It's been ages since I've been on here, but for those old timers, I thought you would like to know that Zephram Michael made his way into the world last Friday, 7lb 9oz. Had a bit of a hiccup with a stay in NICU after having an infection and becoming very dehydrated, but we are home now and getting to know each other. I had a little girl on 2 April. Her name is Kate at she weighed in at 3.91kgs. Unfortunately after 15 hours of contractions I never got passed 4cm and it turns out her head was slightly in an angle and was never properly engaged. We're not 100% sure what happened but the midwife did an internal and baby's heartrate dropped so I was taken in for an emergency c-section under general anasthetic. Not what we wanted as it meant neither of us were present for her birth, and df was left alone with her Wrapped In a towel For An Hour And a Half before I woke up. All a bit traumatic and we have some serious questions about some of the things that were done but she is healthy and things have been pretty good since then. She is gorgeous and we both adore her.
How you are all well? Oh regarding the scan question we had a dating scan at 7 weeks, the nt scan at 12 weeks, the anatomy scan at 20 weeks and a growth scan at 37 weeks when we found out she was breech. The only scan that is standard is the 20 week scan. Some midwives won't send you for a dating scan, the nt is optional and you rarely get scans after that unless there are any issues or questions about size etc. Unless you have an obstetrician and then I think they scan you at every visit. Incidentally we'll be using an obs for our next baby And Having An Elective csection. I don't want to go through what we went through again.

Shame you have to wait until 9 weeks, I thought the standard was a 7 week scan and a 12 week scan. Also curious as you mention you're still having hcg blood tests do you know how long they monitor the hcg rise for? Apart from a few when I was first pregnant I haven't been told to have any more.

Normally you have a first scan at 12 weeks, if you have not had any problems before. Sometimes they do a dating scan if you are unsure of your dates.

Baby V - Congrats on the baby boy! So happy to hear it's going well.

Jessaroo - Yay for boys! Looking forward to welcoming my wee boy in May.

Porterlou - Not long now! Eeeee! I hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Vineyard - how are you going?

AFM - all well here. I have just hit the third trimester. Little boy is fully active. I am able to tell how he is lying now by feel and kicks. I am loving all the kick action but sometimes it is now hard to get to sleep. Last night I thought something was wrong as he was kicking up such a storm it felt like he might be in trouble or having a seizure or something! Lol. He seems fine today - still as active but it seems okay to me. Soon he'll be too big to move as much in there so I'll enjoy it while I can.

    Author: Baby V
Subject: 43688
Posted: 02 March 2014 at 1:30pm

Hi ladies!

Posted in my due in thread, so thought I'd update you all here as well!

Exciting news from my end is that our darling son arrived 2 weeks early on Wednesday morning 26 Feb at 12.25 am, 7 pounds 8 ounces and 55.5cm long. I am a second time mum (DS #1 is 11 years old) and this labour was almost identical to the first one! They were both born on 39 weeks exactly (according to my LMP calculations, rather than the scan which had EDD at 10 March so 2 weeks early, and they were even born 11 minutes apart! It's just uncanny I had the bloody show first thing in the morning on the 25th and LO was born just after midnight. No drugs in the end as my active labour was only 3.5 hours long. Water broke around 9pm which was a new experience since they had to break it for me with DS #1. Felt like a mattress spring flicking if that makes sense, such a weird sensation.

Since the birth things have been going well, up until last night when my milk came in. I tend to have issues with oversupply and engorgement and sure enough it's happening again. But we are working on sorting through anything that arises and LO is healthy and happy (other then when he couldn't get any milk out last night, then he screamed blue murder ).

Btw I am loving eating ham sandwiches again, DH has been making them for me everyday, love him

Hope everyone is doing well.

Gotta run, DS #2 should be awake any minute now xox
I actually ended up having a scan at 17 weeks following some bleeding and cramping and they told me then I was having a wee man but wanted to wait to see it twice (anatomy scan) before really doing any shopping!

Hope you've managed to get the lip and tongue tie sorted.

How is everyone else getting on? Sorry I've been awol, I've had a couple of rough weeks at work, my role has been disestablished so I'm dealing with the fall out of that - I'm in a pretty good headspace but its been a bit tiring and stressful. I didn't realise that I was affected as much as I was, I had quite high blood pressure when I had a check up with my midwife on Friday, which isn't good when its been pretty much perfect the whole way through. She came around again on Saturday and checked it again, though, and it all looks good, so thats a relief.

Not long to go now, my ticker says "29 days". What the heck!! I've got 7 days left at work (but who's counting, aye?). We've had the first arrival of our antenatal class, and our due in thread is going to start collecting babies this week I think (scheduled inductions etc). Honestly can't believe how fast the time has gone! Hope you're all keeping well and staying cool and comfortable. xx

I don't 'fit' in this thread anymore but I often think about you all and wonder how you are getting on. Anyway. .. keep posting! It's awesome to hear about your progress and get some inspiration.

Afm, I have a specialist apt in a few weeks to try and see if there is anything they can do to help me carry past 7 weeks. At least the ball is rolling. All the best to you beautiful ladies!

Tan, I'm amazed at you, going camping! I'm not even brave enough to go when I'm not pregnant, let alone now. Glad you had a good time.

congrats Kalika on the baby, Kumeroa, how are you getting on?

Hi to everyone else!

We don't know what we're having, I wanted to keep it a surprise so DF didn't really have a choice. I told him if we have another, he can choose if we find out or not, although he's quite happy not knowing, it seems. We also have no idea about names, have one potential girl name but thats it. We are going to wait until baby comes out and then find something that fits, so ours will probably have no name for a few days as well!

I'm doing pretty good, have hit the single digit week countdown which is quite scary. We have so much to do still. We have all the big stuff purchased except for a buggy, and my sister has just given us her capsule since at 7 months its time her daughter went into a bigger seat (quite a timely trip north for us this past weekend). Bubs is a very busy and active baby, seemingly always moving around. I'm getting a few braxton hicks contractions now, which are weird, they seem to be getting more intense, although not painful so I know its just braxton hicks. A few other niggles but nothing too major, I'm doing pretty well I think.

Hope you're all well xx

I have had so much fun buying and receiving little boys' clothing and doing some knitting. It's been really nice thinking of him as a little boy already and at least this way we only have to consider names for one gender. I think having a surprise is fun too but I know that for us, we made the right decision to find out.

    Author: tan73
Subject: 43688
Posted: 12 January 2014 at 12:01pm

Wow! HI everyone! I haven't been on here for a long time. I mostly hang out in my due in thread on fb. I have also just had a lovely time away in Northland, camping, so no internet or phone coverage there.

The camping was a bit of a challenge - long drop toilet, bringing in own drinking water, so being careful with the tank water there for cooking and washing etc. Solar shower, and chilly bin food storage. Luckily we located a fridge which made life a bit easier for me. I was so paranoid about germs and food hygiene! Anyway, I started to relax by the end and really enjoyed it and then we came home! Hehe.

I have started nesting by getting out all the baby stuff I have bought from Trade Me or been given. I only have a few new bits and pieces. The rest, including the big ticket items are second hand. Although I really don't want to spend the money, there is something to be said for buying brand new! I have found second hand to be far less exciting, but DH and I have both agreed to buy as much as we can second hand as it all only lasts for such a short time.

Anyhoo, because I have managed to buy everything second hand, DH has agreed we can buy a change table new. It's a bit of a funny thing because out of everything we have, I would have thought this would be the thing we would definitely not buy new - they are so expensive and don't resell for very much, but they are one of those things that I would like to have to save my back and I need to check it out in person as I am quite tall. The only other thing we are intending on buying new is the car seat as we will have that for a while.

I still have minor freak outs with aches and pains etc, but I am learning more and more that these are normal, and it is so much easier now I can feel bubs moving around and kicking etc, which he does all the time.

Oh, and yes, we are having a boy! I was so happy. For some reason, I was convinced it was a girl. We got the sonographer to write it down in a card and we found out on Christmas Day, and she said something which made me think it was a girl. I cried when I found out as I think I really wanted a boy a little more than a girl. Just in case anyone else would like to do this idea...I got the card from the sonographer and I went to Pumpkin Patch. I chose a boy outfit and a girl outfit (same price) and asked the girl at the counter to look in the card and wrap the appropriate outfit while I was away doing something else. Then we opened it on Christmas Day. It was the coolest surprise ever! It works for Christmas, but I guess if you have a birthday or something you could do it for that. Or even just at a special dinner for the two of you, to find out. Well, I should stop now, lest this turn into an even bigger novel! Hope everyone is well. xx

I'm so happy to see you're well over halfway to meeting your own lovely bubba.

My midwife appt. went well, good blood pressure (I've had borderline high blood pressure with my previous 2 bubbas)and uterus/bubba growing well, feeling lots of kicks/rolls/wiggles.
She couldn't hear the heartbeat yet using a pinard (was only 19weeks) so I've got that to look forward to next appointment which isn't till 13th of feb thanks to Waitangi day falling on a Thursday this year (she only comes down this way once a week for antenatal appts.).

Lease does your ticker need updating? Its got you as 8 weeks not 12. And congratulations on the 12 week mark and same for getting over 13 weeks Jessaroo :) Sure makes it more real :)

Oh as for holidays, we're just about to leave tomorrow and will be gone for most of 3 weeks so really looking forward to that, a beach holiday followed by staying with and catching up with my family which I do twice a year as they're 4-5 hour drive away and I don't get to see them very often otherwise.
We were TTCing for about 2 1/2 years before falling pregnant so pretty exciting that we finally did. We were very lucky that we didn't need help, I was starting to think that maybe we might.

I hope we've got enough time to sort stuff out. I've kind of resigned myself to the fact that we probably won't be buying a house before bubs arrives (limited availability on the market), so thats probably one less thing on my mind. But we do need to buy a car (we live in the middle of the city, so until now haven't really needed one, and can borrow MILs if ever we've needed one), and can't sort the carseat until we've got the car, plus I'm a bit weary about which buggy to buy without knowing which car (and therefore how big the boot is). We do have a cot and a change table, though, so thats a good start. Its just the rest of the things really (clothes, etc).

Yeah as it is my first baby they aren't sure what my body can do so I think that is the reason. Its not an easy decision to make but we are talking a 5kg baby at full term so is a really decent size.
I didn't bother asking too much prior to 14 weeks as I didn't feel a real need to know if I ended up miscarrying but now its time to sort stuff out :)
Went camping and had a great time over the weekend!

When is induction date Kumeroa? I didn't realise they still induced for a (maybe) large baby when there's no other problems as inductions often cause more interventions and problems than they solve and most women birth big babies easily with no problems. Its hard to know if a baby will be big before they are born as scans are only right 50% of the time.
Big babies are nice and easy to birth, just try to stay as upright and moving as possible and gravity will help them out. My 2 were 9lb10 and 9lb1 (in that order) and I had no problem, birthing on hands and knees or upright helps prevent shoulder dystocia too as it gives room for the bones in your back to pop out while baby comes through :)

Yay for meeting MW and (hopefully) good blood results Lease. Too bad your hubby doesn't want to get checked, that would save a lot of extra injections for you if he's negative as well.

Ooooh Jessaroo that's so close now and with Christams in the middle that week or 2 will just fly past.
