I agree Bizzy, it would be so awful to run/sit/play in a really full nappy.

Both of my kids sleep through the night but during the day they are drinking a lot, whereas overnight night they aren't getting extra fluids.

I will often do the nappy squeeze and change it if it feels like its getting bulky. Just because a disposable isnt leaking doesnt mean it shouldnt be changed. Once they pee in the nappy it activates those little crystals and the more that goes in the fuller and heavier the nappy gets - and they get quite hot in there too! Nothing worse than seeing a kid with his nappy round his knees because it is almost overflowing! Change at every poo and apart from that probably every 4ish hours? I would say about every 3 or so hours, but Im sure I've left them on longer at times for various reasons eg been out and about or in the car a long time, long sleep etc. Generally I change before sleeps if it's full, or when he's getting his clothes changed anyway and it seems to need it. She'll be in one overnight from when she has her bath at 6pm till 6/7am the next day then its when ever it needs changing. When we are out and about I will change her into a clean nappy before going home as she sits better in the car seat.

I used to change at every feed as a new born, umm not it's just when it needs doing - poos or when it starts to feel/look full or about every 3-4 hours depending on if we are mega busy or just cruising at home. I dont think 5 hours is a long time... the vast majority of kidlets 6 months plus (nearly all I would think) would sleep through the night without getting changed and that would be over 10 hours! DD goes 7pm to 630am without a change...

Obviously whenever she is dirty I change her. She also has a night nappy that is on 7am - 7am. Our son gets his nappy changed before each feed (and as others have said of the nappy is soiled he'll get changed then too), so I'd change the nappy every three - four hours during the day and up to nine hours at night (if he sleeps through the night). Obviously if babies have nappy rash or anything like that, they would be changed more often. Do what you feel is right and ignore everyone else. DS1 3 - 4 hours or if he's dirty. DS2 more like every 3 hours. DS will go through approx 4 per day so he'd have it changed approx every 4 hours from 7am, more if he's been drinking a lot or has more than one dirty nappy.

the ones we have at work (size 10 kids size up to adult size) all claim to last 8-12 hours, so 5 hours for a baby one seems fine as not every baby will go within say 3 hours of putting one on.

Out of curiosity, how often do you change disposable nappies - or in other words, how long does it take them to get wet through? I find they last a lot longer than cloth ones (obviously) but when Jacob was sick a while back and I called healthline the nurse asked when he'd last had a wet nappy. He was in a disposable and had had a change at 9am, and it was about 2pm, and she was a bit shocked? But given that my cloth ones last three hours, I wouldn't have thought five hours was disgraceful for a sposie (I felt a bit bad!), and was just a bit curious about what the norm is?
