Can't say I have heard of this before either. I've been debating the whole returning to work thing as my 12 months is up in February. I so don't know what to do. Don't think I will go back to my old job if I do as I only want to work part time. Child care is going to be another thing - the cost etc and if it is really worth going back to work. it doesnt have to be in a contract and the company does not have to offer this to you...in fact where they do offer to "top up" wages if you dont return or leave within a certain time there is often a repayment clause they will insist on...often these are sep contracts to your employment contract or merely a letter of conditions...they simply do not have to offer you anything except govt mat leave...nor do they have to offer a return to work incentive! sorry!

Don't feel too bad - I don't get an incentive either as part of my contract and I don't think there is any legislated benefit as such. I used to work for a pretty large company and I don't think they had any entitlements to entice us back from maternity leave, but the silver lining to being made redundant was the payout I got. Yeah I don't think it says anything of the sort in my contract either. The maternity leave section of the contract says 'refer to Act such and such' so I guess if there's no standard incentive, then there won't be any at all. I will ask my boss to look into it for me. She's expecting a resignation I think. Sucky company I work for. They need to sort out their HR dept.

I don't think I'll be returning even if they did have some incentive for me. Each company seems to be different with how/when they offer those sorts of things, if at all. Mine was 6 weeks pay on producing Amelia's birth certificate ... I went and sorted that before xmas and it helped buy a new bed, some plants for the garden and of course xmas pressies!

Anyway, you should find your contract out as it'll be in there if you are entitled to anything. My employer didn't offer anything like that (smallish company) but I know of a major bank that does - I THINK something like three months after you return. my work will pay me one months full salary after I have been back at work for 6 months (roll on march!).
There is nothing in employment legislation to make an employer pay/give you anything just for going back to work after maternity leave. I personally think the govt should pay you something as an incentive for returning to work and not claiming a benefit!

Sounds like you might need to check out the situation from your payroll person at work. Never herd that Kirst before, but you will need to check it out.   Ikeep debatin the work thing ,but cause I don't drive and we will lose more thne we gain it not worth it with 2 kiddies. Yip, Stacey is right, depends on your contract. We get one, but only after 12 months I think it is, and it is 14 weeks pay less what you got on maternity leave from the government.

Each workplace is different but HR have told me that if I return from maternity leave they will pay me 6 weeks worth of wages in a lump sum. (but I think there is some conditions that come with it)

My mum seems to think you get some sort of pay out from your employer when you return to your job from which you took maternity leave. Can anyone clarify, confirm or deny this???

Thanks I've applied for a part time job and mum reckons I should go back to my full time position for just a week so I can get this pay out. Only thing is, I would feel guilty about doing that and the reality is that we just cannot afford to wait unil June.
