I know i don't have to but, I would like to formally change it.

Yes i could just use the name i want, but i would rather he just has an 'official' surname that we use all the time rather than one i just use because I'm not happy with the current version.

If that makes sense.

I am travelling with DS next year and have been told that i will need to carry his birth certificate with me due to him not currently sharing the same surname.

I guess unfortunately it's just something that i have to deal with at the end of the day

I have requested twice now that i would like to change DS surname so it is hyphenated.

As i am no longer with DS father (he left us when DS was 3 months) i know i have to get his signature on the form.

He refuses to get him surname changed. I simply want DS to have both family connections recognised in his name.
