I'm excited to be going back but sad to be leaving too. My hubby's family have just offered us their house. they used to live just out of gisborne and still have the house that they rent out. they have offered to virtually give it to us...so we can live rent free/mortgage freee. i'm pretty happy. it does mean we'll live with them when they retire but we've always gotten on so well, it should be okay!!! So in April, we'll do another move from Palmy to HGisborne

I stay home with the girls, Paris usually still goes to daycare at least 3 mornings a week during my study leave... simply because since we have no yard, she goes stir crazy if she doesn't have some outlet for all her energy... at least going to daycare for a couple of hours she comes home, has a nap and is pretty alright.... last time she was sick and had to stay home and inside for a week... she was a complete terror.. had me in tears a few times out of sheer frustration.

Yep lizzle, i feel the same way. I am dreading my placement... sooo much, i mean it will be great working in maternity, how kool is that?! but Paris will still go to daycare at 8 in the morning so i can sleep while ayja sleeps. and i won't be home at night so i won't really see her, i'll get home when she's in bed and she'll leave in the morning after only seeing me for an hour at most. It's gonna be so heart wrenching... for 2 weeks. my poor girls.

had a chat with daycare today and it was all good again so here's hoping it stick this time. now just have to try bottle over the weekend for when i'm on placement sincei have to drop her off at daycare at 1, and mike will bring her up for me to feed on my dinner break at 6.30pm, she'll need maybe 1 - 2 feeds by bottle in bewtween those times... the logistics are nuts!

    Author: mum2paris
Subject: 718
Posted: 14 September 2005 at 3:53pm

Just reading back on the last page, i saw your post about weight etc Ana. i wouldn't worry too much about it, it should settle down. Ayja was a teeny weeny thing, and she was really greedy too. she never lost any weight. in her first week she gained 7 oz, then 6oz the week after, then a whole pound the week after that, and 13 oz the week after that! then it all just settled down and she didn't gain much at all for a few weeks, and we got worried. lolol, now it's back to being steady gains.

Be careful with the dummy as they can sometimes interfere with breastfeeding, but from what you have said it doesn't sound like that's a worry . Just try using it when you stick him to bed and like Maria said, if he wakes up sooner than expected give it to him. This way, the gap between feeds will be longer and he can have a larger feed when he wakes which means he'll be fuller, and therefore should sleep longer again... it's kinda a viscious circle really.

Ayja is still really mucked up with her feeding at daycare, they have started mucking her around a bit, so will have to remind them tomorrow. poor girl, was supposed to go back to bed after i fed her yesterday at 12.30, cos she'd been up an hour already and that's how long she stays up for. nup, they put her to bed at 2.30... hello! 3 hours?! I got over there to feed her at 3 and she was asleep so she had to wait till she woke up finally at quarter to 5.. poor girl, i wasn't going to wake her up when she had only just gone to sleep. argh. I mean i know for some people, having a kid that comes home from daycare, and is so exhausted she goes to bed at 6.30 and sleeps 12 hrs straight might be nice, but not for me... i get no time with her where she isn't cranky and tired. she doesn't get proper feed times or she misses feeds altogether if they don't keep to her routine. and she can't be getting much out of being awake that long... she won't be able to learn and play if she's dog-tired 99% of the time. definately will have to have a word i think.

today though, i have the day off and she has had 2 big 3hr sleeps and nice big feeds and she's happy as. sometimes i just wish i could be a SAHM.

So from then on she was never fed less than 3 hours apart. Jayde a whole different story and she doesnt want food. So had to try and feed her 2 hourly, whew now gone to 4 hourly feeds. So i guess what im saying is that they are all different and you will work something out that suits you both. If hes happy and your happy feeding him 2 hourly then thats great. Maya was on hourly feeds for a couple of months when she was sick and I used to hate going to bed coz I knew I wouldn't be there long!

Becs, like Nikki I found Maya didn't really get hungry in between feeds. She was such an easy baby tho, makes me terrified to have another one coz there's no way I'll end up with 2 placid, easy to settle babies! She pretty much slept in between feeds, woke, fed, played for about 1/2 hour on the floor or in the bouncinette, the went back to bed and slept until the next feed time. I can't remember her ever screaming about being hurngry in between times, but I'm sure if she did I probably just fed her.

Drove me nuts. She was also sleeping for 4 hour stretches and the feeds and sleeps were really unpredictable.

Midwife suggested feeding her three hourly and it worked perfectly! If she was noticeably hungry before three hours then I just fed her. But usually 3 hours was the perfect time. Especially helped me because I knew that if she was crying then generally it was because of wind (or something else) and not because she was hungry.

I thought this would teach her to feed every 3 hours permanently so I was a bit anti, but Plunket said in fact it tops them up enough that they don't need feeding so often during the night. I woke her up to feed during the day if she was asleep, then woke her at 10.30pm for her last feed, then put her down and fed her when she woke during the night. Night feeds got further and further apart and by 7 weeks she was sleeping thru.

My midwife did tell me tho that babies less than 6 weeks old do need nighttime feeds as their tummies are so small, so to always wake her for a night feed until she was 6 weeks.

As long as they have plenty of wet nappies, and are gaining weight they are usually fine, and in the early weeks they get weighed every few days, then every week, so it's pretty easy to keep track of progress.

Nutritionally that is. Especially with night-time sleep and feeds.. I freaked out. and today, she has had big feeds and slept for 3 and half hours at a stretch before i wake her.. i know i shouldn't but her weight gain in the last few weeks hasn't been too flash so i do. she feeds and falls back asleep, looks like she's drunk. seems happy enough, and for the little while she's awake she's giggly and smiley. a little whingy but only when i pick her up cos she has nappy rash (too many toffee pops on my part) hopefully tomorrow things will even out and she'll be back to normal.

i hate all the worrying. even worse is the fact that both my kiddies are such deep sleepers. they go bright white and freezing cold when they are in a deep sleep and breath so silently and softly that you can't see or feel it. it's not nice to go and check them at all. half the time you end up with your heart in your throat.

But my point,(i'm getting there eventually, at work we teach kids and the kids don't have one specific teacher for private classes but they do for group classes. With the private classes we've had no problems, but with the group classes, it make it difficult for the teachers to take holidays as the kids really don't adjust well to having a new teacher, after being used to the old one. the private kids on the other hand are usually fine with a variety of teachers. Not really the same due to a huge difference in repsonsibility and time, however, maybe that is why the theory of no specified caregiver (?)

I think it's called 'Urban' and I love it. So easy to steer with the front swivel wheel and easy to collapse.
It came with the newborn head support thingy, wind-break cover and boot cover. From memory, I think it was about $350. The next model up was about $420?? and you can attach the toddler seat to it.
Looking back now, we should've got that one as we're going to try for #2 soon, but was outta the price range at the time.

Its like the Picopico highchair which is on Winkalotts. I will get more accessories later on though through winkalotts, I got all my breast pump/steriliser etc through them and saved myself mega bucks, its great. And the free postage just makes it all that much better....:-) But yeah the lack of 3D virtual testing is a bit of a bummer....LOL
