think baby is squishing me so I get really burpy and can't breathe properly. But I love being in the water, so will keep at it!

I'm 24 weeks tomorrow and finally feeling a bit more like myself; well, a tired, ginormous version of myself. Have had a good week of exercise, but have taken the pressure off a lot- I'm not running as much (though I ended up doing half an hour last night- no walk breaks!), or going to the gym, but I've been swimming heaps (5 times last week), and walking more often.

I'm on a 3 month gym membership and have decided not to renew it later this month- I've liked going, but the gym's not air-conditioned enough to provide much relief over the hot months, so I think it'll just be walking, swimming and preggy yoga for me. And then I can spend the $250 on something we need for bubs :)

My DP and I had been doing that consistently for a year. Also, I have been doing pole dance for fitness for about 6 months now. It is a really high intensity workout, more like gymnastics, and also tends to leave bruises.

Now I am feeling very timid about working out, especially since I'm in 1st trimester, worried about risk to the pregnancy, and the morning sickness just makes it impossible some days (ever try spinning around a pole while you're nauseated?).

Before pregnancy, I was all for keeping up my exercise routine, as I'm sure being in shape is great for labour. But now I am feeling very protective of myself physically, and trying to find the right balance.

I've switched from running to walking 'uphill' on the treadmill. I tried pole dance class, but was so nauseated/tired I spent half the class sitting on the floor. I don't want to loose all the strength I have gained, but I might need a less intense alternative, with less risk of falling from a height and hurting myself. Maybe pilates? I'm still figuring it out...

And still running in the short crossfit-style bursts. So still doing it which I'm really stoked with considering that I did bugger all during my last pregnancy.

I'm interested to see how it's going to aid me in labour and to see how much weight I will put on. At the moment, I've not put on any weight and am 70kgs. Last time, BEFORE I even got pregnant, I was 85kgs and got up to 92kgs at full term. Weight gain doesn't bother me, in fact, during the first trimester I was slightly concerned that I haven't gained weight but it will come, oh... it.will.come

I will carry on as long as I am comfortable and then I will use www.crossfitmom.com for some scaled workouts.

Look forward to hearing how everyone is progressing with their exercise regimes.

I guess I won't know til we start TTC if my weight matters. I got attacked by seagulls a couple of times on holiday up North (and get attacked by magpies on the bike all the time). Horrible!

Velvet- some people (especially hardcore runners) find that slowing down helps (possibly partly because of increased body fat), but if you're doing a normal level of exercise, it should be ok for TTC. If you're worried about miscarriage in that grey period, you could cut down for the 2ww, but then work a bit harder in the other two weeks?

I found that my body slowed down for me- I'd been trying for a few months, and had slowed down a little bit after a season full of triathlon, but in those two weeks before my BFP all my workouts were a bit lacklustre. The day after AF was due, I was convinced for my entire run it had arrived, as it was such a rubbish run; but no, it was actually the baby.

Sorry for the novel!

I had to have some help conceiving so I kind of hoped when i entered that i might have to pull out - its something i've ALWAYS wanted to do and I just needed something to focus on other than TTC just in case it was gonna take ages.

Anyway i've been too freaked to do anything other than walk in my first trimester, but will start antenatal yoga at 14 weeks (they don't let you start before then) and maybe a prenatal pilates class too. As well as walking and swimming.

I'm sure anything and everything will help in the end though!

While I wouldn't class myself as an addict, I enjoy being active. This is a complete 180 to the woman I used to be - who thought people who ran were a bit silly I certainly don't think that anymore, now my aim is to be one of those 'silly' people one day, and complete a triathalon and 5k.

Earlier in the year I finally found my motivation to lose weight and get fit(-ish ). I got halfway to my weightloss goal (11kg loss) and then the next day found out I was preggy. I was determined not to fall into the 'eating for 2' trap and the mindset of 'I'm just going to get fat anyway' - though I hear it calling constantly!

I can't really jump around much anymore as it's starting to hurt (and my bladder can't take it ) but I go to Zumba once a week and do a workout DVD at home most mornings. I use Turbo Jam and just do a 20min one. I also try to walk as quickly as I can whenever I need to walk somewhere. I use www.myfitnesspal.com to monitor my food and exercise too. It's kind of like Facebook where you have friends to support and encourage you along the way and I really think it has helped me this time around.

Right enough blabbering from me!

Before the BFP I wore a Berlei Shock Absorber, level 4, which meant my boobs were well supported when doing high impact exercise (such as running).

Now at 19 weeks I wear a Freya sports bra (GG cup) and that is just as good as my Berlei. It cost $100 from Rich Undercover in Auckland but once I knew what worked for me I bought another online in the next cup size, which cost me $50.

Background for exercise for me - I'm 34 and like P a triathlete, although middle to back of the pack depending on the distance. I completed my fourthh Ironman tri in March then stopped taking the pill.

1st tri I coudl not run as my heart rate would go through the roof far too quickly, so I power walked with short bits of running (downhill). I managed to stay swimming 2-3 times a week and would get to a weekly spin class so long as it was on a day off work (swim and spin are on the same day and I couldn't do both with work in the middle).

2nd tri - running mojo has returned but I am much slower than I used to be. started sffering from plantar fasciitis which makes it sore to walk in the mornings but it's getting better. I still swim 2-3 times a week (3.5km each time) and this week is our last spin session of the winter.

I hope to be as active as possible to a) help the labour be as easy as I can possibly make it myself and b) so I don't gain as much weight as I am fully capable of as I gain weight really easily and I've had a very big appetite.

I'm hoping that now it is lighter I can go for big walks in the evening after work.
Pre-preg I used to run after work, though only like 15min and then around 30min of doing squats, tricep dips etc.
I've been trying to keep it up but the "I'm just going to get fat anyway" mentalilty is starting to kick in.
Just have to remember I can at least try and have toned arms and legs even when my belly is massive!
Slowish, but enthusiastic, training 7-15 hours a week throughout the year (7 in quiet periods, 15 at peak training season).

In the first tri, I didn't do much exercise at all as I was terrified and exhausted. Kept up with some walk/running and swimming- probably did 2-4 hours a week on average.

I'm picking up a little in the second tri, but bump is already making it harder to run, and I'm still feeling first-trimesterish a few days a week. Also returned to the gym at about 13 weeks for the controlled environment and to do some much neglected weights training, and am really enjoying it, but need to get a bit more light cardio in!

Piwaka
