In case you've just read the article 'book me in' in the magazine/newsletter and are thinking I'd like to join a book club here's some more info not in the article:
Book discussion scheme (www.bds.org.nz) have a search to find book clubs wanting members across NZ. They also run a membership thing where they send you books for a fee.
The book council (www.bookcouncil.org.nz) advertises Reading groups which is where I found my book club. You can post a notice if you want to start a group or look for reading groups who want members. Our group in Wellington's Northern suburbs. So far we've managed to get our books from the library (max cost to reserve and get a book delivered to your local library is $2) but I haven't had to pay anything yet. So it doesn't have to be as expensive as buying a new book every month.
