They would send you home with exercises to continue with as well, like focusing on a point on the wall and moving your head but not your eyes. Could be worth a try if you find it happens a lot as it is very incapacitating (much like a fractured foot! )

I kinda went with a "do anything!!!" attitude, I was so desperate. Anyway all he was able to do was prescribe some "motion sickness" meds of some sort. It helped a lot.

When I have BPV it's like someone puts me in a paper bag and shakes it all up. I get dizzy to the point where I throw up really suddenly, it all comes out of the blue and gradually subsides over a week. Apparently it does usually last a week. Just put that there to help you confirm if that's what you're getting. My doc said being exhausted or having a cold can help trigger BPV.

    Author: busymum
Subject: 5931
Posted: 01 March 2007 at 8:04am

Has anyone had this? How often? What did you do about it? Thanks

ETA: Now I have time to add a few more details...

I have BPV, it's now my third time in 4 years and it's awful! Out of the blue I just feel overwhelmed with sickening dizziness (to the point that I do, in fact, vomit) and it gets worse when I move my head or stay in the same position for a long time... go figure. Apparently people who get it often find it recurs and there's really nought that can be done - except that I went to the Doctor today for "anything!" and have been prescribed some meds to help ease the dizziness while the BPV runs it's course (about a week).

In the meantime I have my DH at home playing "nurse" (which he is so totally not impressed with) because just tilting my head to see Krystiana's latching brings on severe dizziness, let alone nappy changes and all the general stuff the other girls need. Add to that a big sense of tiredness - also the meds can cause drowziness - and I'm definitely calling it a sick day today.

Is there anyone else out there that has had this? I seem to be getting it about every 12-24 months, is that a lot? What doesn't help me is my Doc confirming my (DH's) guess that when I'm exhausted, I'm more susceptible to it. (Well gee, I don't purposely go out and exhaust myself!)

Edited by busymum
