i got told that when they bite, take them off straight away and put them on the floor and tell them "no biting", after a minute or 2 try again and if they bite again, back on the floor. mikey bit me so hard once that it bled and got infected (ouch!), i did exactly that (after i'd screamed out loud with the pain) and he didn't bite again. every now and then he'd give a little half nibble and look at me to see what i would do and i'd take him off, he soon got the idea.

You've got some very good advice there. I just wanted to add that you'll need to teach him not to bite either way because if you put him onto formula, you'll have to watch the bottle teat. Okay will give you tips if you still want to Breastfeed to try and try to help you if you want to stop as well.

1. Watch him while he feeds. He actually have to change his mouth totally if he wants to bite. Break suction immidiatly and tell him we dont do biting.

2. If he is teething he will naturally want to feed more and start chewing so put some Bonjela on about 10 minutes before a feed.

3. If it is sore through out the feed your latch is most propably wrong. (yip they might change their latch once they have teeth.). Just break suction and position him differently.

4. Each time feed him in a different position it really helps.

5. While watching him and he bites and you cant break suction really quickly pull his head into your breast so his nose is blocked. He will let go almost instantaneously as he needs to breath through his nose. Take him off the boob and dont let him go back on for about 5 minutes.

He will really soon get the idea.

If you find that you really cant stand BF at all dont feel quilty or worried about it at all. Your relationship with your son is so much more important.

I cant really tell you how your breasts will feel afterwards if you quit cold turkey as I have never been through that at all.

But if you give it up gradually I cant see it being that sore at all.

Start with one feed. Give formula say the first feed of the day for 3 days. Then the next three days the last feed of the day.

So you giving it up gradually and then your breasts shouldnt get engorged.

If they do stand in the shower with warm water. Dont express as it will just stimilate more milk in the long run. Warm water will help.

Cold Cabage leafes and parsley will help as well.

Full sympathy to you chick! Thomas got me a beauty this afternoon, left two little teeth marks on my nipple He bit so hard that I thought he was going to bite the thing right off!!
I have been very sternly telling him NO and putting him down which he hates. Its not an intentional bite, more of a "Bite down legs up Ive got wind" kinda bite .....

Doesnt make for a very relaxed time ... Im always on edge now waiting for the next nip ...

well thanks ladies but Ive had a shocking day today . I feel sorry for poor Jaxon cos I accidently yell whn he bites cos he bites hard and it gives me  ashock. I have almost been in tears.

I will see how I go for the next day or so and might seriosly think about stoppig. I did say before I even had Jaxon that I would only breastfeed till 6 mths or until he got his first teeth which was 4 months.  I think I have done ok to come this far, lol.

Zaara didnt have any teeth till the 13th month but that didnt stop her from biting me and it hurt like hell but I use to take her off and say "Zaara NO...ochy mama" and then after few min would give it back...she learned fairly quickly!!

PS....6 teeth at 5 months??? wow.. Zaara has her 5th coming thru at 16 month. I agree with becks, it takes a few times, but he gets the picture. Take him off the breast straight away, and very firmly tell him NO. You don't have to give up the BF you just need to tell Jaxon that it is naughty when he does it. Heya,

Ok Im just wondering if I was to take Jaxon off breastfeeding (I dont want to but he is biting alot now that he has 6 teeth through, ouch!!)

how long does it take for boobies to get back to normal?? Do they shrink straight away??  Do you have to go through all that pain when your boobs fill up and get painful.

How does it work? What do your boobs do when you stop??

As I said I love Brestfeeding and would like to continue but I just dont know how bad Jaxon will get with the biting.

I love Breastfeeding because

1: It feels right and a great bonding feeling

2: So convienient and inexpensive

3: I can have 32 points on Weightwatchers, hehe

andI know he is doing well on breastmilk and having some solida at lunch time . Onl a small amount though.
