Its taken awhile but DD2 will happily take a bottle now. She was having 4 BF's during the day, so i stopped the 2nd one and replaced with a bottle and then a few days later stopped the 3rd one too. So that way i didnt feel like i was starving her but she was hungry enough to start drinking. I also found mixing a bit of EBM in her bottle helped (she wouldnt drink straight EBM or FF but mixed she would). Clover, you don't have to wean onto milk past 1 year old...
Just water is fine. If you are giving lots of cheese and yoghurt and you use milk and butter in baking and cooking, then there is no need to give extra milk or formula in bottles or cups.

My nearly 1 year old has never taken a bottle but I really want to wean him, he doesn't drink much milk from a cup but drinks water fine. Today I had great success with a mam bottle, the teats on them are quite different to other teats and he took to it well. I also tried with cows milk instead of formula as I hear it is closer to breast milk which he seemed to think was ok. He still wanted a breastfeed not long after and I think it is more of the comfort factor that I'll need to break.

This might sound weird but have you tried gently tapping the bottom of the bottle when giving it to bubs.
We know someone who had the worst time in trying to get bubs on a bottle and they saw a baby whisperer on tv who suggested tapping the bottle and it worked. That and rocking bubs back and forth.

Thanks guys, have tried different sippy cups, drink bottles and formula types too. Im going to keep trying for the next couple of weeks and then i think i will have to do it 'cold turkey' so its all sorted before i go away. From 4 mths DD1 refused to take a bottle- even if I was out of the room she still flat out refused. In the end I had to go back to work 2 days a week when she was 7 mths so I left with a homebased carer for 1/2 day as a trial and gave the carer a bottle of expressed milk with the instructions to try and give it to her, but if doesn't want it then don't worry.....well she took from her no problems.

Also with the advent bottles you can get sipper cup lids that attach instead of the teats- could try that and she prefers that.

LG - You may have already tried this but has someone else tried to feed her from the bottle when you are not there?? Sometimes they can 'smell you' or as calianandjack said from cup sipper or something else? Ive been trying to get my 8mth old to take a bottle so i can wean her onto a bottle before i go away. Ive tried everything plunket has suggested to get her to take a bottle, including wearing the teats for a while and dropping a BF and she still will not take a bottle. My MIL and SIL's are all saying i should go 'cold turkey' and completly stop BF'ing her so that she will have to learn to take a bottle...will this really work?
I do not like the idea of starving her but really want to wean her. Has anyone done this and has it worked? Does anyone have any other suggestions i could try to get her to take a bottle?

ETA: DD1 went on a nursing strike once my AF came back so that is how she weaned, i hadnt been able to get her to take a bottle either. They get their stubborness from their dad
