I can't help (not pregnant) but for anyone considering it, next time I'm going to be actively looking for a student of some kind to be at the birth. We gave ours the camera, and the photos she took are so precious to me. Not the kind I'll ever show to more than a select few people, but I'm just so glad that we got them.

    Author: MummaHuhu
Subject: 42182
Posted: 10 June 2012 at 12:56pm

Kia ora,

I’m currently in my first year of training to become a qualified Childbirth Educator and plan to offer antenatal classes locally at the completion of my study.

As part of my learning experiences I need to support and observe women/couples/whanau through their pregnancy and birth. I am looking for willing women/couples/whanau who would allow me to be a part of this special time.

Preferably you would be planning to birth locally or planning a homebirth (in Thames, Waihi, Waihi Beach, Paeroa, Te Aroha, Ngatea, Whangamata, Katikati, Morrinsville, etc).

I’m married and I have been blessed with two children and currently living in Paeroa. I am actively involved in the local Playcentre and have in the past run the local Plunket coffee group. I have always felt a need to help people and I hope that by becoming a Childbirth Educator I can help parents to have a positive, empowering birth experience.

As a student, being able to support you and your family will allow me to gain experience supporting parents expectations, values and choices that each woman/couple make. It will also deepen my understanding of the childbearing process.

There is a requirement to do two visits during pregnancy, two visits postnatally and to be present at the birth. My support role would be negotiated with you, it could be ‘hands-on’ or purely observational from the head of the bed (or further in the background). Most couples find it quite handy to have another pair of hands to fetch drinks, ice, heat packs, etc which I'm excellent at

I am happy to meet up with you and have a chat before any decision is made. Feel free to contact me for more details and how to get to know me better.
Kyra — You can PM me or email kyra.cbe@gmail.com

Edited by kyromaniac
