Well I called the doctors surgery, I ended up getting the nurse who usually does Haleigh injections and she explained to me what ahd happened.
She said the HIB was the one the lady made the mistake on and she had forgotten to mix the prefilled syringe with the powder and redraw it again or something so the MMR was all fine which was a huge phew for me.
They noticed when they found the extra powder mixture left over, and she said they have contacted the immunisation people and stuff about it to and apparently its actually a common mistak and they are trying to get the manufacturers to change the packaging of the immunisation to prevent it from happening.
She also offered to have HAleighs doctor to hold Haleigh for me to while they do the injection and she said he will double check for my peace of mind.

OMG sounds like a nightmare....can you question doctor again and make sure they get it right...esp if it was the MMR she didnt give properly...

It was Manuka I so dont set foot in Ropata although their nurses there are far nicer to Haleigh than this lady was.
I didnt think it was right, and I dont think there is more than one nurse there I think shes it now, there was one lady who was also a plunket nurse but I havent seen her in there for ages.
Man I am even more worried I hope she knows what one she mucked up cuase doubling up on the injection cant be good can it?
My poor baby.

No the sterile water comes in its own box. I would ask what injection she mucked up? just because at 15mths the only injection that is mixed with water is the MMR. The DTaP comes in a prefilled syringe that needs the HIB added to it. So by what your been told, sounds like she doesnt even know what injection she mucked up. he he he, was going to say the same. they usually come in the same box together if they have to be mixed don't they (has been a while, closest i get these days is doing vitamin k injections which is just a vial).. did she not think something wasn't quite right having a vial over? and yeah - what happened to the double checking?

As a registered vaccinator Im at a loss as to HOW THE HELL SHE MANAGED THAT!!!!!!!! Apart from drawing up the water from the vial named sterile water i might add, all vials and pre mixed injections are suppose to be checked with another person for name, batch number and expire date. Shes definitely giving us practice nurses a bad name. Is she from Ropata medical Centre by any chance??? The nurse should have had special training to become a vaccinator, and had certification to prove it. They dont have to do a course but most dr's sugerys send their staff to training, or expect them to show proof of competency when they are employed. The can be trained to do it "on the job" but they should observe others, and be watched while they are learning, until they are competant at all aspects of administrating the medication, including prepareing it correctly. A lot of injectable medications come with a seperate powder and solution that needs to be mixed together prior to administration.
(I should add that Im a nurse, so I dont sound like a druggy!)

It is so not on that this happened. I would ask to see prove of their competency before letting them do it.

That sounds really strange to me, I dont know about the injection process , but for her to not realise how to do it properly I personally dont think that is on...

But i guess what it comes down to is that you want the jab done so unfortunatley you will have to go through it again

I took Haleigh in for her 15month (she got them done at 16months) injections in January and I have now been informed yesterday that the lady who did the injections forgot to mix the one for the leg and injected water into Haleigh, but as far as I knwo the MMR one was fine.
I have to go back in to get it done again which is a pain in teh neck esp to hold an 18month old on my knee with a huge bump.
I was quite annoyed it took them nearly 2months to contact me about the problem, and I am stumped as to how this could have happened, she said she didn't realsie they had to mix the powder with the water or something so I'd ahte to think how many more children need to have to be rejabbed.

Is this an easy mistake? Casue we've never had any issues before with any other vaccinators and this lady certainly wasnt very good in the first place at injecting the MMR it took ehr 2 jabs to get the lot in. So Im a bit nervous to go back and get this leg jab done again incase we have any more issues.
