Not sure if that affected how long it took me to get pregnant afterwards (4 weeks) or not.

I also got sent home after the m/c was confirmed to decide whether I wanted the d and c or to let things go naturally, but they advised me that a d and c would ensure everything came away, reduce the risk of infection and make it EASIER for me to get preg than if I waited for it to come away naturally. We chose to have the d and c after a couple of days because things weren't progressing on their own. Its not urgent surgery unless there is a risk of haemorrage so I guess they could send someone away and tell them to come back?

We were able to go away to think aobut it and then come back. We chose to have it done straight away.

They used scraping with me and we weren't told about the possibility of any problems conceiving, I have honestly never heard of that. We conceived around 5 months later.

Life is hard enough without people making it more difficult. I wish your friend lonts of luck!!

They would have to scrape to get everything off (arrgh sorry i know that all sounds horrible)
I was sent away. Went in for a scan and the twins were to small, had to wait a week for another scan to confirm they had stopped developing and then was asked if i wanted to go naturally or have a d & c which I chose so was told to come back in two days to have it done. When i got there heaps were lined up for them, I think they do like a clinic or something certain days of the week.
I certainly dont think it would prevent your friend from getting pregnant. We tried straight away and didnt get preggie then I went back on the pill for a few months and that seemed to settle things down and I got preggie straight away. I know another lady who had one done about a month after me and she still isnt pregnant again even though they have been trying since.

    Author: mummy_becks
Subject: 4267
Posted: 30 October 2006 at 1:02pm

Ok this has come from a friend of mine as she knows i'm on a forum that has heaps of very helpful ladies on it that know all sorts of info. So this is the story....

On Friday i got a call from my friend (K) who asked if the procedure for this had changed. I passed one the question as I had no idea then her friend (H) got on the phone and explained to me what had happened. (my friend K, her friend H and the girl who has caused problems L, who has just had a miscarriage) just to make sense.

H had a miscarriage last year in Feb and had a D'n'C straight away - taken straight into theatre and knocked out to have it. H has a 4 almost 5 year old child and has been trying to have number 2 for years and was told by L that the reason she can't fall pregnant again is because they were probably really rough with her during the D'n'C in Feb and that they used a metal scrapper to take everything out and they have probably taken away the lining to be able to get pregnant again. Now (still L talking) they use a small tube and it sucks everything out and no scrapping is done so therefore making it easier to get pregnant again after having it done. I was like WTF!?!?! as when I had my first endo op I also had the D'n'C procedure done as a hystroscopy (and was scrapped as the surgeon told me she did some scrapping) and I mananged to get pregnant after I had it done and once again now. H was really upset about what she said as she has been trying now for number 2 for 3 years now and to be told what we think is rubbish has really hurt her. L went on to say that she had just miscarried (2 weeks ago) and that she couldn't have a D'n'C done at Palmy hospital as they were so busy (the day she had a scan and they couldn't find a heartbeat) and sent her away to come back on Monday (labour day) to have it done, she didn't go back and they rung her on Tuesday to have it done and she went in and they sent her away as they were again too busy. I thought that was wrong, as if you needed a D'n'C done they would do it straight away and if you wanted it to come out naturally then they would allow you to do it. L said that they (the hospital) wanted her to have a D'n'C and she wanted it as well.

So my questions to this story:

Does anyone know what they use (instruments) for a D'n'C?

Do hosptials do a D'n'C straight away if needed - and not send woman away as they are "too busy"?

I know this is quite a sensitive topic as I know many on here have had MC's before but to put H's mind as ease I would like to be able to tell her that L is so wrong, or maybe right

H is still trying for number 2, she asked if anyone had any ideas on why she may not be getting pregnant - I have suggested charting to see if she is actually ovulating and to get checked out for endo and PSOC. Anything else I may have missed???
