I have Respisense monitors for the twins, they clip onto their nappies. If there is no movement (breathing movement) for 15 secs they vibrate to stimulate bubs to start breathing again, and if still no movement after another 15 secs they alarm.

They were both wearing them on our little expedition to Starship and the doctors and nurses all commented on how good they were. no, not worried at all about the cost...but having said that we will wait til sales (good old xmas sales!!!)...there are two on market by looks so will see which one goes on sale and snap it up...if not will get anyways...

I have an Angelcare one for Emma Rose, and it really gives me peace of mind to use it. If it's the cost you're worried about, I often see them for sale on TradeMe for a lot less than you pay in the shops -- although I got mine on sale at Baby Factory (apparently they get discounted there during the sales -- pays to ring and ask). It's been great -- only went off once but scared the crap out of us. It's helped me to stay away from checking on her a million times a night and just let her sleep. I think they're a good investment, and remember, you can always resell it and get some of your money back after you're done using it! :)

me too, i have the angel care one aswell and love it, i hated having to take it off Kobe and didnt till he moved into his big boys bed. the peice of mind is just fantastic. my dad brought us ours cos kobe was prem and it was the best present ever. I kind of figure if the technology is there and you can afford it then why wouldnt you. I absolutely agree it is the best thing I have ever bought. Ours went of when our son was 12 weeks old, he wasn't breathing and was blue until I literally picked him up and threw him on the bed. You never know if he would have woke up naturally and was just in a very very deep sleep but I sleep easier knowing that its there. I have an angelcare monitor,love it, and don't regret buying it. Alyssa had a problem with mucus while we were still in the hospital and had stopped breathing (i.e turning blue) for just a short time, but coming home and knowing our monitor would pick up on her if she stopped breathing was real piece of mind.

I have one and LOVE it!

Some babies are known for holding their breath when younger and this has been proven to be the leading cause of cot death so i have been told. Ella was 4 weeks old when hers went off i rushed into the room and woke her and she took in a massive breath! I thank god i have it coz i dont know if she would have started again or not but im not one to take chances! It took far to long to get her and there is noway i would lose her! I think those that have them love them. I just have a normal monitor and that is cos I'm lazy (I just turn it on in the night so I dont have to get up and check). Ok we are looking at getting an angel type monitor - with mats that give readings on bubs breathing etc..in case our bubs is premmie etc. and want to avoid CD and clares sad thread reminded me to ask about this....
Our antenatal midwife told us they were useless and wouldnt recommend them...
