After many years of unexplained infertility we tried Clomid then 4x rounds of IUI before becoming pregnant with our gorgeous wee son on our 1st round of IVF. I then staggeringly become pregnant naturally when our son was 7mths and we are being blessed with another boy. I'd love to join the private thread and/or the Facebook page if possible. Is anyone able to please add me? Thanks. :)

By September i ll probably be "well trained" for night feeding:-)

Great that you are feelling well. This is my 3rd pregnancy and i never had much issues, but this time i have lots of varicouse vains. They run in my side of family....and my midwife s just refered me for an assessment at the hospital. The veins are not too sore but so unsightly, so i m glad it s winter....and i m hoping i wont develop internal veins too. But on the other side, i m well and enjoying having quite a lot of energy.

I havent started preparing for the baby yet.... but today, my collegue dropped off a capsule and 2 bags of baby clothes that her baby s outgrown...so it all suddenly very real ....especially seing the carseat in the house! SHould go and sort out all the clothes and undust my son's baby clothes:-)
Take care everyone1

Edited by iceland - 04 June 2013 at 6:28pm

I have to say i ve given up on this thread but just today thought i ll go and check.
I ve never been a Facebook "fan", i dont have an FB account and dont want to create one, so I ve accepted that everyone s moved to Facebook it seems. It s a pity for this thread to stop....but maybe there's hope, maybe later, in the last months/weeks of our pregnancies, things might revive here... who knows:-)

Otherwise, hope that everyones pregnancies are going great and that the little bubbas are busy wriggling around, and everyone s well.
As to me, i m thrilled to be expecting a boy. I love feeling the baby move and watch my two other children (who are 4 and 6) being totally excited about having a baby brother on the way. They love feeling little kicks on my tummy and are just about on a count down on months untill the baby arrives. So sweet.

Well, take care everyone and maybe,
hear from you again,
iceland

Edited by iceland - 02 June 2013 at 3:39pm

Have been super busy and just caught up on posts. Nice to hear how everyone is getting on. I'm 17 weeks this week and finally starting to show - still could be mistaken for a big lunch though! I only just let everyone at my work know today. About three weeks ago we had another scare with some unexplained bleeding which was horrible, but after yet another day at A&E everything checked out so I guess it is just one of those things. Hopefully things will settle now I'm well into the second trimester. I'm consciously trying to take things a bit easier too as I think I was guilty of trying to keep working at the same hectic pace I was before I was pregnant. I keep thinking I'm feeling flutters but then they don't happen again for days so I think I'm just imagining it! Looking forward to feeling movement for real. Thanks to those who shared advice about cloth nappies, I really want to avoid disposables right from the start if I can so will try to get along to a nappy lady seminar. I still havent bought a single thing - it just doesnt feel real enough! i think after the 20 week scan when we find out whether we are having a girl or a boy it might finally start to sink in! Hope everyone's doing well.

I am quite tall and slight normally so it is quite obvious my tummy is now popping out. Lucky for her I am actually expecting!!

We also haven't purchased any baby stuff yet but have been given HEAPS already - both our Mum's have gone a bit crazy with the shopping so have so many newborn - 6 month clothes! Hubby's work colleague has also given us their mountain buggy and high chair (only used for one of their kids a few years ago and both are in awesome condition) so that was a pretty good score!

So excited about the 20 week scan and finding out whether our bubba is a pink or blue!!

Just shows that there is no one nappy that suits everyone. I've always been obsessive about re-sealing the Velcro tabs on my nappies so the velcros all look pretty much as good as new, even after over 2yrs of use. I also wonder how the cheap pockets will fit a newborn, don't think mine will, can't remember what age I started using them. The tots bots osfa can go pretty small though. And maybe ill partly use disposables for a few weeks. We will see I guess
I'm totally showing now, just since the weekend! I've even noticed my belly button is a bit shallower 18 weeks tomorrow!! Midwife appt on Tuesday so I guess after that I can pretty much book my scan for whenever, yay!

Has anyone done much baby shopping? I realized the other day that we haven't brought baby a single thing! Last time we were out buying baby stuff all the time, don't really feel the need to this time. Might get the baby clothes out in a few weeks though, after my scan, love looking over them hard to believe my big boy ever fitted them!

Funny that. This time roung i m intending to do cloth right from birth as i just cant stand to see the amount of disposables going into the bin daily.
I agree that it s much of a trial and error with nappies for best fit for baby. Personaly I prefer snap in options to pockets and for me i found Pop-in nappies brilliant. They are on the "more expensive end" but OSFA so from birth to potty and they are the best night time nappies to I think. With the night time booster (or just extra bamboo insert eg from peapods) , they really did lasted the whole night even on my daughter as a toddler right up to toilet training.
Well, thats my experience:-)
Hope everyone is doing fine and enjoying the 2nd trimestr!
Im just thinking those of you due at the beginning of the month, you ll be soon due for the anotomy scan, isnt it:-) exciting!
Take care!

My husband has always refused to use any of the nappies that have poppers on the waistband, he will only use the Velcro ones. The poppers are apparently too hard for big man hands to use and he just had too much trouble with them. So he would actually just not change a nappy if we didn't have any clean tots bots!! Lots of other brands have Velcro now too though I think.... I'm not sure if it was just an excuse though anyway.....

And modern cloth is totally no hassle and not at all gross. I mainly use tots bots (they do laybuy too I think) they are I think on the expensive side but they are bamboo so very absorbant and totally worth the extra money. Easy for daycare too cos they have Velcro waistbands and are pretty much just like disposables. But I've got lots of others too, the pockets you can get off trade me super cheap are relatively good too, just not so absorbant so leakages were more likely. It was hard with such a skinny boy though, the cheaper ones often didn't have the best fit around the legs. Good to try out a few different brands though dos that's only my opinion....
Anyway, as of yesterday I only have one pair of jeans that fits :(!!! We were leaving to go out and nothing fitted, my 2yr old kept pulling out more pants saying 'are you going to be too fat for these ones too mummy?' So I just went on jeans west site again cos its too much hassle getting there and some of the jeans are only $20!! So I got a few, can't wait til they arrive cos I don't have a lot to wear as most of my old preggy clothes are still a lil big.
Anyone else having flutters yet?
Hope you have all had a good Easter break :) so glad I'm STILL off chocolate so no pig outs here!!

And with the new cloth ones it seems so much easier than the bit white triangle from our day of being babies!

Had a good headache yesterday and today, yay, so fun waking up with a headache. Not! Our little dog absolutely cracked us up tho, walked into the lounge with a panadol box in his mouth that he's liberatd from my handbag! Hilarious lol

Re: maternity clothes and weight.. I've got maternity jeans and a skirt for work so far, plus a few tops/tunics/merino dress for winter but haven't had to use them at all. Just pants for work is a problem! I've put on 2-3kg. Before getting pregnant last year my normal weight was 61-62kg. Then while pregnant and after the MC I lost weight, down to 57.6 was my lowest I think, so just back up to 60 now, so not too worried

Hope everyone is having a lovely long wknd!

However, since Im a shorty they ordered me a pair of the short ones from Australia. I DID have to pay in AU dollars but then they did the conversion and I only paid the remainder for the pair in store - so I still got the 2 for 109 even thought it meant one pair was like 85 bucks... I only paid 20 for the ones I got in store... does that make sense? The pair from Aus came super fast too. :) Very happy with them so far!

    Author: Cupcake23
Subject: 42905
Posted: 28 March 2013 at 12:36pm

Hi everyone, I'm 17wks tomorrow! Felt the first flutters with my son at 17wks, so this bub was almost 2wks earlier :)

Oh thanks got the heads up on the coloured jeans Tui good, will have to try and make it over there this weekend cos I got told in the store a few weeks ago that when you order online you have to pay in AUD!? I was complaining that I couldn't seem to change the currency, but the prices in AUD are the same as the prices in NZ stores so after the currency conversion you end up paying more than you would by going into the store. Hoping she just didn't know what she was talking about....
If you need any advice on cloth nappies I've been using them since our boy was 4mths and I've tried tonnes of different brands :) although I probably haven't brought any in over 2yrs now and there's lotsa new ones out there. Pretty cool to think I won't have to spend any money on nappies this time round, got a pretty good stash :) might splash out on some 'pretty' ones if we have a girl though....

So disliking just looking heavy at the moment, can't wait to actually look pregnant. How much weight has everyone put on so far? I got out the scales but when I weighed myself in the hall (wood laminate floorboards) had put on 4kg so I took them to the bathroom (tiles) cos I was sure that wasn't right and in there I had only put on 2kg so then just for fun I tried them on the carpet and only weighed 45kg! So I'm not sure which is right (guessing the 2kg?)... Very sure on the carpet wasnt right cos there is no way I've lost weight!!

So now we are surrounded by mud instead of dust
I did a Facebook announcement, mainly for extended family and friends that we hardly see, told everyone important either to their faces or email/Skype for the ones that aren't local. Got our 2yr old to pose for a pretty cool photo for the announcement so that was fun

Oh it sucks being sick when you're pregnant! I don't know of anything you can take while pregnant, I'm the overly cautious type though! Your midwife might know of something. I just drank hot lemon honey drinks while preggers with my son, mostly cos they are yummy though good luck for your scan on Friday!

Felt flutters for the first time yesterday!! I'd had a really sore tummy so it was pretty relieving! And so exciting!

So I think we have come up with a plan for finding out/not finding out the sex... Get the person doing the scan to write the sex on a piece of paper and put it in a envelope (without telling either of us) and then my husband reckons that if we stick it on the fridge I will open it within 3 days-haha which just gives me more determination not to! It's a pretty amazing experience huh, I'm such a dork always end up crying a lil!
Thanks for your tips about the jeans kalika, I didn't know you could get them at just jeans too. Last time I pretty much just wore pumpkin patch cos I didn't really know what was out there. This time around though I can definitely see the benefits in those ugly big stretchy bands.... There was no way I would even look at anything with those last time but I got huge (and still refused that kind of thing!) and towards the end I always had the buttons digging in, even breaking skin and I had to start wearing a long singlet tucked in all the time cos your tops start hanging off your bump and I was really scared of showing the bottom of my tummy cos that looks hory. And then in my last weeks (and the extra 10days, naughty bubba!) I started popping the buttons on everything....
So I guess that band would stop the risk of the bottom of your tum being on show, and no digging buttons.... Button and fly looks cooler though
Anyway, just my experience
Just in case there are any left that will fit any of you, belly beyond is having a sale and I got 2 hotmilk bras and a hotmilk breast feeding top all for only $10 each this morning! Don't think there is a lot though so good luck, hotmilk bras are so good and still cute and sexy, totally love them!

I had my 12 wk scan on Wednesday and I was blown away.. I haven't been overly excited about the pregnancy just in case it all went wrong again, and I had mentally prepared myself for bad news. Coping mechanisms I guess!

So when the ultrasound straight away showed a feisty little kicking, punching baby I was amazed! Speechless even lol I definitely feel like I can relax a bit now, just a bit

RE jeans.. I went and bought some maternity jeans yesterday and liked the Just Jeans ones best over the Jeans West ones. The JJ ones have little stretchy panels and still have a dome, zip and belt loops whereas the JW ones have no dome or zip, just pull up and down and have the big stretchy belly band, BUT they only have them in 'long' in the Riccarton mall store which was so dumb! Anyway Just Jeans were my pick. Just FYI for anyone due to go shopping

Thanks for the tip about Jeans West maternity jeans, I bought some today and OMG they are so comfy! I never want to go back! I am 12 weeks 4 days today, had my scan on Tuesday. It was awesome to see baby, especially because s/he was very wriggly, and seeing movement was incredible! But also annoying as it took the sonographer ages to get the measurements she needed. I think the fatigue and nausea is finally starting to go, touch wood. I was feeling really amazing the other day until I realised, actually, I was just feeling normal, it's just been so long I'd forgotten what it felt like. Anyway hope everyone's doing ok, nearly through the worst!

Not everyone around here is surrounded by dirt like us! They've all just got ugly brown grass we'll get there eventually...
Wish I had a pregnant glow, I got bad skin instead!
Good luck with your scan Tui Good
When I was at my scan the lady said my dates were all good but then when I saw my midwife she said the results said baby was ahead 5days but they only change the dates if its +/- 7days or more so my dates don't change, weird. Hopefully I don't end up with a baby who is 10 days late this time then because it would really be 15....

I know they have a few weekend ones but they do charge for them so we decided Monday evening would work for us even if my partner is a few minutes late to some.

When I spoke to them yesterday they did say they are having major IT problems at the moment but should be fully up & running again by tomorrow.

I'm not sure if Jody has a webpage, I dont think she does. I only know her through playing softball and she always helps my friend who has back problems. I know she specialises in the maternity/family side of things as I was doing up some new logo designs for her but then I had to have surgery on my shoulder and they never went anywhere, I should see if she wants to rehatch those.

I cant wait for the flutters and even our first sonogram, I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and seeing all the other September mom's who are due easrly September makes me pretty excited for whats to come. I've started to have less of the MS but it really depends on how much and what I eat. Still finding the right balance of what will leave me & the hormones in a happy place.

    Author: kalika
Subject: 42905
Posted: 08 March 2013 at 10:06pm

Hi all, sorry for being a bit absent! So I went to meet the midwife, and she was 'ok'. I didn't feel I really clicked with her. Talking to my workmate (who knows about the pregnancy) afterwards and it turns out he and his wife had her as their LMC for their last baby just born in Sept last year and they felt the same, she was adequate, did what she needed to do, filled in the forms, but wasn't fab. So I asked if my GP was able to be my LMC and she can't so I'm going to look for another MW. I feel a bit rubbish shopping around (as I have quite strong loyalties) but I know this is a big thing. She said 11 weeks was too early for the doppler too

Anyone wanting an invite to the FB group PM me with your full email address

Re homebirth: I haven't spoken to anyone specifically, but a girl I was friends with in intermediate had a homebirth in Tasmania, in primitive conditions ie no power (she lives a bit like a hippy) assuming everything was ok, her mother told my father the story. I have no opinion really as I know nothing about birth at all lol (after from it looks intense!!)

I haven't had ligament pain, but have a recurring sore muscle in my right bum cheek, very odd! My yoga instructor gave me an exercise to do with a tennis ball - looks very weird, hubby made sure to mention that

What else is happening with everyone?

Edited by kalika - 08 March 2013 at 10:07pm

I'm sure she has done her research, I was so surprised because midwives are NOT the done thing in Canada. There are so few of them and it's just not like here in NZ! I'm sure she will be super prepared and all will go fine - thank you for your positive stories!!!

Iceland I saw an OB today and asked her about hearing the heartbeat with a doppler at 9 weeks and she said it was pretty unusual in a singleton pregnancy so I wouldn't worry one little bit!

I had my 2 children on Waiheke island.... There its a bit different scanario as the choice is home or catch the ferry in labour over to the city (unless its an emergency helicopter)....so the rate of homebirths is quite hight there and the midwifes are well know and experienced.
and i cant remember ever hearing bad scenarios from people on the island.
I was very lucky to have very easy births each time (hope it stays this way ....), so i m probably bit relaxed about it all.

I think if your friend does her research, has confidence in her midwife, has no obvious risks and is aware of her distance to a hospital in case she does need to transfer.... she ll be able to make her decision and be happy and confident with her choise. I think that s very imporstant.
Im bit of a "hospital phobic" so i do understand your friends point of view and on the other hand i so do understand how you feel too, Mon
Hope all will go well for your friend and follows the plan .... whatever plan it ll be in the end.

Edited by iceland - 07 March 2013 at 1:45pm

And I have to birth at the hospital because of my c-sec last time so it's nothing I've even thought about. I think she would be better off knowing all the facts though, but she might have done her own research aswell? At the end of the day it's her decision though.... Hopefully it all goes to plan!

I spent all of yesterday thinking it was Thursday, major disappointment when I realized it was only Wednesday! So I'm not 14wks until tomorrow (again!) and today isn't my day off :(
I'm still having trouble with food, although its not so bad. I have to eat all the time but actually finding something to eat that wont gross me out is tiring! Nausea has eased quite a lot too. I have a friend who is 20wks with her 1st and still having serious nausea constantly, poor thing!

    Author: mon2011
Subject: 42905
Posted: 06 March 2013 at 10:23pm

Hey guys! I haven't been on here in ages so welcome to all the newbies and congrats on the good scan!
I had a skype with one of my best friends today - she's in Canada- and was met with such a dilemma. She is 6 30 weeks pregnant with number 1 and planning a homebirth. I am in NO WAY opposed to homebirths at all, BUT my personal experience with my son means i wouldn't' consider birthing anywhere other than a hospital. I was so torn, because I just want to support her and encourage her but my heart seriously stopped for a second out of fear for her too. There is no reason to think it will go anything but perfect, but if it were her second baby I woud feel so much better about it (I think). The trickier thing is there are no birthing centres there, she either does home birth or hospital, and the hospitals are not midwife friendly - it's a much more medical system.

SO, what I'm asking you guys, is what would you do? I didn't say much - I asked her lots of questions about her midwife and she talked me through their systems etc. but I really don't want to scare her so I don't want to say anything negative BUT... I still think it's a huge risk. I'm probably being a bit selfish, I think I want to know that she really is aware of the risks so that I feel like she is making a fully informed decision and I'll sleep better ...

Have any of you had homebirths for first babies or know someone who has? I know that in the "old days" it happened all the time but there are like 900 sides to that argument....

Sorry for the rant...
(photo share!?)

I'm a little the same, feel fatter and more bloated by the end of the day, or after a big lunch lol food is still not bothering me obviously! I'm strategically planning my work wardrobe to help hide any giveaway bump but I think I may have failed last week. Never mind, I keep managing to sidestep work drinks which is lucky, as I'm never one to turn down a wine (until now obviously)

My scan is next Wednesday, hoping all is well and will then tell my manager but want to hold off on telling the rest of my work mates till the last possible minute as I just don't want the attention. I'm still not convinced this pregnancy will run through.

Ps. my phone has stopped letting me post online at the mo - annoying!
