Will apparently take about a month before we are seen. In the mean time I am going completely dairy and egg free, on top of the low acid diet. Initially for 2 weeks, then we will trial Isla off the Gaviscon for a few days.

Peace yep we are already finding Isla is feeding for a lot longer than she was. Shes still quite fussy, and arches her back, and comes off and cries during feeds, but its not so bad.

It did take time though.
Jess is right it can take up to 3 weeks to see the "full effects" of medication but that is the full effects, relief should be immediate.
Good luck with your appointment.

It is a wonderful feeling to know that you actually have a smiley baby, so big hugs girlie, you were a wonderful mum to begin with but it is nice to have that affirmation from your kid, right?
I had Olivia successfully on Gaviscon for 2.5 months before her symptoms started coming back again, this is because she over produces stomach acid, so she had to be moved onto Losec with the Gaviscon. She should have been on Losec much sooner to reduce further damage to her oesophagus and vocal tract. Please do make an appointment with your GP for a referral to a paediatrician.
Different drugs work differently for each kid, there are no ones that are the same or different. I know for sure that Olivia's reflux is structural where as there is also allergy related reflux as well. Both are treated quite differently.
All the best sugar!
Author: Kellz
Subject: 5753
Posted: 16 February 2007 at 2:08pm

Finally we have a reason why Isla has been so unsettled since birth.
Finally after 4 (pretty horrid) months of getting up to her up to 5 times a night, sometimes for hours on end because she just wouldnt settle,...after she was misdiagnosed as having colic,... taking her to Dr's and other health professionals only to be told she's healthy and Im do everything right,... me being scared to take her out in public because I cant settle her when she screams ( a stupid man told me to shut her up, in a cafe when she was 3 weeks old),.. constantly questioning my ability as a parent,... DH nearly losing his job and having to work 2 hours extra a day unpaid to try and keep it,..people questioning if I have PND,...me wondering if Im mad,...me feeling guilty that I am the reason she is unsettled ( a "friend" sugested this),...family and friends and others saying I should give up bf,...if my milk was "better" she wouldnt be unsettled,..me feeling guilty that I still am not enjoying being a Mum,...my relation with DH getting more and more strained,....

Finally,..thnaks to the lovely ladies at the Northshore Plunket Family centre who actually took the time to listen to everything I had to say about Isla's behaviour etc,...finally Isla has been diagnosed with Silent Reflux.

She began a trial of Gaviscon on Tues after me taking her back to the Dr just to get her checked out medically *again* to rule out anything being wrong, before we try other things. I told him that the plunket nurses (in auck, not the stupid ones I have here) thought she might have reflux.
She is now going 5 hours at night between feeds and not waking inbetween feeds at all ( this is like a miracle!), she has stayed asleep in her buggy and capsule after we have stopped ( has never done this before). She is much happier, her eyes look brighter,...my beautiful girl is no longer in pain.

A gigantic weight has been lifted of my shoulders. I now know for sure that I wasnt the reason she was so unsettled,..that I have been a good Mum,..that I did the right thing not giving up bf when I really really didnt want to,.. that my gut intinct that something was wrong was corrrect.
Finally my little girl can enjoy life,... and I can too.

Thanks for listening
