I think it's the same with most - consultations are covered, but not treatment. Bollocks. I wonder if that would be the same for us? I might look into that. I didn't even think of it as I just assumed it came under fertility treatment, which my insurers don't cover. DH and I have decided to start looking at going private.

I checked with our medical insurance company and they have said that the initial consultation will be covered as it is a consultation, not a treatment.

Hi Emile,

I talked to my gyno about it and he said that because I've had him for my conditions before that he'll put it all under that, so I get covered which is great for me. Bummer for you though

Kye, I don't think many places cover 'infertility' but most specialists will just write it under 'consultation' etc without stating infertility, from my little knowledge on the subject and after talking to my gyno about it. iv just started ivf- publicly funded this round

my tests didnt cost but scans did some of the time

i guess it depends which plans we have aye

Im with southern cross does anyone know if they cover infertility? Hey noodle, thanks for that. I had a big talk with my mum last night (didn't want to, but she was really understanding) as she still has my insurance info cos I'm under her work discount cover thing. She said go to the first appt with the specialist and then ring UniMed if need be. Emz i'm with unimed aswell, They covered the specialist appointments for me and also the ultrasounds i had and also for the pescriptions of clomid (they have only been $15.00 each time i have had them) but i think it depends on what cover you have and i think it only covers a certain amount per year for certain things! I was under the private specialist for 3 months (2 rounds of clomid) that was with a ultrasound for each round of clomid and they reimbursed the whole lot, not sure how much more they would have paid for tho! sorry i'm probably not much help! Can you ring them to find out? I hope they pay it for you! We are going to have to start fertility treatment (I know, bugger) as I am apparently infertile due to not ovulating at all, EVER.

Does anyone know if the gyno's etc are covered by Medical Insurance? I'm with UniMed, it says it doesn't cover treatment for infertility, but I do have specialist cover I guess the infertility thing cancels the specialist cover? The sad thing is, we can't TTC on the drugs etc if we can't afford to go to the specialist...
