I also have been thinking of starting to take vitamins especially now in the pandemic and with the whole flu season upon us. I have been googling to find out people's opinions on different brands and vitamin complexes. I decided to order a box of Garden of Life vitamins since they seemed to be really good judging by peoples reviews as well as they have a really attractive price point. I am still waiting on my shipping but I think that I will be happy with the effect they have on me. I hope that you guys are staying safe and healthy during this pandemic. I'll post my thoughts on the vitamins later

Edited by Jackson265393 - 19 October 2020 at 12:01pm

Don't think it will hurt to have a little extra though if you're already taking Elevit - if your baby is at risk of neural tube defects I think they prescribe you something like 5000 micrograms! Either way, you can't go wrong with what your GP/obstetricain/midwife prescribes

Just trusted her prescription/dosage (can tell you how much of each I take in the morning)

I also take fish oil because I always have, and I know it's good anyway. I take 2 capsules daily.

In between AF and OV I have been drinking raspberry leaf tea too, to help with uterine health and ease AF pains etc. I avoid it I after OV as there's some speculation it could be too "stimulating" for a weak womb, and I wouldn't want to take chances!!

If you feel you want to give yourself a boost though, go for a pregnancy supplement. Be careful with Blackmores Conceive Well Gold as it only has 500 micrograms of folic acid - definitely switch to something else like Elevit when you are actually pregnant, which has the 800 micrograms. I took the Blackmores Conceive Well Gold about 6 months before trying, then switched to Elevit once I conceived (well, actually a week before since I had a feeling that month would be THE ONE!). I didn't have any morning sickness, and that might be partly because of all the B vitamins I was getting from my supplements! Having said that, though, my mum didn't have morning sickness either so I kind of think it's mostly genetic!

Meh, that level is not going to hurt!

Dr said I could top up my iodine levels a little (table salt/iodised salt), as it is recommended in the first 3 months of pregnancy (got a prescription for that too!). Dr also got bloods done which included iron levels, I would assume that if they thought I needed to up my iron I would have been told/given a prescription for that too.

If you are already taking a multivitamin I guess you would just move to a prenatal one which contains folate, or go to the Dr, discuss everything, and get the stuff you need on prescription (and save $$ in the long run)
