Hi all,

Everything is going great. Had the big 1st birthday a few weeks ago. Alex is nearly walking and so full of energy. I have been back at work full time since June now. And Alex goes to daycare twice a week and at my mums from 7am-5pm Mon-Fri. Pretty full on!! But loving him so much.He is so much fun to play with!! Hope all is well.

Hey, I used to read this, but wasn't on facebook back then so it got a bit slow after a while! Anyway, feeling bad about dropping out - Nathan was born 10 days late, so made it into September. And is of course completely amazing in all ways possible ;) Hope everyone is doing well.

No idea - I'm not on FB. Havinh resisted thus far, I'm disinclined to sign up (on principle!). Bit gutted about the group moving there, but I guess it's not the end of the world.

Grace's favourite is "Good Girl Grace!" which she uses to try & convince me she's had enough to eat (hahaha - nice try young lady!!). This is accompanied by hand clapping. super cute! Whoops is cute too!

We're just back from Thailand this week. It was a bit mental, I'm really glad to be home. Grace loved all the attention, & the fact that she got carted around in the front pack everywhere. ;) But my son has picked up an infection - just waiting for his test results to come back (nothing serious, he's still perky AS, but it does mean we have to limit his diet A LOT till his tummy is back to normal, poor kid!).

With regards to the "boring" jolly jumper have you tried any of these ideas:
> putting a tray with a little bit of water underneath him, so he splashes as he jumps
> attaching a balloon to the JJ with string (though the one on Grace's JJ popped yesterday... she didn't mind at all, just wanted to know where it went?!)
> tying gauze ribbons to the JJ (so they float around while he jumps)
> putting a mirror beside him so he can watch himself jump
> attaching a bell or rattle to the JJ

We often have at least one of these things on the go - yesterday we had a balloon AND a mirror. ooh ahh.

Movement is exciting & exhausting - I wish Grace would just sit still sometimes! She's very grabby - trying to get into everything (even though she can't actually move properly yet). & the number of times she boffs herself because she wont sit still...

Babies and logic: not really compatible!

Right, gotta go. Grace went to sleep at 11pm tonight - she's been going down between 12 - 2am since we got back. I'm pretty excited, except now its midnight anyway!! gah!

My Mum & Step Dad & sister are here tomorrow from Dunedin, which will be great. We also have some people coming to fix our carpet at 8am, which is a lot less than great. -sigh-

Good to hear from you! Australia was good although just about to land in Brisbane, but due to cyclone we got diverted to Sydney. So after flying there, sitting 1 hour on the tarmat and then into transit lounge for another 1-2 hours we were on our way back to Brisbane, but did about 4 loops in the air before landing as they were even contemplating whether we could land. So considering Alex spent about 7 hours on the plane that day he did really well!! Others on the plane were commentating on his relaxed attitude etc. He is so full of beans, such and active baby. We are crawling on the belly here all over the floor. I cannot even have a shower in peace anymore, he makes it from the lounge to the bathroom to say hello! Can sit alone here too and jolly jumper is almost too 'boring' for him now. He needs so much stimulation just go-go-go! Going to be interesting when he has this crawling mastered on the hands and knees - he just gets on them and rocks and moves his legs only in that position. But watch out - he'll be on his way soon! As for solids, we are 3 times a day with meals and he eats HEAPS. No teeth through just yet - but one is very close!

Good luck with the trip to Thailand! Sounds exciting - and i'm sure it will be a breeze! I was surprised at the number of kids and babies on the plane! And the airline staff were good too! It helps!

great to hear from you! I'd almost forgotten about this forum... whoops.

We're doing well. Grace is into solids too - so far very keen on peach, pear (just as well as we have a massive pear tree!!), banana (with or without avocado) & nectarine. Unfortunately, she'd rather not eat baby slop because no one else eats it. uh oh! Today DS & I both had kumara puree for afternoon tea, just to show her that "all the cool kids are doing it". Worked a treat - she ate the whole bowlful! ;)

She's sitting independently now, which is awesome. & LOVES the jolly jumper. She pivots & shunts herself backwards when lying on her back or her front (as far as I can tell she does this PARTICULARLY so she can pee on the carpet, rather than on the nappy I've put her bottom on. Wasket!).

We are heading to Thailand in about a week, for 2 weeks... with both kids. I think I might actually be completely bonkers to be attempting this!!

How was your trip to Australia? I hope Alex behaved himself for you - flying with a baby can be QUITE stressful, I think particularly because of the public-ness of it? I often feel stressed when I feel like I"m parenting in the spotlight...

Really good to hear how you're getting on. It sounds like you're doing a great job!

Hi Bex, how are you getting on? We started solids and Alex just loves them! He is on 3 times a day at the moment and eats equivilant to one of those baby food jars at each feed - so making my own now! He is up on hands and knees rocking so it wont be long until crawling - yikes! Rolling all over the place! Off to Oz for a week next week with him to visit my best friend who has Placenta previa (placenta over cervix) so is having a c-section 20th Feb. She hasn't met my boy yet as she was unable to fly over with the condition. Anyway I hope Grace is doing well!

Hi! Just catching up in here. Ha - funny about the ginge BexD hehe - they can look so cute tho! We have the slightest tinge from the brown turning to blonde. All the new hair is blonde. Growing up fast geez!! Was just like yesterday they seemed newborn! Crazy, now we have rolling, teeth moving etc. All is well here anyway - other than a rash that I think is a food reaction to what I have eaten - possibly strawberries? Who knows! Will keep eye on it. Keep well.

we've just instigated a routine in the last couple of weeks, after too many weeks of Grace going to bed between 11-12pm! new routine is bed between 9-10pm, WAY more civilised & so much better for me (plus she sleeps longer: 10-11hrs instead of 8-9...ha!). it can mean that if she sleeps in the sling, i don't get any baby-free time before bed though... cos she'll only sleep once!

right, time to get dressed & go & drag my kids round the vege market (joy!)

Keep meaning to post but not really sure what to say .
We lst Jackson to E Coli Meningitis in the 17th oct . Such a horrible illness . The medical team at both southland hospital and Starship did everything humanly possible but nothing worked . Feeling very empty . But everyone has been amazingly supportive .

Hello all. It's been awhile since I've visited the forum.
Shaiyan is now 9 weeks old and is over 6 kg in weight!! She's only bottle feed now as my milk never came out properly. She is a happy baby, sleeping between 6-7 hrs stretch which am hoping will soon be longer as I am due to go back to work beginning of Nov! Not looking forward to it and am sure I will be missing her heaps.

Izabella just done 6 nights of 10+ hours yaya! She is such a good girl. She is still bottle and breast feed, so I am lucky in very way with her.

She rolling over now (abit scary for mummy) and lots of bab talking going on.

Wow, i keep forgetting about this thread! How is everyone coping with there new bundles of joy?
Im in love with my Gorgeous Elise. Just to recap since i wasnt a frequent poster in here, she was born 3rd August, so almost 11 weeks old now, and boy has it flown by quick! Think she might even be showing signs of teething.

Hi all,

been a while since i've been on here.. glad to hear things are going well for the 2 of you who've posted! i'm a bit sad that facebook has hijacked our forum. cest la vie!

Grace is doing well - 10lbs now (4.5kg) and had been sleeping 6-8hrs for the first block of the night since about 4weeks old. Praise the Lord! Better than that, she's started going to sleep between 9-10pm the last week (was between 11-12 previously), which means I actually have some hope of getting enough sleep to stay sane as well. last couple of nights she did 9hrs, then another 2hours & i got most of that too. AWESOME.

She doesn't sleep during the day much though... 1 or 2 hours in the afternoon, & a few other short kips (10-20min) here and there. Quite happy while she's awake - likes checking out what's going on (usually quite a bit with DS charging around).

Have been doing pretty well re:PND (had it with DS, on the lookout this time!) - had a couple of bad days last week, but have had a good weekend.
Feeling really stoked that she's started accepting expressed milk from a bottle over the last couple of days, which will give me a wee bit of space each day (this was SUCH a lifesaver with DS).

Did i mention that she's a red head? gorgeous colour, but definitely red... surprises me everytime i see it, even after 7weeks!!

anyway, that's quite enough from me - hope all continues to go well for you all!

Yep still going well here too. Infacol is my lifesaver - we have a very spilly and windy boy but otherwise all is good. We are getting around 6-7 hours a night followed by 2-3 hours. I can cope with that. We get out of the house most days and enjoy our time together. Have left Alex with his dad for one evening so far and went to a cloth nappy workshop. Was fun! Anyway, hope all is well! Can't believe he is 9 weeks old! Time is going by so quick and he is even starting to giggle and cackle away at me with his huge gummy smiles!

Hey everyone

Sorry I haven't been on here for so long but keep reading about everyone. Kailey was born on 26th July weighing 6pounds 12 oz it's amazing how everyone was either early or late doesn't look like anyone went on their edd.

We are good, have colic and reflux but we are surviving and Gaviscon is our life saver. she is way happier. You forget the nightmare times when she smiles and chats away at you.

Hey Inspired_Jurney, we have babies sharing the same birthday!! However I was only 2 days over! 14 days wow - your bubs sure was hanging in there! It is pretty amazing isn't it - the best thing I have done in my life for sure!!

Alex is growing well, last week he was 9lb 13, so 2 pounds over birthweight. Must be over 10lb now!! 5 weeks tomorrow! Plunket visit this week, so looking forward to that too!

Hi everyone,

This is quite delayed as I am just getting to know this website.

There seems to be a bit of a gap for August 6 babies so will add to it. Hazel Grace was born this day 8lbs 3oz after being induced 14 days past due date.

4 weeks on and we are just loving her! she is the most amazing thing I have ever done and just can't get enough of her even when she wont sleep.

Congrats to all other August / Sept births

haha, breathing and concentrating while having contractions were hard, lucky my mum and hubby were there to remind me...

We are having a second growth spurt so not much sleep here. She loves to lie in her bassinet and just stare out the window.

Beautiful pic BexD! And SoHappy 5-6 hours wow so lucky haha.

My parents came to stay last night, and after I fed midnight feed mum fed my expressed milk to baby when he woke around 4:30am and went until 8am!! Was so good to get a good sleep - only thing was one of my boobs was soooo full it hurt and I couldn't sleep in and had to get up to express it at 7am.

Hope everyone is well and happy. 1 month old today!! Can't really believe what I was doing at this time a month ago. Funny thing is, mum and I are both here today and a month ago it was just us when I was concentrating through contractions in the lounge too!

Izabella is having I will only sleep if im against your chest day... its so tiring letting her cry it out in her cot. Also she feeds on demand and sleeps 5-6hours at night before waking for feeds.

This picture is what I took of Alex this morning smiling. He has been doing genuine smiles since he was about 10 days old - not windy ones! He has been very windy however but I have used Infacol and he seems so much better now and I am taking some herbals - Gastric Distress so is going through my milk for him.

I was never told to feed at particular times - have been demand feeding since birth. He feeds around 3 hourly mark. Am lucky to get 3 1/2 hours at night - so having 4 hours I think you are lucky BexD!

Hope all you ladies are enjoying your time with your new babies. We still have a few ladies left to have their babies still - so to them: Good luck!!

Grace was weighed today - she is now 3.66kg (she started at 3.67)! Clever girl. And our MW said we can leave her to sleep til she wakes up overnight, rather than waking her 4 hourly to feed... awesome! Though actually, my milk supply tends to wake me up around the 4 hour mark anyway, so I'm not sure whether I can sleep longer than that... I injudiciously rolled onto my full side last night & woke up soaked in breastmilk. mmm...

SoHappy, that is an epic photo of your little one - I love her hair!
How did you load the photo up? I have a GORGEOUS one of DS & Grace..

And you too SoHappy - what a beautiful baby

Hope you mummys are all enjoying your bundles! Just remember when things get tough that they DO get better and often 24 hours later they are such happy lil babies again. We have had a few rough days through the past few weeks. Alex is a very windy and spilly baby. I find it hard sometimes to differentiate between whether he is hungry or just has wind. But other than that he is doing well and is now over 9lb (born 7lb 13oz). So growing well and a few cm's extra too. He is over 3 weeks old now! Have had a few outings, a couple of grocery shops and today was such a beautiful day we went for a nice stroll around the village with a stop at the cafe for coffee and cake with mum and a friend

Hi everyone,

Grace Awatea* was born on Thursday 23rd August at 9:27pm via cesarean section. (*Awatea means dawn, or day break)

10 points to everyone on our team (Obstetrician, midwives, support person & DH) for doing everything they could to help us have a natural birth - we had a good go at it, but it turns out that my pelvis was not a good fit for our little girl (didn't work for DS either). Feeling happy with the outcome.

Grace has been pretty good so far - latched on very quickly & has had little trouble feeding from day one (I know, it's only day 3!). We came home today, DS was very excited to see us & kept interrupting the BF with kisses for the baby... cute.

So excited about sleeping in my own bed...

Congratulations SophieD, that's great news.

Our fabulous midwife managed to negotiate an extra day for us this morning when we were down at the hospital for our induction/"elective" cesarean (I find it highly ironic that it's still called an elective cesarean when you don't want it!). We go back again tomorrow morning to be induced, unless baby comes tonight ...

Feeling much more positive about all of this, not sure why 24 hours feels like it will make a difference, I guess it's having a say in things?

anyway, will have a birth announcement for you soon..

Good luck Bex! Hope things get moving for you today :)

A bit late, but our beautiful (not so) wee girl arrived on the 10th August but elective c-section. She was 10lb 7oz at 38+5 so I am super glad we went for the sun-roof option!

Her name is Elise Lynnette and she is pretty settled really although I am slowly getting used to breastfeeding again...gosh it is time consuming!!

I might try and come back later today and update the list with everyones births from fb as there have been a few :-)

Congratulations KiwiPino, that's great! Hope all goes well for you over the next wee while as you get acquainted with one another... :)

No action overnight, which was probably good, cos I needed some sleep! Things seem to have started up again this morning... we'll see how we get on. MW is coming round later on this morning to do a stretch & sweep & try to move things along (we are on a deadline, with the cesarean booked for tomorrow!). She didn't do it yesterday cos it looked like things were happening already...

Congratulations to everyone that since has babies!

We welcomed our little girl Shaiyan Caite on 11 August at 5.17 am after being one week and two days overdue. She weighed at 9.2lbs.

Labour started at about 1am, went to the hospital about 4.30 and we held her in our arms 45 min later with only gas as my pain relief.

Good luck to those still waiting and God bless.

I now have my son's bug, just to make life interesting (temp, congested, coughing, sneezing... bah humbug!).

Nevermind!

My MW is going to do a stretch & sweep on Monday arvo, so hopefully that will help things along... DH is off to get curry for dinner.
Acupuncturist gave me "acupuncture to go" yesterday, so I have a small needle in each little toe, held in place with a sticking plaster. The things we do A?

Hopefully I'm well enough tomorrow to do some walking...

Taliez, sounds like Alex is a very settled wee man. Good job you! My boy used to cluster feed between about 6pm and 11-12, it was hideous until I made friends with it... wonder what this young lady will be like (I guess we'll be finding out soon enough!!)

Oh bumma BexD! I really hope you can go option A or B too for your own sake! The night before I went into labour I was nice and relaxed - watched One Born Every Minute with DH, had a hot bath and he gave me a nice shoulder massage. I know there are some trigger points in your shoulders too. By 5:30am I was well on my way of early labour.

So just relax and have a chilled weekend - you never know!!

Oh and I ate HEAPS of pineapple ;) Softens the cervix apparently! Don't know if it actually worked or not but tasted good so no harm in trying!!

All is going well so far with Alex. Just starting to get a good night pattern with him waking for feeds and just as well at times as boobs get super tight!! lol.

He cluster feeds around 5-8pm with a bath in the middle around 6pm. Then he is usually settled in bed by 8:30-9pm. Wakes for feeding 11:30-1am then again at 3:30-4am then goes until 6:30-7:30/8am. He is normally up feeding for around 1 hour. So I'm pretty happy getting about 5-6 hours broken sleep.

Not such a good day here - my BP was up at 152/96, so I had to go down to WHAS for monitoring. Luckily they read my BP much lower, unluckily, they still weren't happy with it.

They did a VE to check whether they could get in for an ARM (artificial rupture) but the cervix is still closed (after 2 weeks of ongoing pre-labour!!!). Good news is that baby's head is well down (DS never got there).

So we're booked for a cesarean on Wednesday morning, which will go ahead unless A) I go into labour before then, or B) they can get in to break my waters on the day. I'm really hanging out for A or B...

feeling a bit sh*t - disheartened & disappointed. Was really hoping things would be different this time round, but now feeling like there's no hope of that being the case.

Spent a lot of time in tears this afternoon (what a sook!), planning to spend the weekend walking up hills, eating curry & having acupuncture...

Fingers crossed!

Hi all.

Just popping in to say I woke at 5:30 on Monday 6th with what I thought were more braxton hicks, but they turned into actual labour - yay!

We welcomed a little boy Alex William into our lives at 7:28pm weighing 8lb 1oz - 06/08/12.

At home now settling in since yesterday. Just so much love around and super happy dad!

Best of luck those still waiting!! I am thinking of you!

Hey, how is everyone doing? I havent been a regular in here. Popped in the other day to say hi.
Just wanted to announce the safe arrival of my beautiful baby girl Elise Ruby, on Friday 3rd August at 1.49am. She weighed 7lb8oz. Was a rather quick birth, 7 mins from when my waters broke til i was holding her in my arms.

Congratulations to all new parents!! I envy you guys We are still waiting on our little one to finishing baking.

So far I am 4 days late! Had a scan today and seems all is well. Baby however is measuring a tad on the larger size, close to 10 lbs +/-. Really hoping she wont be that big though.

Well here's wishing all a happy and safe delivery.

No birth announcements yet then? Soon I hope...

Had my first acupuncture session today - It's not going to be the highlight of the next 4 weeks of my life, I can tell you that! But I wouldn't be letting someone stab me with needles if I didn't think it was worth it..

BP is starting to go up now, am trying to be restful, though it can be a bit tricky with the small boy running riot! Started potty training this week... good fun. More pee in the potty than out for 2 days in a row - am pretty stoked. Tomorrow he goes to the grandparents, so that will be interesting (for everyone!).

Hello everyone!!! Well today is my due date and am still in one piece! So want to see this little one. Braxton Hicks & cramps going on since last night so who knows.

Most of those that i knew were pregnant had their babies after their due date and i seem to be following the trend. Hope not too far away. Had MW appointment today and shes not that concerned as it is rather normal to be over by 2 weeks!!! I hope it wont be that long a wait! Will booked for a scan next week to check water volume.

Eating spicy food, drinking raspberry tea, pineapple and KFC which apparently would help get into labour. Yes have heard of the S.E.X to work too however with my pelvic pain unfortunately its not possible at all. I can't even climb up nor down stairs!!!

Well, all the very best everyone and yes do share birthing stories once we've popped

hotmummy, 5 days? Wow. Hope your next scan checks out as well. I guess having a c-section booked reduces the stress of it all compared to having an emergency one which would have been quite overwhelming.

Taliez, same here! Torn between wanting to get it all over with and enjoying the peace lol. And yea, go Chiefs haha! If baby decides to come out then, you can name bub after whoever makes the first try.

Midwife visit tomorrow - will know my results from the last glucose tolerance test. Really hoping that I tested negative! Will also ask her if she thinks bub has engaged already because my belly looks and feels lower now. Gaaah just remembered not done with birth plan just yet.

Not too long to go now I just want this to all begin so I can have baby soon. Although am enjoying sleeping in and sitting around til midday in PJ's and watching Olympics....I know things certainly will change soon! So enjoying while it lasts!

Midwife visit tomorrow - looking forward to that. And my next pregnancy massage booked for Friday will be 39wks+6days then, so she is going to do an induction massage So see if that will start anything if nothing else happens this week.

The Chiefs are playing the final this weekend and Murphys law -will probably go into labour then haha.....

Hi All,

Love-Heart my first baby was head down and I still had to have a c-section due to him looking sideways, had contractions for about 5 days.

Had a scan at 36wk and having another on 3rd Aug and also due 7/8, booked for c-section at 41wks if baby hasn't come naturally by then.

From what I hear having a booked c-section is better than an emergency one which is what I had.

Thank you! I do hope they come back normal, too. Birthing centre's just 10-15 minutes away but if tests come back positive, they'll have to bring me to hospital -- which is a 45-minute drive -- due to it being considered high-risk. Not convenient at all. And the birthing centre's prettier and more cozy haha.

Whoa 2 weeks to go! Very exciting. Hope all goes well on the 10th and that you get back on your feet soon enough. Rest well!

yeah the movements certainly start to get a bit more painful as you near the end, yesterday baby must have been sitting on some kind of nerve as everytime it moved I got shooting pains down the front of my legs! not very comfy.

Hope the results from the glucose screening test come back ok. I seem to grow big babies and have always come back normal on those tests so here's hoping you are just the same :-)

Well, we got a date for our c-section on friday, bubs is all booked in for the 10th! am torn between wanting the next 2 weeks to go really fast and also to go slow so that I can enjoy the time before having 2 kids to look after :-)

(edit) We don't know what we're having. We want it to be a surprise.

DH and I got quite a scare this afternoon, it was the first time the poking from baby felt painful. Shooting pain in pelvic area as well. Really no idea how labour contractions should feel like so we're just trying to wing it, I guess.

Had to have a second glucose screening last Thursday because midwife's worried about baby's size and I might not be able to deliver normally. Hope everything checks out because I'm quite keen on having a water birth.

Hope all is well with everyone! It's really nice to read your stories and compare notes.

Hi Love-heart,

Bugger the lil baby is round the wrong way! Mine is head down, had a scan at 34 weeks to check as MW was uncertain for a point there. SO i'll be in for the whole labour and try a natural birth. Bex is right, at least you can prepare - AND are given a date! My Aunty was given a C-Section date and the morning of it baby had turned, but she still went ahead anyway. Is there no way of it turning now??

There are some good articles on OhBaby under "Labour & Birth" in the Pregnancy section...

I had a c-section last time, & really didn't know anything about them - to which I attribute my quick recovery! ... I didn't know how it is "supposed" to go, so I was up and about & feeling fine quite soon after (say, within a couple of weeks, going for walks and things). Mind you, I was walking & swimming right up til I was admitted (as in, even the morning of the day I was admitted...)

At least with a planned cesarean you have time to prepare yourself mentally/emotionally for it.

Good luck - I assume they'll check baby's position again before they slice you? Here's hoping he/she turns for you (has been known to happen). !!

I went to physio and got a belt and have been having weekly preg massages too since 34 weeks. Have helped quite a bit I reckon. Slept with about 4 pillows around me last night - was horrible - baby is putting pressure on my ribs on my RHS and it is annoying!! My next massage is Friday yay. It seems funny 'booking' appointments because I never know now if we are going to make it to them or have baby in that week! I think i'll be one of these overdue ones tho damn it! haha. I would be happy with 5 days early - thats next week. Suits me :) Provided the heatpump guys can get their act together and get it put in asap!!!

Hi Taliez, for some reason the lazy boy is just comfy. I'm used to it now tho one thing is a numb bum! I was in agony a couple of weeks ago and literally cried each time i move! Now a lot easier to get up and even the walking is not as bad.

Getting my mat physio massage tomorrow and can't wait. 9 days to go according to my ticker though am hoping sooner. DS was 5 days early so here is hoping

Hey KiwiPino! I tried sleeping on the lazy boy with my pelvic pain too - but ended up with sore upper body! So now I just wake several times a night to roll over in bed!

Hi all

Its been awhile since I've been here. Looks like everyone must have been really busy on FB. Anyway 11 days to go for me though am hoping a tad earlier :-). These last few weeks just been such a drag, been camping in the lounge with DH and DS me on the lazy boy and seems to be helping with the pelvic pain. Might have to stay in the lounge till d-day at least i can have the much needed rest.
