We had our baby girl on the Sunday 24th Feb, weighing 8'8..1 day before her due date at Whanagarei Hospital, with an Independant midwive (totally different to the original plan of birthcare Parnell) as we moved before Christmas. A quick speedy birth (delivered standing up!)we arrived at the hospital at 7pm and she was born at 7.47pm. Cord was wrapped around her neck and they cldnt get it off until after the birth so she was blue and floppy, however they got her engine running within a minute. I stayed for 4 hrs then headed home at 12.30am. We were all tucked away in our own beds again by 1.30am..which was terrific not having to be seperated from my other half.

Hi everyone
I'm new here and am due on 14th of February. I started suffering from PUPPPs about 3 weeks ago and it was a nightmare! The drs kept prescribing me steroid cream that made no difference but thanks to my midwife I have now been prescribed a good antihistamine that has almost taken away all the itching and spots. I was so miserable even more than when I was really sick during the first trimester. Has anyone else had a similar experience. I know it generally only happens in first pregnancies or multiple.
Anyway only 6 weeks now!! I have had friends use the birthing pool for laboring then get out and birth on the bed? I don't think you need to worry about other people, it just comes down to luck on the day. My midwife seems to think it is highly unlikely they will all be full. Yea the floaties thing grosses me out a bit haha

OMG that would be awesome!! Have spoken to a few friends but none have had water births in Chch...one had one in Auck and said it was amazing but you just need to mind the floating poop at the end haha. Im sure I can deal with that...better than sitting in it I think!! Spose its good to have the option...but then, if Im just thinking about it, I think it would be horrible of me to take the room over someone who has known from day one that that is how they want to do it...hmmmm

So asked my midwife about the rooms/beds at womens. She said the beds change all the time so a certain bed isn't guaranteed to a certain room. She also said when you commit to a birthing suite e.g. one with a bath, then that is where you stay. I am planning on going to Womens too then the St Georges hopefully. I am seeing my midwife on Thursday so might ask her some more questions about it. I too have heard there are only 2 pools at womens so I guess its the luck of the draw. Have you got any other friends that have been there and used the pools? My friends were all at burwood and the bed in the pool suite was the same as the other rooms. Hey KirsT! I have only seen the one at womans...that is where I am planning on birthing so was quite happy about it. Thing is, the rooms without the birthing pool have really flash beds that pretty much support your every position, but the rooms with the pools have really standard beds...what if you get there and try the pool and decide you dont like it?? Think there are only 2 rooms with pools at womans but they were much bigger then the standard rooms...argh...what to do what to do!!!

Hi KatieB I am in Christchurch too and am thinking about going the water birth way. I have had a number of friends who have had them and raved about it. The only hospital I have seen is Burwood and I am not planning on birthing there. Where have you looked at already? I am a first timer so wasn't too sure what to expect anyway. I did find the rooms very sterile looking though. Morning ladies!
Havent been on here for a wee while...hope everyone is well :) Just after a wee bit of advise if anyone can offer any - until a few weeks ago I have not been a tot interested in a water birth, however, as i get bigger and what not I find I am having baths far more often to relax and get more comfortable in my tight skin...does this mean I should consider a water birth??? Thing is, in chch there are only 2 water birthing suites and both have extremely average beds - obviously because you would be in the water...thoughts? feelings?

With my second I found less is best, with the warmer weather you can get away with it. And if you need anything extra can always be brought in for you. Extra spill cloth, and sleep wear always help, for you and baby! and some hospitals don't provide nappies, so double check on that. I realise half of that was pretty vague, u just need the basics. Hi all, due 25th Feb, with no 8..another girl as it turns out, as the last 3 hve been. My youngest will turn 1 in Jan and her sister 3 on the 27th Feb, so got my work cut out for me, lol. Nothing new, the others are 19, 18, 12, 11 and 9. Congrats to you all, can't wait to meet our new baby next yr..not long now....Are birthing again at Parnell Birthcare, they are awesome and I use their midwives. Love having my own wee rm after having baby! We live in west harbour, auckland.

you can become a member of other due in groups if you like - a lot of mums are due in feb but baby may well arrive early feb so I would recommend joining a few due in groups if that sounds like you - private groups aren't exclusive it just allows you to share private photos between people you're getting to know and trust :)

I'm sorry it was interpretted as a telling off - as I can promise you it wasn't :)

I didn't know there were issues with signing in every time with the mobile site - so that's good to know -
can you tell me what type of phone you use and what browser it uses?
I will then get Matthew our webbie to take a look at it :)

As I mentioned, we tested as much as we can with what we have but if you guys experience any bugs please email us - pm me or Matthew (skiltz) and we will get it sorted - we're here to help :)

I understand what you are saying about not being able to compete with facebook but I use both I don't see that it is a competition. I can appreciate your post, and although a recent member of fb, i do prefer the ob forum. I found the support in the ttc thread so helpful in tough times.

Although I understand your point of view & respect what you have to say, the telling off, editing of posts & big brother feel has quite put me off.
Also having to sign in each time is really getting on my nerves with the new mobile site. Like the look of it, but hate the faffing around trying to log back in to post.

I have been a member on here since I was due with my first in 06 and have found the forums and community a wonderful source of knowledge, inspiration and most of all support. I will have to admit that I don't really get that same vibe of here as what I did back then.

However after you post from today I kind of feel like we are getting told of like a bunch of school kids. I do understand your point of view but didn't really think it was necessary to go through and edit peoples posts when I think you made you point pretty clear with your post that action kind of make me feel a bit uncomfortable and big brother like.

Angie I understand your concern but think it is unfounded. Most people seem to post on here just as regularly as they did before they may have joined a fb group. I enjoy reading about what everyone is going through, especially those due close to me. Being that i am due feb 28th i had been lurking into the March forum as well and had actually enjoyed confirming that i was at the 'right' place in my pregnancy. However, you encouraged March to make a private group and now i wont have tgat extra source of support. Possibly you are trying to enforce changes that will prove detrimental. I'll be totally honest here. The only reason I prefer using the facebook group is because I am able to upload photos whenever I want to show my progress. I can also comment on a specific post instead of just having a generic thread where all the different topics melt into one. I still like using the Oh Baby forum but also like to have these functions as well which is why I also use the facebook group.

Just thought I would check in and get your thoughts on this.

And I'm going to be pretty honest here. We are losing some of our OHbaby! community to all these facebook groups, but we have the ability to create closed private groups with our forums and those that are using the private groups function are finding it working very well. We have upgraded the site so that we now have a mobile version of the forums so that it is easy to use from your mobile (if there are any bugs let us know and we will get it fixed - all our testing has come out fine so far,but we never know until we're told of any other issues).

So, is there anything else that will stop you from using OHbaby! as your private group and forum place to meet up? We're trying our best not to reduce the effectiveness of our forums - for them to be effective we need you here as part of the community here to support each other, to chat etc. We're a small business, we can't compete with Facebook, but if we're here connecting you from the beginning and offering all the secure facilities etc that you want then - is there any reason to go to facebook?
These forums are such a wealth of knowledge and inspiration, if you look through old posts from awesome past members, you'll see that most issues we are having now people have had in the past - quite reoccuring :) and you'll see the resolutions for those mums to those issues, the support and advice - it's just a deep wisdom that is just beautiful.
This is a real business concern for me as a small business in so many ways, namely the desire to create a special community of mums who are all there for each other online here through OHbaby!

What else can we be doing?
Would you like us to create a private due in thread for you and who shall we give the password to? Pm me if you like :)
I appreciate your understanding and support on this :)

Yay for scan BeeT! I can't wait to have mine too... my m/w yesterday said to me that I don't have to have one if I don't want to - I said I WANT TO lol
She suggested waiting til 22 weeks too thmprs but I've booked in for next Friday too phantom I'll be closer to 21 weeks. Nearly 20 weeks YAY baby! hehe

I had my scan yesterday, it was amazing!! Everything is going well, except my placenta is low, so I will need another scan at 32weeks. Just to check up on everything. I havnt been on here for a while, and you can post pics and stuff. My scan is saying I am a week ahead of my dates (my 12week sone said the same thing but we ignored it), so I think my due date will change to very early feb (from the 10th). I am sure baby will come when its good and ready!

Seems to be easier on a laptop than on my phone. Waiting for my scan next Friday to find out what we are having!!!! Its going soooo slowly. On the upside I got lots of kicks up by my ribs this morning (had them all down low until now).

What a weekend

Found out yest v close friend is due only 7 weeks after us, so super excited.
Then they spent today at a&e with a mc. 10% chance baby is ok, but she is pretty sure that everything is not ok [:-(]

I dont know what i can say to them & how to help. I know how much they wanted this bub. I guess all dh & I can do is be there for them when they need us, but so upset for them

Yip never heard of not eating. And on our form it just says dont go to the toilet for 1 hour before the scan. Dont have to drink extra. Hey Bee T, I don't think so! I ate and drank normally the day of, the booking lady made a point of telling me not to bother with the drinking heaps this time, I think they only need to do that for the 12 week scan so your bladder pushes everything into a better position, but baby is big enough now that you don't need to do that. Call them if you are not sure. Maybe the no eating is for people who are having their stomach or guts scanned? When you go for your 20week scan, do you need to fill your bladder? I was given an appointment card from the radiology place, and it says for abdominal scans not to eat for 6hours prior, and to drink 3 glasses of water. Is this right for a preg scan... I didnt feel my first baby move til 20 weeks- its perfectly normal- I think u feel subsequent babies a lot earlier cos u know what it feels like. I can feel this baby now- usually about half an hr after Ive been lying in bed at night. I have to have at least half my belly against the bed, and it feels like wee wee bubbles down low- but only happens a few times and I have to be really concentrating!

My belly has grown so much over the last week. I am finally looking pregnant, not just fat. Its strange tho, getting used to an expanding middle. Finding it hard to sit upright for too long (need to recline), and when I am out feeding the animals, ducking under the electric tape fences is definately getting harder (they are about 80cm)...

Just returned to the real world, from 4days tramping in the Ruahine ranges. It was amazing, I have always been into hiking, so its nothing new, but every trip is a new experience. It snowed a lot, and bubs has now been nicknamed 'snowflake' by my friends and tramping buddies. I was suprised that I coped well with the long days walking, the only problem was the hip belt on my pack needed a bit of extending!!!!

We are planning our next tramping trip for a week at the start of October, thinking it will probably be my last for a while.... I expect I will just get too big.

My scan is in a week, how exciting. So far, no movement, but the midwife told me not to expect anything before 20weeks, so I will take her advice.

I had the same thing the other day mariabb1! she said "oh you will be pleased to have your pregnancy out of the way by summer" i responded "i will be in my third trimester then, not due until February" she looked very embarrassed!
Yay for some other ladies in Dunedin! We need to organize a catch up at some stage :)
We have 1 more week until our scan and 2 more weeks until we have our Gender Reveal Party! Nervous dad-to-be here. Baby is due Feb 23rd, and it's the first for us both. Looks to be growing a bit ahead of schedule, but then I was born a month early and full-sized! :-)
We're all set with a midwife and are looking forward to Wellington Hospital in the New Year.

Ive had some mad dreams too. Really vivid. Both hubby & i think it will be a girl, but most dreams are saying boy! Scan will be 2nd oct so sympthise with the long wait phantom! Will be hard on the day to resist finding out but worth it in the end :-)
Huge weekend painting but whew only 1 coat to go. so excited for them to put shower in on tues. Im in dunnos too!!

Been away in Fiji for some amazing downtime. It was awesome - sun, sand & sea
But now home to reality & a 1/2 reno'd bathroom. Need to get it all painted this weekend so shower can go in asap next week. Life without a shower is crappy. Needless to say the blissfull relaxed holiday mode is gone & im stressed to the max!

What facebook group? lol!

I'm going to try and hold off until i'm 5 months before I tell 'the world' - I've told close friends and my siblings/parents but that's it... I'm already obviously belly bound but I can still almost cover it up - I made a colleague walk into one of the partitions at work yesterday - he did a double take, then WHAMMO hahahaha

Only cravings I've had are weird things like dried bananas (not banana chips!) and dried necatarines, vegemite, horlicks lol and ALWAYS feeling thirsty! To the point where I'll get a headache. Have to remember to get a water battle to carry around with me everywhere.

Went to my boys school production tonight, he did the salsa - was so cool!

I have been craving fanta of and on but when I want it I really want it luckily it's only happened during the day.

Finally told the girls at work today that I having a baby they were really surprised when they found out how far along I am. I have 3 and half months left no I'm not counting down at all. :)

I am always drinking, and never stop feeling thirsty. When people ask me if I am craving anything, I just say water. Thats what its like tho, not really dehydrated feeling, like dry mouth, just the thought of a glass of cold water is SO SO SO good! Good thing to be craving I say, hubby likes that he dosnt have to go to the shops to get me stuff. All his mates have been telling him horror storys about being sent to the shop at midnight for Ice cream or chocolate etc. Nothing so far, just water.... anyone else having cravings, weird or not so weird? Neutral newborn clothes could be a possibility for me! hmmm will have to think about that one.
I don't want to find out the flavour, mostly so I can enjoy my pregnancy regardless - the pressure from others to have a girl this time round is intense.
Not many fun surprises to keep so I'm happy to keep this one for another 6 months or so

I am 18weeks or so, and I havnt felt anything yet... its quite exciting, the antisipation. My scan is not for two weeks on Wednesday, so still quite a wait for me. That's great news that the spotting has stopped Bubbaloo - what a huge relief that must be! And awesome that bubs has moved to a more comfortable position for you

I feel light little fluttery movements but nothing prominent or obvious - I'm still at that 'oh was that baby moving?' stage lol

Lovedup hope the relationship stuff starts to get easier for you soon and yay for finding somewhere that does 4d scans sounds like a good package.

Not much to update haven't had anymore spotting so hopefully that was just a random one of thing bubs is moving heaps now and has given me a couple of decent kicks already but have noticed the last day or so the area of the kicks have moved up a bit which is fantastic as I'm not so uncomfortable anymore.

Hi Melissa, welcome aboard! I'm new to this thread, but have enjoyed having other ideas and guidance on things.

thmprs that's so exciting that you get to be hapu with your SIL! You have to post some Christmas preggy shots now hehe

And bubaloo and mumtomany - your babies will have at least one cousin close in age too :-)

Yay to the bigger house! Far out, our house seems to big for all of us. Mind you if I had a skip I would throw so much of this crap out. Seriously need to get onto spring cleaning... might have a garage sale too and whatever doesn't sell I'll donate to the Sallys.

I'm still struggling with the relationship stuff, which has it's upside -> I don't obsess as much as i would over my pregnancy - e.g. not feeling preggers, not feeling movements - feeling completely unpregnant etc! Night time is the worst though... I get super lonely and super sad, hormones don't help either!

On a lighter note, I've found a place in Hamilton that does $100 4d scans at 28 weeks with a little book thing, dvd, pictures and a framed photo. I'm stoked. I asked about booking an appointment and she said I can book 2 days ahead (lol) so since it's 11 weeks away I better just wait on hehe.

'Accidentally' looked at some baby clothes on a website I was looking at last night. And I realised I might reconfirm what sex the baby is... I was told baby looked like he had boy bits but she couldn't guarantee it... but I might just leave it and go with the idea that it's another boy so I can prep myself for FOUR boys!

THUMPRS when I was Pregnant with son my brother and his wife became pregnant after us and there is 9 weeks between them. It's a pity we live in different islands though because they get on really well. I never needed to used them as shields, I just popped one in my bra when feeding from the opposite boob to collect the leakage to save my clothes/ and from washing so many breastpads!

Milk collectors I have never heard of these but think I should start investigating. Especially since I go back to work defiantly need these when it feeding time & I had major leakage. Plus while feeding would be awesome.

Where they expensive?

Just found out my SIL is jut preggers so our babies will only be about 10-12 weeks apart.. exciting at Christmas we can get belly shots together. lol

I used those Avent one to. And they actully also help heal cracked nipples super fast because it allows air to get around them. My last baby is the only one i have no feed problems with and the only baby i have used the avent milk collectors with. I swear by them
