afternoon all. well we just had our firs visit from plunket. Naomi is weighing 8lbs...
Doesent like her clothes & nappy changed, & Doesnt like bath time yet either...But has just started 2 smile. Started at the end of 4wks begining of 5wks......She'l be 6wks 2moro...basicly at 8.17pm if u wanna get it spot on...iv made an appointment on monday 4 her 6wk check then plunket is coming back on tuesday morning at 9am...

yes il say!!  congrats lisha!!....just a day after my brothers bday too!!

in my forum on treasures nov 07, naomi was the smallest baby. all the rest were 7,8 and 9 lbs somthing and yet she was dead on 7lbs...all the rest of the babies were bugger or slightly bigger!! lol

porcelina - cos there all used to seeing small babies and when they dont see new born babies for a while they tend to forget how small and tiny they are....I was given a pair of socks for naomi (while i was still preggy with her) and they fitted over my thumbs, and at the time i was saying "these wont fit my baby, they will be way to small" but i tell u this now = I take that back what i said cos they fit her small tiny feet....Also back then i hadent seen a new born baby up close in ages too - so hense why......I think your baby was abit bigger in size than naomi when born? yes/no? naomi was 7lbs...correct me IF im wrong tho lol....

Lisha, I seemed to be bigger than everyone else according to their pregnant belly pics, was convinced it was a 10lb baby .... but it was all waters (hence the huge trails through the hospital). hi all

MW called round this morning! Naomi weighed 3480g!! (up 180).. i got a fright when my mw checked naomi's reflexes..like she pulls her arms then lets her go....apparently thats how they do it.....Naomi did a big sick up of milk on me too earlier lol...plus wee'd on me...........looks like i got the whole package lol.....Speaking of packages...Farmers have got a sale on today 30% off including baby stuff. I went down this morning and bought another baby pouch cos i lost one of the prong clips on my other one, plus i got a baby gear bag too...I used my ASB true rewards points card instead of having to pay money....:) Anyhows Had a Good Birthday Yesterday....Went to Valentines for lunch, Naomi slept the whole time.Then Jono and i had dinner at my folks place with a chocolate cake (from valentines) for pudding...Its Raining today :( Least the rain stayed off yesterday during the day - rained at night but that didnt matter as much :)

Porcelina we kept her in her car seat during the funeral cos the  type of car seat we got can rock. she stired a couple of times but we gently rocked her car seat and she fell right back 2 sleep...As usual as she is at every other place she basicly slept right thru the whole thing -  hardly any crying at all....

Everyone couldnt get over the amount of hair shes got and her blond streaks too after the funeral at the morning tea....

Poor you Ev!!!

Those front packs are good aren't they Ferny, DH uses ours. I used one of my slings yesterday at the funeral and everyone was fascinated by it, nobody had seen anything like it. Use the front pack at the funeral, might keep her sleeping longer, luckily Ruby slept through the one we were at!

It was a really good memorial service, chocolate fish were passed around And lots of us went to a bar afterwards because he would of wanted everyone to have a beer, they even put a bar tab on. DH said lucky he had a baby or he would of got hammered! I had Ruby in the sling, thank goodness bars are smokefree now! I was laughing that she was a week old and already in a bar

Today I have been to work (gee it takes a long time to get out of the house!) to see everyone and hand my notice in and went to the supermarket for the odd thing, just put the capsule in a trolley but you can't fit many things around that So I feel like I have accomplished stuff, washing is on too. I had the mass haemoroids too, but they were nothing compared to what came after them - anal fissures OMG ouch!!!!! That was more painful than the labour, whateva u do, dont get them - i'm only just recovering now!!!!

Sorry gotta go, i'm on a computer at the library and my girl has just started screaming her head off help!!!

Porcelina - my aunty , well one of them, when naomi was born got me a box of goodies from rose buds...baby clothes all wrapped up in the form/shape of  rose buds...seems a shame to unroll them from the shape there in  as they look sooooo nice that way...did yours come in a box from rosebuds?? mine did...

im going to a funeral 2morro...  my partners nan passed away a few days ago

she had another stroke around naomi's due date 2nd nov. which is why i am glad naomi was delivered a week early..Otherwise my partner would have had his nan, me and naomi to worry about at the one time...

naomi is old enuff for her front pouch now that i bought from farmers during my pregnancy...she slept in it today on me for a good hour to an hour and a half or so

Ruby slipped a bit at first too nicolaann and gave me hickeys but she soon got the hang of it. My nipples are damn sore when she first latches on but I guess it's cos she's going great guns!

Here's something they never tell you .... I asked my MW this morning whether you should use one breast or take some off both to relieve the pressure. She said do one breast fully to prevent mastitis as it's the full drainage that helps flush things through and express off the other side a bit if you are feeling "lumpy". Ruby takes 2-3 goes to feed between burping but seems to get rid of the lumps quite well.

Hmm our secret .... we basically just don't let her sleep too long in the day time, 3 hours maximum though today we were trying to jig it up so that I could do a feed and stick her in the car to sleep so she'll be asleep for the funeral but she was up for a while last time so I dunno if that will work! Working around a baby is hard! I asked the MW when do they get a bit more awake and hang out for a while before going back to sleep and she said usually during the second week .... then after that feed she did just that to prove a point (threw a wobbly with a nipple shoved in her mouth, just wanted to be awake) Which is good as I want her awake for tummy time so she gets head control fairly early on.

DH's boss' wife has met Ruby and was appalled his work hadn't sent us anything so we got a parcel today from Babybuds, they send you clothes and bibs and things rolled up into roses, it's so pretty I don't want to unroll them! The message with them is so nice, I thought I would share it:

"Welcome baby Ruby. We cannot wait to meet you. Well done Mum and Dad! Hope you are all doing well. A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten and the future worth living for."

HI!!

Baby NEARLY has a name!! (We are so useles!! he he) We have chosen one now, but thought we would wait until tomorrow to tell everyone... just to make sure we feel its right for her!! It is nice calling her by a name!!

She is getting her day and night sorted slowely I think. Last night was the best night we have had. She is so so hungry at the moment. Feeding heaps, but once she settle, she seems to be sleeping quite well.

My nipples are much better. She was slipping a little, and thats why they were getting sore. I am now expressing, as my milk is coming in, and I'm so full she can't latch on. I have had a big talk to my MW (who was wonderfull) about Breast feeding. I had such a bad experience with Alex, that it has made me really anxious this time. So for now I am going to express, with one formula feed at night to get her through the night better, and then will decide if I am going to continue in a week or so. At the moment I don't know if I want to feed her. I appreciate all the goodness of breast milk etc, but it may not work out for me. Will wait and see!!

Hubby went to work yesterday, which was really bad timing, as day 3 hormones, and extreme tiredness, and sore full boobs (and too many visitors) made me one grump girl!! Feel better today though!!

I hope the funeral goes well for you today Porcelina!! Hi all

We had day and night muddled up too, but it seems to have righted itself somehow. We are now getting good 4-5 hour sleeps at night - yey!

My nipples were absolutely excrutiating for the first week or so, but have got no pain now. They were soooo bad that I can hardly believe they are better already. Anyssa is now about 4.4kgs so is definately enjoying her milk!

I had hell pizza with lots of toping you can't eat when preg. I think I actually moaned with pleasure at every mouthful! I wanted to post something about the pizza at the time, but thought it wouldn't be fair as most you you guys were still preg!

Bel I'm still having that "pressure" sort of feeling as well. Esp at the end of the day if I've been standing or walking a lot. The midwife checked the stitches today and said my keyhole is healing, so I might not need to be restitched (fingers crossed).

Looking forward to hearing the name Nicolaann!

Poor you Bel! I hope things heal up quickly!

I was a bit wary that the chilli lime chicken might go through into my milk but it wasn't too spicy so hopefully not (it does suck not having spicy stuff when I could in pregnancy - the tables have turned in that respect).

Breastfeeding itself is good for losing weight callalily, see how you go with that. A bit of exercise like getting out with bubs and feeding should do you wonders.

Ruby pooed on me yesterday! First time I've been pooed on by a baby so I've done quite well til now ... during my stint at Starship I got projectile baby spew on me once where I had to go get some scrubs to wear, and peed on because some stupid mother had left her baby in the emergency department in a nappy that had been on for goodness knows how long and I picked the kid up and the nappy leaked all over me Ruby overflowed while lying on her side feeding, all over me and the tripillow She kept going for about 5 minutes too, Mummy and Daddy saw the funny side and Daddy was actually quite impressed

The funeral is at 3:30 tomorrow, will have to try and get her feeds rigged up so she is asleep

hi,

i am here! finding the time to read and then not much to post.  Elliot has had a couple of unsettled nights which means mummy as only had 5 hours or less sleep. Think he has been a bit hot, and perhaps growing as he is feeding lots too.  Anywho i feel like a zombie! Roll on the weekend so DH can help me overnight!

Hugs to you porcelina about your friend and your rat - thats just so sad. But how 'in tune' are you to have taken little ruby to see him the night before he died. That was very special!

i too am LOVING the no restrictions on food! Although i am a bridesmaid on 5th jan i really could do with losing some kg's. am nervous about it though as i don't want it to affect my milk supply. I have heard of that happening to some girls that do the breasfeeding program on WW, which was what i was planning to do......  not really sure how to tackle it.

I know megan grace still has to deliver, but is there anyone else still to drop? 

ooh any auckland ladies want to meet up with our babies for a coffee sometime soon?

Luke slept 6 hours in one go last night, so we are all feeling a bit better today! Just been to midwife, as I have been getting quite bad aches 'down there' for the last few days. Feels like a lot of pressure only when I stand up really. She noticed there were a few knots caught in my stitches and so removed them, but am still quite sore. Will leave until tomorrow and ring her again.

I just went to the supermarket, the fridge now has camembert (even tho NZ stuff was ok), 2 pottles of garlic mussels and a donut with fresh cream in it. And for lunch a chilli and lime chicken, I'm so excited!

Ruby had her day and night muddled up too being born at night. But we are only letting her sleep 3 hours max between feeds during the day and it seems to be working, she slept for 5 hours straight 4am-9am and I was so stoked to get all that sleep in one go!!! She must of gone through a growth spurt earlier in the night though as she fed and fed and fed and I thought she was going to explode! It's nice not to be feeding for ridiculous amounts of time too now that the colostrum is gone which is thicker than milk so takes longer to come out.

Man those first few days are hard with no milk, I am so glad that we are over that (even with the sore boobs)!

Nicolaann your nipples will be better with the Lansinoh and you'll probably find you won't need it after every feed once your milk is in (milk = lubrication on nipples, hooray!) I have some ointment a midwife gave me for the haemorrhoids, it's much less sore now, I ended up taking panadol and ibuprofen for them and am not popping the pills as much now, the ibuprofen really helped. I didn't go to the toilet for 6 days though until they calmed down a bit so be prepared for that (and don't try and go if they are really sore, best to wait til you have to go!).

What is really cute is DH .... even in the middle of the night he says wake me up to change her before her feed so he feels like he is able to do something. Sometimes I spy on him via the baby monitor when he goes in to change her, this morning I heard "Hello, you rang for service?" haha!

One thing we did find is that her room is cooler than the rest of the house which is good in the day, we didn't know why she wasn't going down to sleep well and clever DH worked out the Safe T Sleep was probably a little cool after being against me feeding so now we get a hot water bottle and put it in when she comes out and it's warm half an hour later after a feed. Something to think about even though it's not winter.

Well our first night home went ok. Little miss has her day and night a bit mixed up, so she slept really well all day yesterday, and was quite awake during the night. I'm sure its because she was born late at night. She will settle in the next or 2 hopefully. I think when she wakes next Ill give her a bath and keep her up for a little while.

We have nearly decided on a name now.... by the end of the day I'm sure we will decide!!

Baby is feeding well, but my nipples are killing me. She is latching well, so not too sure why they are so sore, apart from getting a shock at being sucked on!! Just went and got some lansinoh cream for them, so that should help.

Porcelina I have a haemorrhoid too. Just bought some cream for that too. It's not too bad, but a bit uncomfy. Will ask my MW today when I see what I should do... if anything. The cream I got is supposed to numb, and help shrink... so hopefully it works!

Bel the pics are gorgeous!! I LOVE the strippy jumpsuit and hat!!

Ok, I might go and lay down for 5 mins... I'm sure baby will be awake soon, she has been asleep for 3 and a half hours (and been out in the car without knowing it!!)

I can put my wedding, engagement and eternity rings back on today

The only bad thing is my loss after the birth was getting much much less and not fresh but today it gushed enough fresh lochia to soak a pad I rang the midwife, she said if you are more active it can cause it to go fresh again (have been out and about yesterday and this morning) though there still could be a clot in there somewhere that is coming away I was thinking oh no not again!!! But it's handy to know that it can look like you are going backwards once you are more active. LOOK AT THE STRIPY HAT!!! I want one toooooooo!!! So cute!

It's been a sad few days, one of our rats died in the weekend. Yesterday DH's friend called to say come over and show him Ruby, he's pretty much the closest friend DH has here, he used to work with him as a saw doctor in his old job. Ruby was feeding fairly late past when he said to come over and DH said shall we not go and I thought it'd be easiest not to but for some reason I said no we'll go. So we went to show her off and he was gooing over her and his wife was too .... then while DH was out this morning his son in law called to say that he'd had a heart attack last night and died That was a huge shock, he was only in his mid 60s and had had some heart attacks in the past but was in pretty good shape. I am so glad we went over and he got to see Ruby. So this morning we were wandering around in shock (DH was out, I had to call his cell and tell him) while seeing the midwife and taking Ruby to the osteopath to check her over. It was our 1st wedding anniversary yesterday, but hard to find time to celebrate, eveything kinda fades in comparison to having this little boy here...

Luke is doing really well today, first day at home alone with mummy, and he is behaving. In fact it feels like he has been asleep most of the day! I have been enjoying the chance to rest. I think I am still recovering from the birth, so added to the tiredness, I need the rest!

Hey All.

Congrats to all the mums and new bubs - so exciting!

I'm still feeling all good, baby turned posterior last week, but seems to be back to its usual position now.
Baby is definitely running out of room and making more stretchmarks - but hey, its all worth it aye

Hi guys

Well we are all home now, and I am just about to have a sleep... but thought I would quickly let you all know what happened!

My midwife came to check me at 8:50pm, and I was 6cm, and things were happening fast, so we decided we would follow her to the hospital, and I would get in the bath there. We arrived at the delivery suite at 9:30pm, and I was having the urge to push. Waited ten mins for the bath to be ready, and had huge contractions, just got into the bath, and HAD to push. 4 pushes later, and she was born at 9:50pm!! So it was all over very quickly!!

Luckily I didn't tear or have any problems, and am feeling really good today (apart from being tired).

She (who is still un-named!!) is doing really well. She is feeding well, and sleeping lots... so it has been a good start!

Alex has not been at all bothered by having a new baby in the house, which is good. He has just continued playing around her. Even when she cries he is not worried. What a relief... but I wonder if it will continue!!

Anyway, I'm off to have a sleep, but will post some photos as soon as I upload them.

wow, congrats Calla; Porce and Rach! So much has happened since i was last on!

Carys is doing great, still feeds 3hrly day and night but i guess she needs the food! She is now over 8lb and starting to look like a chubby bubby!

Calla, you were so lucky - i spent wks in NNU with a mother and bub who were seriously affected by meconium poisoning - both of them nearly died! Her bubby had been floating in meconium for 2 days and it had stuffed her liver and kidneys - i hear she is doing pretty well now though (amazing what they can do these days!)

Yay Nicky - here's hoping for a bubby for you today, best of luck - not many left to pop in November now!!

Anyway must go, my gal is gonna start the milk call any minute!!

Hey everyone,

Yay....My baby has arrived!

Molly Rose was born at 0430hrs on Thursday morning.  My waters broke at 1915hrs on the Wednesday night (half an hour after I last posted saying how nothing was happening!)  All went really well.  Had no pain relief as it was all happening so fast.  In 2 hours I went from 3cm to 9cm.

It is great being a mum.  Molly is such a good girl.  Feeding and sleeping well.  We had our first outing to the mall today which I am sure that she enjoyed!

I willl catch up on what I have missed tomorrow.  But hope all is going well.

Ok... So I am definately in labour!! WOOHOO!! Strong contractions about 5 mins apart, lasting for up to a minute. (why did I want pain!!!) Have just spoken to my midwife and she will come and check me in half an hour, unless I need her before then!!

So excited. Hubby has gone to drop Alex off to my mums for the night. We don't want her getting too excited and telling everyone yet, so have told her its just incase anything happens!! he he

Ok... so about an hour ago I had a bit of a gush of something. Wasn't my waters breaking, so must have been a liquid show. Very much reminded me of what you were having the day you were in labour Porcelina. And now... boy the contractions are strong. (ok I know they will get much stronger than this still ) but they hurt now!!

So.... I don't want to get my hopes up (but ofcourse I have already), but I think something might really be happening now!!

Oh and the contractions are less than 10 min apart.

Thats great you have had no feeding problems Bel... very lucky!! I am worried about feeding, as I had such huge problems with Alex. But will give it a go and see what happens!! Hopefully you will catch up on some sleep soon, and start to feel better.

Well my contractions (or BH or whatever they bloomin are!!!!) have kicked into gear again. I am really feeling them in my back (which I think is a good sign, as BH are usually only in front). hey, we are doing well here, but I am finding the tiredness a bit hard to deal with. I get to about 6pm and totally crash - tears and all. But then seem to get it back together and manage until 10 (when the little one goes to bed)

Luke is doing so well, he is feeding great, I am the same as Porcelina, having had no latching problems, and only one small blister which has gone now. Once my milk came in (day 4) it all came together.

I am going to start a November mummies tread, so looking forward to you all joining me (think I will lurk in October too - they have have just been through this first few weeks...)

No I am still here!!

Well I thought things were really starting last night. Contractions got closer together and stronger. They were 10 mins apart and lasting for about 40 sec by 10pm. I went to bed, and managed to sleep on and off all nightt. Woke at 4am for an hour or so, and they were still 10 min apart. 7am, and still 10 min apart... and then NOTHING!! They stopped!! Have just started again in the last hour. I had a show this morning about 9am, so thats a good sign. Am getting so frustrated though....

So I have been walking and trying to keep active all morning. Atleast that helps the time go faster. Will have lunch now, and then maybe a little rest, and wait and see what happens this afternoon/evening.

And I got creative in pregnancy and made this mirror for her, I was so sure she'd be a Ruby I had the letters all painted ready to stick on

Oooh it is quiet on the nicolaann front!

My computer still won't let me log in, have to use DH's computer still! Maybe it's something to do with cookies since they did that site maintenance.

I am so glad the waters didn't go on my couch DJ!!! Car seat I can live with

Ruby had a mouth full of milk when I unlatched her just before so we should be in for a better time now sleeping-wise.

She woke up one time in the night, DH went to check her nappy and had to call me, she hadn't passed anything much since birth and all of a sudden there was meconium everywhere, poor DH! He said how can so much come out of something so little He called it exorcist poo hahah!!! And this morning she managed to pee all over the place and her stretch n grow

I totally recommend that Lansinoh ointment for nipples, they have saved mine from anything nasty, it's $12 odd for a tiny 7g tube but is worth it. Slap it on after each feed and it'll be a lifesaver. At the start I ended up with a small blister on the end of one nipple but that was about it other than getting the hang of latching on and ending up with a little hickey on each breast as she is a strong sucker and would slip up and give me a hickey before I could unlatch her!

It's so weird being on the "other side" of pregnancy. I hope everyone who wants to pop pops soon, it's so nice to be able to bend in two, I can dry myself now, reach to pick things up and can do my crafts again.

Hee hee Porcelina - have to laugh at your water's breaking story! Mine went in the birthing pool thankfully!

Ruby is a sweetie! Looks like she has her Dad's haircut?

Moving to Hamilton in the next few weeks will be quite freaky! I hope DH's contract includes movers to come in and pack everything for you!
