yup! i had the holiday scam call!! saying i had won a trip to disneyland all payed for but i had to pay some kind of fee so they wanted my CC number - i told the guy that i didnt have a CC and he hung up on me!!!

Another thing my brother forwarded me an email on (don't know how true it is though) was where someone calls from supposedly your credit card company saying that your card has been used fraudulently & they want to verify the transaction. They tell you the amount that was charged & then read you your credit card number. That's right - they already have your card number! The thing is they then ask you to verify that you've still got the card in your possesion & to do this get you to read out the security number on the back of the card. They then say that they'll credit the fraudlent transaction back to your account. What they are really after is that security code which means they can go shopping on the web as a lot of sites ask for that code. Dodgy!!! My gf said she got the same call two weeks ago (lives nearby so i wonder if they are focusing on Gisborne at present) and said she didn't have a cc - weren't so interested funnily enough! We haven't had the calls, but DH gets the emails from Togo (it was on Fair Go a few weeks ago), that a relative has died and was a millionaire. As our surname is so unusual (as in we are related and know if someone says a name of someone with the surname you can put it to one of FIL's brothers) we know everyone and the person they are stating is not a family member. I've had 2 of those phone calls and yes they are very convincing!!

There was a scam like that mentioned on Campbell Live - a lady was phoned up and told that she had won an all expenses paid trip to Disneyland for her and her family..they stringed it along to say that they needed her credit card number for a 'transference fee'. They phoned her on her mobile phone, knew her name and were really convincing. The caller display showed a number from China that was disconnected when they tried to ring back later. i've heard of these phone calls just recently liz. i think there was a write up in a small local newspaper about a lady that did get scammed!

Had the weirdest phone call and don't know if this a scam or not...but....

Guy rings up and says he is from discount premium holidays and congratulatinos I've won seven nights accomodation in one of their hotels - situated in Australi and New Zealand. He talked about them for a while and then asked if I had a credit card. i said yes. Talked a bit more about the hotel and then asked if I could verify my details by reading the number on my credit card - "it should start with 4". I said " there is no weay in hell I am reading you my credit card number" and he started to get really abusive saying that his company had been around for so many years blah blah blah - so I evntually hung up - then rung the police and my credit card company!
