Yup I'm doing pocket nappies...that's a great help thanks! And thanks for the info on approx how many layers for the inserts you use too because that would have probably been my next question!

Yup microfibre with hemp or bamboo is the best combo for pockets :)

Are you doing pockets then? I like microfibre for the side closest to the baby, inside the pocket, because it absorbs fast, then hemp or bamboo after that. Microfibre doesn't hold wet as well as hemp, bamboo or even cotton though. So once it gets soaked it will start squishing out.
A hemp/bamboo blend is nice because you get the absorbent qualities of both (more so bamboo) with the quick drying properties of hemp.
I've gotten by so far with microfibre, hemp and bamboo. I am able to just use a single 3-4 layer microfibre insert during the day (per nappy!). One of those gets us between 3 and 5 hours. I don't think mine is much of a heavy wetter though. At nights I do a light (2 layer) microfibre insert, a hemp/cotton 2-3 layer insert (it's thin fabric, so a fairly thin insert) and a 2 layer bamboo/cotton fleece trifold (so 6 layers, and bamboo cotton because the fabric shop was out of the bamboo hemp blend. Hi there,
I'm trying to get started on building up a collection of cloth naps for when baby arrives in January....So far I've only bought a couple of Peapods that I got on special at the Parent&child show, but I will be making the rest myself as I'm a sewer.

I was wanting to get started by just doing a whole lot of absorbant inserts first(can't afford to get all the fabric at once lol!) and just wondered what are the best fabrics people have found for absorbancy? The website that I'm ordering from has bamboo or hemp fleece in various weights, microfibre, or cotton velour. I'm thinking bamboo but just wanted to get some opinions on what has worked best for people....
