I had #1 and #2 at Waitakere Hospital, #3 at Birthcare Parnell and plan to have #4 at Birthcare Parnell in about 6wks. Birthcare is so much nicer if you ask me, the rooms are nicer (I birthed there so got a private room), the food is better, the midwife attention was a heck of alot better.
If I didn't birth there though I wouldn't go, I couldn't justify the cost of paying to stay there. Hi magpieness,

If you birth at Auckland Hospital you get transferred there anyway (immediately after a normal delivery, or after 2 days if you have a c-section) . Your entitled to 3 nights, I found I was ready to go after 2. The benefit is the midwife-paitent ratio is much higher so they have more time to spend with you. Auckland Hospital was great but they are so busy dealing with sick mums & babies, if all is well with you, you just don't get seen much. So Birthcare is great for the breastfeeding support and basic things like learning how to bath your baby. Hi,
just wondering if anyone has experience with Birthcare (either Parnell or Warkworth) as well as just going home from hospital: trying to decide if it's really worth it to go into Birthcare for a few days before heading home.

From what I can gather from reading on the internet, and friends who've gone to birthcare, there isn't that much extra value that you wouldn't get anyway from hospital staff/midwife/plunket/ post-birth classes so is there anything else that makes birthcare so special?
