just to let you know that I had Holly Joan at 8pm on Sun 10 Feb (10 days overdue but came on her own accord) after a long latent phase at home but a relatively quick active labour - 7lb 8oz, all doing well and back home now - hope everything went well for you last few Jan girls !!

good morning
well just me and JD left huh - conggrats Janey look forward to seeing some pics !! well things seem to be kicking off a bit here too - well I think so anyway, sometimes hard to tell when it's your first baby !! have been having pains since 3am this morning every 10 mins for about 30 secs but they have now eased so not sure what is happening !! oh well at least it's something ay !!

Finally home from hospital today, I'm pretty shattered because I have only had about 10 hours of sleep since I went into labour on Friday night!! And have gone a little crazy today with hormones but feeling much better to be home now.

Hi girls seems its been quiet in the last couple of days. Internet issues have prevented posting earlier. Kylee Elise was born on Friday 1st February at 3.45pm. My MW broke my waters at 2.30 and 1 hour 15 later i was holding my wee girl. Very uneventful for labour. Kylee weighed 8.5 pound and was 53 cms. She feeds really well and sleeps brilliantly as well.   photos will be posted shortly. Thanks all.
Isabella is wonderful. A little monkey already I think - just like her mum.
It's my birthday today and she gave me a bit of the old run around at 3am. Fed her and was changing her pooey nappy when she peed and then pooed with no nappy on. Cleaned her and change mat, got a new nappy on which she then proceeded to poo in which then of course I had to change. She peed again!! with no nappy on. So I had a double nappy change and clothes too. Had to laugh though. Hehehe :)
Nice birthday present love...
Her condition CAH is manageable but is life long. So a big challenge for us but she is so beautiful, feeding and sleeping well which makes things easier. She will still look and be like any other little girl which is grace considering other conditions out there.Must run as she is doing the wah wah for food.

I haven't heard anything from her yet....I hope she's pushing out that baby as we speak!

seethebean - congrats on Isabella! She, Niamh and Hannah are birthday buddies! (And thank you for reminding me about Roger Federer. I knew there was something that happened on Saturday but I couldn't remember what it was - now I can write it in her book).
Sorry to hear about the mix up with the birthing suites! Also about her condition, but it sounds very manageable

Amber, I love fussing with Hannah's hair, too. She hasn't quite got enough for a mohawk, it's a bit too fine. It's getting fairer (her eyelashes are fair) so I think it'll either fall out or it'll get lighter.

I actually got a whole 9 hours sleep last night! Well, 3 lots of 3 hours...better than the night before

I should be posting in the 2008 Mummies thread now too....it's a hard habit to kick, coming in here for all these months.

Congratulations Seethebean!! Wow, Isabella's birth was eventful. That must've been annoying being told all the delivery suites were full, and then to have to wait for another c-section too. And I'm an epidural convert too now I'm glad to hear you are both fine and she is feeding and sleeping well. Will she need the medication permanently?

It's really nice when you can finally take them home. Hi all
Those funny feelings I was having last Friday week were it!!
Isabella Eve was born on Sat 26th Jan at 5.49pm by c section.
Started contractions around 1-2am Sat morning. Got up and started timing them while watching Roger Federer get beaten. Wow!! Baby was born on a historic day. LOL.
Anyway, called the midwife about 6am to let her know what was going on and to get some advice. Decided to hang out at home a bit longer. Contractions intensified quickly and a few calls to the midwife in quick succession got her attention. she was trying to put me off coming to hospital as all the delivery suites were in use and she was in the middle of a delivery. Nice. Got to hosp at about 9.30/10am ish and was fully dilated. Thought awesome - this isn't going to take too much longer. But....the little monkey had managed to turn herself and got stuck. After some pushing using entonox, we decided to try syntocinin and got an epidural. What bliss!!
After a few hours and a couple of checks from the obstetrician, went in for the c section but not after having to wait for another c section to be done. What a busy day at the hospital.
The theatre team were amazing and the c section experience was a pleasant one for me - I couldn't feel any pain and I didn't have to do the work. Ha! Hubby took some photos after being adamant he didn't want to look. Got some goodies - so glad he managed it.
The drama then unfolded as they couldn't tell if baby was boy or girl as the genitalia looked ambiguous. Was a little bit confused but not stressed.
Had to wait a couple of days to get a scan done to see if any girl bits inside. There was a uterus. After other tests and a transfer to Starship, baby has been diagnosed with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. A chronic condition that means her body doesn't naturally make a couple of hormones needed to survive. Will need very regular medicine and monitoring but will still be able to grow up to be a normal little girl.
Finally home on Friday. She is amazing - a good feeder and sleeper and of course very gorgeous. We are extremely proud of her.
Anyway, that is my long story actually cut quite short. Hope everyone is well. Haven't had a chance to catch up on the last week's posts so not sure who has had their babies yet.

Charly, Hannah is so cute. And you are looking really well too. I love her wide eyed pooping face. Olivia's pooping face is bright red and scrunched up. I am having tonnes of fun with her hair. I'm constantly fussing over it, tucking it behind her ears and flattening out the bits sticking up It goes really wild when we wash it and we have to brush it straight away or it stays like that.

Janey, I hope things are underway for you now. I had 3 days of build up contractions (on and off) before they induced me and that was frustrating enough. I think you are amazing going through today on your own .... I wanted DH as soon as my contractions started ... I only waited till they were five minutes apart as I was in the hospital and they had sent him home a couple of hours earlier ...

Still getting contractions every 7-10 mins apart, but they are getting much more sore now... so I'm over the "getting used to it" now lilfatty, and just want things to hurry up! Lol.

DH is still not home he just txt and said whenever I say the word he will be home from work, but I know they are really busy and even though I'm getting grumpy with the soreness and would like some company, I feel bad making him come home when the contractions are still no closer together than most of the day I hope he finishes soon or that my contractions start coming closer together so I can make him come home

Gosh hope things are progressing for you Janey ... you must be getting pretty excited.  My contractions actually sped up really quickly ... so I didnt have that nice "getting used to it" period that you sound like you are having ...

Charly ... you look lovely in that pic ... mummyhood is agreeing with you ... and yes I love playing with Isabelles hair .... I tend to stroke her head when settling her for bed....DH likes to make mohawks with it!

Gosh not long to go now and we will all be in the January 2008 Mummies board .... I must say that will be nice, Im getting confuddled with switching between topics (I blame lack of an eight hour stretch of sleep)

Lol Charly. It's their busiest weekend at work for like the whole of Feb! He doesn't usually even work weekends, so he has no idea what time he will finish either, guess it depends how busy they are with all the catering! But he is allowed to come home whenever I request it so it's all good... if I need him I will txt or ring, it only takes him about ten mins to get home.

I would hate to be preggy in Aucks, Sheza! At least here when it's hot, it's not that humid. Most of the time. Yeah apparently playing with your nipples is actually based on fact... but you have to do it for over an hour and pretty hard, lol, screw that!! I think my nipples will be getting enough rough treatment in the near future, thank you very much

Contractions are getting stronger and every 7-10 mins apart at this stage. Hasn't gone away yet... I keep thinking it's going to trick me, because of all the false labour, but they are so regular and building in intensity so I think it's for real! I've been pottering around the house, I washed the baby toys that my friend handed down to me from her kids (I cleaned them in persil sensitive and hot water and then rinsed them in the Canasten laundry rinse stuff... I hope that kills the germs!)

Everyone keeps saying "rest" but it's hard to think about getting any sleep when you are in pain every 7-10 mins, lol.

Aww thanks hehe, Im doing ok, im over heating today though its SO hot in Auckland today(well where I am it is anyways! must be about 30 outside here). I actually cant wait for winter when I can snuggle up and get warm instead of roasting like chicken in an oven lol.

Yep Im very excited about getting some baby pics! DF's mum will take some real cute ones for us and she will do some preggy ones soon aswell

Yup I'm still here... just been reading a book in the bath, hoping that having a bath would somehow speed things up, haha. But contractions are still regular every ten mins.

I'm just happy they are still regular for once, so the chances of this being false labour are small!! Yay! I don't mind if things take a while to speed up, since it's meant to prepare your body better (less chances of tearing etc). Ten minutes is quite a long interval so it's not so bad only getting pain every ten mins. I wonder if I would be saying that if I hadn't had those horrible 3-4 hour false labour contractions!? Lol.

My mum keeps texting me and telling me to walk up stairs and play with my nipples and stuff. Hannah and I just had a nap. She fed for an hour and now she's sleeping in her Grampa's arms. So cute!

How're you feeling Jane? I'm so excited for you!
My contractions really kicked in about 6am and were one on top of the other by 1pm (Hannah born 34 mins later), so it could only be a matter of hours.
But definitely rest and eat as much as you can. You'll need the energy.
I hope things aren't too prolonged for you.

I hope this is it Janey. Really make sure you have a good breakfast/lunch because once you're fully into labour, you throw everything up (drinks included) a lovely fact I wasn't aware of until my midwife warned me not to drink my energy drink or juice and I did and promptly vomitted it back up. Get your energy up while you can.

Well, I think I am finally in early labour! Yay! I had contractions all night again (no different to the other nights), every 10 mins to half an hour. Then this morning I had my show (I think it was that anyway... pinky mucus looking thing!? sorry if TMI)... and the contractions didn't go away like normal, but have settled into a pattern, every 10 mins like clockwork for about a minute and a half long. So hopefully that means something will be happening in the next few days for me!!

DH has gone off to work, but he's keeping his mobile on him in case the contractions start coming closer together

I txt my midwife to let her know that my contractions are regular and about the show, and she said to make sure I eat a really good breakfast etc. and to take it easy and rest. She's going to txt later in the morning and check on me, and maybe come for a visit to see how things are going. Yay! I hope this is the real thing... it's regular, not like everything else I've had, so I'm hoping this is not another false alarm!!!!

Congrats Serenity she is so cute!!!

Come on yet to arrive babies time to get out and see the world!!!!

Joshua had his midwife visit today as well and he is now 10lb so quite a bit heavier than the 7lb 4oz he was at birth. I cant believe he is a month old today!!!

Yesterday got to 33 here and Joshua would not settle at all. It was a nightmare but then he slept for about 5 hours last night so we think keeping him up more during the day will be a good thing and the midwife agreed it would be good for him so we will start trying that and hopefully we will be able to catch up on some sleep eventually haha.

Yes lil miss isabelle did good and put on 300 grams since she was weighed at discharge ... which is 140 grams up on her birthweight ... which is awesome!

Means Mummies milk is actually working

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm still here Just had heaps of pain again last night, every ten mins again... then slowed back down to every half hour to three quarters of an hour. Not painful anymore, so went back to bed this morning and had a sleep until about 15 mins ago!! Same old story. This false labour thing is so MEAN but I'm feeling pretty good today actually, instead of fully pissed off, for once

Can't believe how bored and lonely I've been stuck at home all this time, and now that I can't be bothered seeing people, every single Tom, Dick and Harry wants to come and visit the overdue girl. Maybe they think they will get to see my waters break or something!? But I have just been ignoring all the text invitations because I can't even be bothered replying... is that mean? I love my friends and I know they mean well... I'm just too tired!!

How are you other girls, JD, mum2matte, flair?

Hope notmuchfatty puts on some weight for u, lilfatty!

Oh yep sounds like the same hammock I have, it coems with a door thingy too, and also screws into the ceiling(sp?) so we will have a hook in the bedroom over the cot(Im going to have the hammock over the cot until he is sleeping in the cot then we will move it) and then one in the lounge so that I can have him in there with me, and alos I'll put a hook down in the house(we live in a little flat on the side of mum and dads ) for when they are looking after him.
It looks so comfy, I showed my DF that pic of Isabelle in it and he was awww so cute!! hehe

Sheza ... our hammock is in the lounge and we put her in it during the day so we can constanly see her (its a new parent thing) ... she seems to love it and because it bounces on the spring its easy to settle her in it.

It also comes with a door attachment so we can take it to the grandparents house or on holiday and settle her somewhere she feels safe

We use a cariboo ez rocker at night in our room, mainly because it has a firm base so we can use the baby monitor with the sensor for peace of mind (also a new parent thing lol).

lilfatty- How do you find your baby hammock? My nana got me one from egg yesterday and it looks divine!! I cnat wait to use it hehe, how does Isabelle like it? Morning ladies ... significant others ... and new adorable additions!

WOW I understand why they say nap when the baby does .... mummyhood can be tiring and Issy only wakes twice during the night to feed!  Ive taken to having an afternoon nap when she goes down ... its sheer bliss.

The mw is coming to visit today, I think she said she was going to weigh her, so hopefully she is getting to be more of a minifatty and at the moment she is a notmuchfatty.

Oh and DH had his first poop explosion yesterday ... he said it was lucky I wasnt in the room as I would have popped all my stiches laughing my head off!  He was just thankful as it was a middle of the night change so he was naked ... and he could hose himself off in the shower

Nah, just learnt on the job Well I did a childcare course when I was in highschool (one of my subjects) and First Aid courses and stuff, but it was really just a part time job a couple of days a week to get me through Teachers College.

Oh Freesia that must have been sooo hard for you not being able to see Olivia for a whole night

I had a very tired night last night, just so fed up and HOT! 31 degrees in our room... I was just thinking, you poor pregnant women . But I went to bed at 8pm, and had a nap this afternoon and feel a lot better. About to head to bed after my wee ohbaby catchup.

Bobbie, that sucks Rowan was so unsettled but I'm glad it only lasted a day

Lilfatty and Freesia I so know what you mean about confidence going sometimes... I'm sure you are fab mums cos you love your little ones so much. And really, we're all stumbling through it. I mean, I thought I knew a fair bit.. I nannied regularly for 3 years, for a family with 3 kids (the youngest was newborn when I started). But I tell you, it's a whole different ball game when it's your baby and you have to decide stuff! Like what to dress him in and to decide - is he hungry, or tired, or has he got wind? It can all be very confusing at times, though it sounds so simple!!

Harry had another checkup today, the little guy has put on 430g in a week! So he's up to 4530g now. We also asked if she could measure his length, and he's 61cm.. was 56cm when born. He already grew out of some of his clothes (lengthwise) about a week ago . He has so many hormone spots though! They look like little pimples (the type that if they were on you, you'd pop them). Pleased I am not the only one that feels like they have hot pokers in their nipples! I have had my share of meltdowns and am sure that it gets better. My MW reminded me that not only am I learning but so is Niamh so I can't expect everything to go smoothly all the time.

Nursie yup it was me - that makes more sense - thought it would be weird for them to be operating in the dark


Freesia and lilfatty it does get a LOT better so don't worry you guys are great mummies.

Shots were yesterday and my little girl was NOT happy. She was either sleeping eating or screaming yesterday and could not be put down. She would only sleep on me and nappy changes were a whole new challenge. Much better today though thank goodness!

Hey girls still in one piece contractions seem to have eased off despite lots of walking etc. Looks like Kylee is waiting to join the Feb thread. Emz, i thought CHCH womans was really horrible and crap too. I had Kylah at 10.52pm and she stopped breathing 10 mins later, went white and limp and the MW couldnt get the oxygen tap undone.. it was scary and she was hammering the emergancy button and everyone came in like 10 people, noone said anything to me about what was happening, nothing. I was left sitting in the birthing pool.

I was kicked out at 10am the next morning. Noone said boo to me all night. Never even held a baby before let alone fed on and i didnt know a thing! Noone showed me anything. I had nowhere to transfer too as everywhere was full apart from rangiora and i couldnt go there it was so far away.

I hope none of you have to go through that and i really think something needs to be done about the hospital, its shocking!

Had sore contractions again last night but nothing again today!! So just caught up on some sleep.

Mmmm flair... hot cross buns... now I really REALLY want some! Have to get DH to pick some up on the way home from work

So it's me, flair and JD left? Looks like we will be having Feb babies unless we suddenly go into quick labour!!

I've tried "special cuddles" (although getting less and less enthused about this option now, lol) and walks, and eating lots of pineapple, and I'm doing the EPO thing... come on baby!! I haven't tried curry yet, I have enough discomfort going to the toilet already, lol.

Amber that would have been awful to not see your baby for so long! I used EPO for the last 3 days leading up to Jack's birth - 3 orally, 4 up the old woohoo (pierced with a pin to get the oil out). Just remember to use a pad as it does leak out! I think as far as hospitals go with the shortage of midwives they should use people like Karitane Nurses and Nannies to help out occasionally

Its my due date today according to my LMP and thats what my midwife is going with. I might have to find something to distract me today.

Charly ... I had a few midwives that shoved isabelle on and wandered off ... and im left thinking....ok so how the hell is that going to help teach me how to feed my baby!

Luckily on my last full day in hospital I had an older midwife on duty who taught me a couple of little tricks ... and that seems to be working (although when I got home and I was in different surroundings ... eg everything was at a different level, the pillows were squishier etc ... I found it a little difficult)

Good thinking flair ...  carb loading will help get through labour

Freesia ... gosh i feel for you .... now that im a mummy i can understand how heartbreaking it must have been for you, i thought it was bad that i didnt get to "see" isabelle until i got into the recovery room.

Oh and you are right  ... nights are the worst, thats when all my doubts creep in, everything seems so much more doable in the daylight!
