How far through is he? and where about are you looking at moving to?

In terms of moving cities etc, yep that will be hard as well, will be lonely with a new born in a town where you don't know people but can see why you would be thinking about doing it. Good luck and good luck to DH with all the study and hours to get up.

Something extra on the side as you didn't ask about this but... An idea which I am sure he has already been looking into etc is to try to get work (even if it is washing the planes) at a scenic flight company, in hope that once he is fully qualified they will be able to offer him some work to help get his hours up for the commercial work.

It was a few years ago now so can't remember all the details about how we managed to get through. But we did cope. We had a wee bit of savings which helped at first but also meant we didn't qualify for an accommodation supplement. By the second year the savings were gone & basically we just lived on a very tight budget. Our toughest time was when the allowance stopped & we survived for a short time on student loan only. We were very lucky that the grandparents would totally spoil DD & brought most of her clothes. What kept me going was thinking it will all be ok once DH gets a job - and it was. But after going without so many things for the previous two years it took us quite a while to catch up again.
Looking back it was totally worth the sacrifices, it wasn't easy at times but wasn't impossible.

Edited by ToniF

Would it be more expensive to live in the new location?
I worked nights and weekends while I was training and it took a long time, I think funding has changed since my day and you need to do a full time course to get the loan.
Unfortunately it is the kind of industry where you need to be willing to move for a job so be prepared to move if needed. I had to spend a few years in Australia as there are so many more jobs there when you are starting out.
I think you can make it work, if he studies full time he will be qualified sooner and be able to get a job. Good luck

Plus I can't work without my DH being in town, he looks after our DD while I'm at work, I work nights and early mornings, so can't put her into daycare, so not an option for myself + DD to stay here.

Am I completly mad to suggest we move cities with a toddler and a NB, neither of us with any income and DH studying? Sounds impossible, am I right?

BUT I really want him to complete his study and fulfill his dreams. Ideally he would complete it locally, (thinking out loud), I might try to convince him to look into this!

TIA
