Yes you don't have yo go to a GP if you don't want. I'd really ask around regarding midwives as to what peoples experiences have been with different ones, also there is a good website, find a midwife I think it's called, will confirm that. Then ring up different ones to see if they are free when you're due and meet with them and ask them questions. You can go to a GP, who'll give you another test and confirm it - that should be free, all GP visits in the first 12 weeks are. They will give you info about midwives in the area.

Alternatively, you can do a google or look in the yellow pages, and skip the GP altogether. I've just found out that I'm pregnant with baby number 2 but I had my first one (now 2.5) in the UK so I'm completely clueless about what to do now. Do I go to a GP or .......? Any advice from people who know the NZ system would be appreciated.
