Author: daikini
Subject: 703
Posted: 06 June 2005 at 10:49am

If you don't mind me asking, where in NZ do you girls live? The reason I'm asking is because in Hamilton, at Waikato Hospital, there's a place called MotherCraft. They are a sleeping and feeding help specialist type of place. You stay in a private room with your baby/ies and they help you establish appropriate routines. You are there for a week, Monday afternoon until Friday morning. Oh, and it's free.

I went there with Kiya when she was 6 months old. I was living with my parents and my (then) primary-school aged siblings. There were 6 of us in a three bedrooom house, and I couldn't let Kiya make much noise at night. My Mum was working full-time, my Dad was a full-time student, and my sister was 10 and my brother was 8, so everyone needed their sleep more than I did. Plunket refered me to MotherCraft so I could get Kiya used to sleeping in her own bed again.

It was great. They (in their own words) be the "bad guys" and keep putting baby down while you relax knowing you are getting the help you need! While I was there, there was a Tauranga mum who had just had twins, then transferred over to MotherCraft. They were helping her establish sleep/feed routines she would be able to impliment when she got home. They helped her to offset the twins by 20 minutes: so one would wake, be fed and changed and sorted out, then the other would wake and so on.

Maybe there's something similar where you are, or you can go to MotherCraft.

On my left side was baby 'A' who is now head down, and on my right side was baby 'B' who is still breech. B is now the presenting baby and unless it turns it looks as if I am destined for a ceaser. Oh well I am not too worried about it as it means a Tubal ligation WOO HOOOOO!!

The babies do have a bit of a difference in weight tho, my left baby is weighing in at around 3lb 11 1/2 oz and my right baby is about 4 lb 8 1/2 oz. Still they are healthy and doing well so I guess the size difference comes down to them being genetically different.
One of my friends went in last Thursday to have her twins, one was 4lb and the other was 6lb, born at 36 weeks. Both of them had to go into Neonatal (precautionery) and yeah both of them have been placed in the isolated area. They are basically saying that any new babies from when they released the news are placed in their own seperate area. Sounds fairly safe to me, but its not like you can see the bugs flying around, guess we just have to trust them, aye?

I had my C section while I was awake. I was too busy talking to my partner to notice any noises. I did notice a pulling sensation but it didn't hurt.
Ok I know people are going to think I am a freak for saying this but I wanted them to pull the curtain down so I could see him when he came out.
I'm not squeamish at all but my partner was like "how weird would it be to see your tummy all open like that?????"
I have to say I found the recovery time pretty easy. I had Alex at 11.29pm on Labour Day & then had a good five hours sleep before getting up & having a shower. Still very sore but any way of giving birth has to have some kind of pain? And so worth it aye!

Hoping for natural next time around though! :)

We were told at the first scan at 7 weeks and that was scary enough!
I am really starting to feel the size difference of having twins, I feel much bigger now than I did with my singleton preggys and I am not really that big belly wise-so I have been told. I think it has something to do with the fact that I have had gall stones and have had to be really strict with what I eat. It will all help after babies are born.
My concern now is the Super bug going around Wellington hospitals baby unit. I am to have my babes in wellington and I dont really want them exposed to that!

It is better for you nd babies if you are awake - as general anaesthetics carry more risks.. just think, at least this way you will be able to see babies straight away without having to wake up and feel all groggy and sick. hope things work out for you no matter what you choose.
