We just bought a Ford Territory and I love it. It is great to travel in, it looks syley and I get all the space of a wagon and seating (7 seater) of a mumbus without sacrificing style...yes I am vain...did not want a people movery thing or a wagon at all, hate the look of them. All of them, there is not one I would drive. We got what we did, looks aside cos we travel a lot, so needed comfort, room etc and we also have a caravan, so towing capability was a must. Good luck on the car hunt Xeon. It toke us a month to find something I was happy with (toyota pardo). I knew what I didn't want so that was a huge plus.

We had a station wagon, and it was no probs with a csection. As for ease of getting kids in and out etc, definitely depends on how tall you are. Our wagon is perfect for me. 5 ft 3 but I hate my brothers SUV as its too high and awkward. I wouldn't worry about the c-section - I just had one and would make no difference to me. Plus, because you can't drive for a few weeks afterwards, your wife would never be getting in/out of the car alone as someone else would be driving and therefore able to help. So even if she found it more difficult for some reason (but again I don't think it would be) you or someone else would be there to help her.

Remember if you do have to have a c-section you stay in hospital a bit longer than you would otherwise, at least 2 days but sometimes as long as 4 depending on the hospital, and that makes a huge difference in terms of recovery. I wouldn't have been able to get in or out of any car, regardless of height, without help on days 1 or 2, but by Day 3 I was much much better.

Instead of a SUV, I have actually started looking for a crossover, which should provide the height as well as fuel efficiency. Ditto, and also when your buckling in other children the level height makes things alot easier.

We have a Mazda MPV. (minivan) we needed the extra seats (at least 3) but and SUV would be lovely if I had have had the choice. LIke a toyota rav 4.

I agree - we didn't have a car when I was pregnant with DS1 and when pregnant with DS2 I really noticed how difficult it was to get in and out of our sedan in the last few months. We have a mitsubishi outlander and I imagine it's going to be heaps easier getting in/out of when heavily pregnant...you basically put your feet on the ground and you're almost standing up already.

Hi everyone,

I am replacing vehicle to provide more comfortable transportation for my pregnant wife (first baby).

I am considering SUV, minivan, and station wagon. All the three types of vehicle would provide enough room, but I am not sure which is most comfortable for pregnant women. Would SUV be too hard / high to get in after a few months into pregnancy?

What vehicle did / do you use during pregnancy? Any recommendations? (Budget is $20K).
