Grace (her great-grandmother) is Ella's middle name, and I call her Ella, Ella Grace, baby Grace, stinkerbella (when she's done a wopper in her nappy), chicken, darling girl, or sweet-pea.  The poor child!!!  But I always correct anyone else who gets her name wrong... so totally one-sided, eh! 

Lots of people put baby's middle names on things for them, especially older people.  And I know I usually put the child's first and middle name(s) on anything I give a newborn for some reason.  But I'd be really annoyed if my MIL wrote one middle name and not the other.  That's a strange thing to do.

I am totally anal about my kids names too (especially with all the drama I had over naming Sienna ). Maya's proper name is Maya Grace, and although I often call her just Maya (My-a)I like people to call her Maya Grace and when she gets cards etc. for them to have her proper name (her full name is Maya Grace Te Irirangi Marama Davis). My biggest pet hate is people that call her "My" - like Maya is such a long name! She also gets Mia a lot and May - a but she is starting to get grumpy about that and tell people off herself!

With the twins I am constantly getting asked why I spelt Sienna with 2 'n's , I have no idea, I just liked it that way! And I had someone tell me that I *should* have spelt Mercedes with a Z (Mercedez) SHOULD? Hello, my child, my naming rights! They have almost as many names as Maya (Sienna Marie Anahera Jayde and Mercedes Kailah Waimarie Faith).

lizzle= both were sent at least 2 weeks after he was born - I would of changed it but yeah I got over it now just I am pretty proud of my wee boy and his name and so want to see it wrote all the time...

Ann, maybe they had wrapped them to send before Rhyley was born and had a name? I know my SILs are/were pregnant and I had to go back and change one of the names when she was born - it was all wrapped and ready to go. I'm glad you pointed that out!! I always thought her name was Ha-leigh (like Halle Berry?) I didn't realise it was Hayley.

When we had Charlotte we told MIL her name over the phone- she then sent out an email to her family with her middle name spelt Olivier not Olivia! We had to field all these questions about why we had spelt it that way and even a few had read it wrong and thought we'd given our girl the middle name Oliver! omg thats so rude.
i used to hate it when i was younger and people always worte cards to our family saying to Dave, Steph and girls me and my sister have names and we used to get really annoyed, esp since we always sent cards with everyones names including childrens.
I get told that Haleighs name is ahrd to spell, and that it should be Hayleigh or hayley but we like it the way we spelt it. I feel for you guys. My 'grumble' is slightly different, you see SIL 1 sent christmas card to us with all our names on it but Rhyley she just called 'bubs' not his name so there was Dh name, mine Josh and Brooke and 'BUBS" , its not like she doesn't know his name! Then the other SIL sent parcel (she lives in Ireland) she always send all the family presents to us and we dish them out on christmas day anyway..... all presents had peoples names on but come to Rhyley's and what did it say??? Baby Coles (Coles is our surname) What is it with SIL"S I am rather peeved about it really but what can you do with out coming across as very petty. Both of them know his name and if they didn't know how it was spelt they could just ask.. I know we spelt his name slightly different.

I got REALLY peeved when MiL decided that Caitlyn Lillie looked nicer than "Caitlin Lilly" (her actual name) WTF?!??! who's baby is this?!?!?!

The reason why we spell Caitlin with an "lin" is because she is the first grandchild of this generation that doesn't have a DH's family name (and we prefered this spelling, not just out to annoy, I promise) and we spell Lilly with two Ls because she is named after my Mum (middle name is Lillian). I was SO angry with her and 2 days after having a day is definitely NOT the right time to start screwing around with your kids name! So I let her have it with both barrells! mwhahahaha

Roksana - doesn't it just make you feel like 'nothing' when they won't acknowledge the name of your child that has come from you???

Oh I have the same problem.....

Zaara's full name is Zaara Islam Maharaj....now Islam was my maiden surname.....but my MIL refuses to acknowledge that she has that middle name...so when ever people ask what her name is she says ...Zaara Maharaj.....I step in and say Zaara Islam Maharaj!!

Maybe you could just suggest to MIL that if she insists on using middle names then she should use all names correctly, if your going to do it do it properly. It somehow needs to be stressed to her. I think it's really rude. Either call her Amelia, or her full name with BOTH middle names!

I'd be so annoyed too but I can see it being a hard one to approach. DH needs to have a word with her maybe? Or it needs to somehow come up in convo and be corrected. I would be annoyed and I would correct her any time I hear her say it.   Prehaps get DH to have a word to her and let her know that her name is Amelia.

My SIL's name is Kerri and her dads side of the family all call her Kerri-Rose (Rose is her middle name). She is now 25 and they still do it.

As I lay in bed last night, unable to sleep, my mind ticking over about 1000's of things, the one thing that kept coming to annoy me was this ....

MIL sent us an xmas card the other day with DH, mine and then "Amelia Jade" written in it. Now Amelia is just Amelia, although she has TWO middle names - Jade & Selina (my name). When Amelia was born, MIL wrote the card 'welcome Amelia Jade'. She has asked outright if it's Amelia-Jade, and I said no, it's Amelia. What really peeves me off is that I feel like I'm non-existent in a way. That is, she acknowledges 2 of Amelia's names, but not the third, which is my name.
