I 2nd not buying too much until Baby arrives. I went overboard & had all sorts of things.....the DD arrived & none of them fit because she was small! Agree, get more as and when you need it. We didn't have a spilly baby and seldom had to change during the day. I second the 'wait til baby is here and then get a few more of what you need!' lol my 'not so tiny' 11 lber never wore any of the cute newborn stuff I brought and went straight into 0-3mths size so we had to go and get more of those in the first couple of weeks.

I found making sure there was always 3 lots of what ever clothing you prefer for the day, some babies go through more some less, so I say atleast 6 of most things, 3 in wash, 3 ready to use. I would suggest not buying much now, just enough so that baby has something to wear in the first few weeks - you'll be surprised at how much you acquire (we scored 2 huuugge bags of hand me downs that we used heaps!). I would suggest keeping a bit of money aside so that you can do a bit of shopping if need be once baby is here as well - you'll have a better idea what size they will be (my 'average' sized DD [7lb] needed prem stuff, at at 9 months has only just outgrown some NB onesies!), what styles you like and the weather etc etc. It's also a good excuse to get out of the house!

You live in a town with shops! You will be able to leave the house and go to a shop if you need to, and you will be able to buy on TM or online and have things delivered if leaving the house is impossible.

I guess what I am saying is, try not to stress and don't go overboard. But my two def weren't spilly or pooey. For layers its always one more than you are wearing I got a couple of merino singlets they were great for ensuring she wasn't too hot / too cold over summer.

Wow, I could never ever have done the 'one on, one in the wash, one spare' thing! Jacob was an incredibly spilly baby, you'd leave him for a moment and he'd have saturated whatever he was wearing, we went through ten changes a day sometimes, and I don't exaggerate (I was also not over-cautious about letting him wear something slightly dribbled on... changes were reserved only for actual drenchings, he just smelt of sour milk the rest of the time).

Luckily, with gifts and a couple of cheap bulk lots on TM, we didn't lack for clothes. Thanks everyone. It's more of a so that I know I've got everything that baby needs and wont run out. It's my first baby and I have no idea about number of changes it will need in a day or how fast it will grow or even how many layers it needs to wear. I've been given a fair bit of baby clothes but wasn't sure if I need to buy anything extra on top of it. I went to sT vincent op shop/salvatino army/savemart during my pregnancy and scored heaps of like brand new newborn sized clothes for 20c - $2 each. Beats $19.99 per stretch n grow.

Not sure if your minimum question is cos of budget or not so thought I would suggest it.

with a summer newborn I wouldn't go overboard as it will be too hot to wear much more than a singlet and a nappy

I washed every day and went through two changes of clothes every day.

You did well Danda I remember sometimes going through 3 -4 changes a day, with spilly babies and that explosive newborn poo. How I came to hate those domes... On the upside somedays they would last the whole day in one outfit.

I actually think they are not that much better now - went to town this morning came back and let them play outside they got grass stains then I decided to give them baked beans for lunch.. so changed before their nap.

I generally went for 5-6 of everything.

I worked on a one being worn, one in the wash and one spare basis and I washed everyday.

I guess it depends how often you plan to do the washing...
I think I had about 7-10 bodysuits/singlets, 3 pants, 2-3 cardies, 4-5 stretch n grows and washed 1-2x per week.
