hmmm not sure about it now.Main goal was to give him a formula feed last thing to try get him to sleep longer. Was thinking because of his reflux etc it could work - bit more thicker in his tummy etc!!!!

As for allergies..I solely breastfed Paige. She never had any formulas and hardly had cows milk at all while she was toddler etc. I gave her homemade fruit and veges and meat until she was a year old...SHE STILL got mild asthma/exczema and HAYFEVER and develops a stupid cough if she eats too much dairy til this day! So who knows! I get asthma and have bad eczema so Blake will probably get some form of it anyway!

Yep, and the Pepti formulas are expensive, smell gross, and are not actually that good for them. We've got Mercedes having some Neocate feeds in addition to the expressed milk as she reacts to the dairy I eat, but Sienna is so far 100% on breastmilk.

Maya had a true milk protein allergy (as in potentially life threatening within minutes of contact) and was intolerant to soy (it upset her digestive system so she didn't absorb any nutrients).

I personally wouldn't use soy formula at all because like others have said it is harsh on the digestive system, and not as complete a food as the cows milk formulas.

It's also worth noting that only 5% of children do have "true" allergies, and only .5% of adults, so the majority of children that have allergies do outgrow them (Maya has outgrown everything except peanuts and sulphur). And that you should talk to your doctor before starting bubs on any alternative formula such as soy. A lot of parents exclude food groups from their babies diets uneccessarily, or mistake their babies symptoms for allergy/intolerance when in fact thats not the case.

Kelly - like the others have said SOy is a last resort and is not often recommended for under 6 months as it is harder to digest and on their wee tums.

Rach, if they can't have milk or soy then they have special hypoallergenic formulas like the pepti ones. You might not be able to tell about Kayla for sure until after you start introducing solids. Soya formula is really rough, it was the only real option left for us and its been hard for ella on it. Shes not filling up to well and is hungry really quickly after her feeds. I dont know but i think she may also be allergic to soya now aswell.

I would stick to the normal formula if i were you but remember that formula is heavier than breast milk and you may experience a few "rough" nights while he adjusts.

Can you express and feed him that in the night instead of popping the boob on him? Hey Kelly, the recommendation is for babies to be on a substantial solids diet before moving on to soy as it can make them quite ill and get allergies and deficiencies. I got this information from Roz the moderator at EBB.
But this is only knowledge and I think that if you are confident enough about him getting enough from your breastmilk then go for it. (I can't remember how old Blake is and the ticker is down!)
What about Goat formula, less reactions etc etc or even a formula with no lactose in it? I know Karicare does a really good range of "other" type of formula.

Hello all.

I am trying to decide whether to give Blake a night time only formula feed as I am getting sick of waking up and are thinking maybe this might settle him right down???
I have noticed that when I eat lots of cheese and milk etc the next day he has massive amounts of wind so kind of decided against the normal formulas.
Apparently this is common as nuts so Im not going down the road of Lactose intolerant blah blah.
