Hello my daughter turns one at the beginning of Feb and Im having the same problem, what to do, what to do !!
we also have 20 adults and about 10 kiddies, I thought I would have a picnic under the Kauri trees in our back yard and maybe put a gazebo up with some seating under that. Its going to be pretty low key just to celebrate our milestone of one year with our daughter.
The adults have offerd to bring a plate each of something, which has freed up the panic of what to make for everyone! and I can concentrate doing the cake, some club sandwiches and some nibbles and refreshments.

Lol,
2kg of savory sausages (1.5kg of which will be consumed by adults)
Sausage rolls (all consumed by adults)
Club sandwiches (adults again)
Savory muffins - for the kids (but the adults will eat them)
Crackers and dip / maybe a cheese platter
Fruit kebabs
pikelets (the kids seem to love em)
Cupcakes and cake.
Popcorn if there are older kids

At least, that's what I will be serving. At my twins first birthday I mainly catered for adults cos most of the kids were either 1 like mine or old enough to eat the same as the adults.

the only one i've been to had:
fairy bread
club sandwhiches (for the adults)
pizza cut into small bits
savouries & sausage rolls
rice crackers, chips, par boiled vege sticks (so not too crunchy) & dip & hummus
cheerios
cake which was lollycake about 3cm high and 3cm wide, shaped into a giant 1 iced with pink buttercream
and maybe a few other smaller things

Hi all!

Its our wee girls first birthday at the end of the month and I have approx 20 adults and 10 kids coming for afternoon tea. Some of the kids are little babies though so guess they wont be eating much! My question is for those that have done this before, what are some good (cheap!) ideas for afternoon tea? I want to cater for both adults and kids at the same time. It wont be your typical kids party - no games etc. Just family and close friends celebrating with us that we made it through the year!
